The Crossroads Story
Crossroads Care is Britain’s leading provider of support for carers and the people they care for. We work with over 35,000 individuals and their families, helping carers to make a life of their own outside caring. We provide the special quality of care that gives them the peace of mind to let someone else step into their shoes.
There are some 6 million people who care fore others. Many of these reach a turning point, a crossroads, at which they feel they need help …..where they may simply need a break or more regular support. This is what Crossroads Care does.
We are a national network of local charities employing over 5,000 trained professionals. We provide flexible services to people of all ages and with a range of disabilities and health conditions.
As a charity we care for people not for profit. No-one cares more than Crossroads Care, not just in the scale of what we do or the 35 years experience that we have, but in the way we define care. Crossroads Carer Support Staff are not here today and gone tomorrow. They love their work, and their training and long experience means they understand what carers and those they care for need and feel.
They know the simple things that really matter, they do the hard jobs with a smile and they take pleasure in fitting into family life.
It’s no surprise then that Crossroads staff build long and trusted relationships and that more carers and people with care needs turn to Crossroads care than any other social care provider.
The social care system is changing, in a way that will put more control and choice in the hands of people with care needs. But it will mean a period of complexity and confusion. No-one is better qualified than Crossroads care to guide people through new choices and processes to a better quality of life.
Crossroads Care……the people carers turn to Our Mission Statement
To promote, offer, support and deliver high quality services for carers and people with care needs Our Vision
That all carers have time to be themselves
CROSSROADS Purpose and Philosophy
The whole purpose of a Crossroads scheme is to provide practical and emotional support to carers responsible for the care of children, adults or older people at home, who have a physical/sensory disability, learning disability, mental health problem or who are chronically ill.
A carer may be a friend, neighbour or relative who is providing support to someone else, either within the same household or living elsewhere, who would otherwise not be able to manage without that help.
A carer’s life is often restricted by the need to be on call 24 hours a day because the person they look after cannot be safely left alone for long periods. Carers are often under a great deal of physical and emotional strain through the demanding work of caring for someone heavily dependent upon them. They might be trying to hold down a paid job as well, and have other family commitments.
Crossroads Care is individually tailored to meet the needs of each family and aims to be as flexible as possible and adaptable around their needs, rather than families having to fit their needs around the availability of the service. Individual care plans are agreed between Crossroads, the carer and the person with care needs. People are able to decide for themselves what help and support they need.
By providing this valuable type of respite service in the home, Crossroads enables carers to continue caring for as long as they wish or are able to do so. Our sensitive and flexible approach is designed to help carers and disabled people feel comfortable and in control of the care that they receive. It is also designed to give disabled people the opportunity of choosing to stay in their own home rather than living in an institution or hospital.
Care and support is offered to carers of all age groups and disabilities. This service can work closely with, and alongside existing health, social services and other voluntary organisation provision, thereby providing an additional element in a total care package for the individual family. Background Information
Crossroads Care Sir Gâr is a member of the Crossroads Association, the national body whose role is to establish and support the network of schemes, by promoting their work, influencing national policy, establishing new schemes and by providing guidance, practical support and training. The Association also develops policies, procedures and standards that ensure the consistent quality of service delivery.
The Crossroads Association has its headquarters at 10 Regent Place, Rugby. It is a National Registered Charity and is a Company Limited by Guarantee. Crossroads has thirty years expertise in care provision. With a wealth of skills, research and expertise of different types of care service the Association supports and guides a network of affiliated Crossroads schemes throughout England and Wales. The Crossroads Wales office is based at 33 – 35 Cathedral Road, Cardiff.
Each Crossroads scheme has an identity of its own. Our Scheme is run by a local, voluntary, multi-disciplinary Board of Trustees, made up of local people who have been carers in the past, or are currently Carers or have an interest in our organisation. This helps to ensure that each scheme is designed to meet the needs of particular carers or geographical areas as required.
Each affiliated Crossroads scheme nominates one member of their Board of Trustees to become members of the Crossroads Association. They may vote at the National AGM on policies to determine the future direction of Crossroads and helps to ensure true consultation with schemes.
