Gsac Intra-Conference Transfer Policy and Procedure

GSAC INTRA-CONFERENCE TRANSFER POLICY AND PROCEDURE A student athlete included on a GSAC school's financial aid or eligibility report must sit out for one calendar year if transferring to another GSAC school regardless of whether they will be receiving athletic financial aid.

This process must be followed if a student athlete desires an appeal to be eligible immediately when transferring from one GSAC institution to another GSAC institution: Statements from the student athlete and both Athletic Directors must be in writing outlining the facts of the case and the reason for transferring. For an appeal to be considered it requires the following process to be met: 1. The request for an appeal hearing by the GSAC Executive Committee must be initiated by the student and the school that the student desires to transfer to. 2. The GSAC Executive Committee will decide if the student can transfer and be eligible immediately with the student receiving no athletic aid. 3. The athletic directors of both schools involved and the GSAC Executive Committee must agree to athletic aid being given. 4. The amount of athletic aid the student athlete receives at the new institution may not under any circumstances be a higher percentage of athletic aid (aid verses costs) in the year the student transfers than the student received the prior year at the previous institution. 5. Hearings will only be held during regularly scheduled meetings in January, April (or May) & August. The hearing is held to review all of the materials and circumstances involved. 6. A majority of all GSAC Executive committee must approve the appeal.

Use the Intra Conference Transfer Form for verifying the percentage of scholarship that an intra-conference transfer may receive at the new institution if approved.  The institution that the student athlete is transferring to initiates the intra-conference transfer form and gets the proper signatures from both institutions.  When the form is completed a copy shall be forwarded to the Commissioner by the school the student athlete is transferring to and a copy is attached to the scholarship reporting form for the year that the student athlete is sitting out.

Example: Student-athlete receives athletic scholarship amounting to 50% of costs at School A in school year 2006-07. If that student transfers to School B for school year 2007-08 that student-athlete cannot receive athletic scholarship in excess of 50% of costs at School B. THIS INCLUDES ONLY ATHLETIC AID BECAUSE THE CONFERENCE CAN NOT DICTATE THE AMOUNT OF OTHER INSTITUTIONAL AID A STUDENT ATHLETE CAN RECEIVE.
