Both series may involve the use of caricature both in lyrics and in cover imagery. All were published between 1851 and 1974, with the majority between 1880 and 1940. Special Collections and University Archives materials are stored offsite and must be paged 36 hours in advance. Immediate Source of Acquisition This collection was purchased by Stanford University, Special Collections in 2004. Scope and Contents The collection is arranged in two series: Series I. Sheet music written by African Americans and Series II. Sheet music with African American themes. Within each series, the material is arranged alphabetically by song title. Conditions Governing Access Open for research.
