Job description

The Grant Writer/Editor will work closely with the WSA Coordinator to collect and analyze data on the performance of program activities as well as producing written reports and proposals outlining activities in the Watershed Stewards Academy the WSA Advisory Committee and third-party funders. In addition, the Grant Writer/Editor, in collaboration with the Principal Agent Associate, is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures for tracking deadlines and organizing programmatic information. The location is 3300 N. Ridge Road, Suite #240, Ellicott City, MD 21043 and telecommuting may be permitted.

Responsibilities:

The Grant Writer/Editor is a member of the Watershed Stewards Academy which is responsible for raising significant funds on an annual basis for the organization through securing five and six figure gifts and grants from individuals and institutional foundations. This volunteer position may have ebbs and flows in schedules. WSA will work with the Grant Writer/Editor to optimize schedules. At a minimum, applicants should commit to six hours per week for three months.

Specifically, the Grant Writer/Editor will be responsible for the following:  Develop accurate and well-written Letters of Inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports in a timely manner for third-party funders and the WSA Advisory Committee;  Develop a comprehensive understanding of WSA programs;  With WSA Coordinator, manage calendar of grant and reporting deadlines;  Coordinate with stakeholders to assemble budgets, graphics, program outcomes, etc. in an organized and timely manner;  In collaboration with the WSA Program Coordinator, ensure that the organization meets all grant deliverables;  Maintain up-to-date records of organizational information, including history, vision, theory of change, programs and funders.  Assist with additional copy-writing and editing as necessary.  Assist with other projects as assigned. Qualifications:

Successful applicants will be resourceful and independent, and comfortable working within the framework of an integrated development program and team-oriented environment.

Ideal applicants will have the skill to gather, analyze, present and organize key programmatic information, and knowledge of institutional foundation best practices and philanthropic trends. They will also display strategic thinking, and an ability to build systems.

Other preferred skills and abilities include:  Grant or programmatic writing experience for a charitable organization.  Attention to detail and ability to organize and track complex information.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Strong time management skills and ability to work on several projects at once.  Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data from a wide variety of sources, and present the resulting information in a clear summary.

Background:

The Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) is a non-profit training program that empowers residents to improve the water quality of local streams. By sharing resources, forming partnerships, and coordinating efforts, WSA works with a Consortium of Support Professionals, Master Watershed Stewards and their communities to reduce pollutants, infiltrate storm water and restore natural systems. WSA is an affiliate of the University of Maryland Extension in Howard County
