Red Hot Chili Peppers RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Dunja Kovačević Vlll-1 WHO ARE RED HOT CHILIE PEPPERS? Red Hot Chilie Peppers ar an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The band is very well known for their funk/punk style. Their music contains genres like funk, punk, alternative rock and psychedelic rock. The band contains of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael Flea Balzary, drummer Chad Smith, and guitaristJohn Fruiscante. Red Hot Chilie Peppers are one of the best-selling bands of all time with over 80 million records sold worldwide.Their one of the most well known 90’s band, and while performing they mostly wore shorts and nothing else or they wore colorful clothes and Kiedis and Flea changed their hair through out their career a few times. DISCOVERY OF THE BAND AND THEIR FIRST ALBUM The bend was formed in Los Angeles in 1983. by Kiedis,Flea and their, back then, guitarist Hillel Slovak and their, back then, drummer Jack Irons. The band first started by playing many lockal shows and then they were discovered by EMI and then they released their self-titled debut in 1984. The funk rock band received college radio airplay and rotation on MTV. This album featured guitarist Jack Sherman and drummer Cliff Martinez, instead of Slovak and Irons because of commitment to other bands. SECOND ALBUM ▶ For their second album Slovak rejoind in time, and then they released ,,Freaky Styley’’ in 1985. This album was a mix of punk and funk style. The band often indulged in heavy heroin use while recording the album, which influenced the lyrics and musical direction of the album. In early 1986.,EMI gave the Chilie Peppers $5000 to record a demo tape for their next album. They chose to work with producer Keith Levene,as he shared their interest in drugs.Levene and Slovak put aside $2000 of the budget for heroin and cocain, and that made a tension between bandmates. So Kiedis and Flea fired their drummer Cliff Martinez in April 1986.,and Irons rejoind the band. This album contained songs like ,,Jungle man’’ and ,,Catholic school girls rule’’. Because of Kiedis addiction he didn’t have a lot of desire to come up with lyrics and with ideas so the album was not very successful. THIRD ALBUM,DRUGS AND SLOVAKS DEATH ▶ The band members increasingly became addicted to drugs and mainstream success continued to evade them,so they released their third album ,,The Uplift Mofo party plan’’ in 1987. this album contained some songs like ,,Funky crime’’, ,,Fight like a brave’’ and ,,Me and my friends’’. The album was their first to chart on the Billbord 200 and it was No.148.After the band were named ,,the band of the year’’ by LA Weekly,Kiedis entered drug rehabilitation. After fifty days of soberty,Kiedis decided to take drugs to celebrate his new music, which was a bad idea.Sadly,a year later, their original guitarist Hillel Slovak diedm of heroine overdose on June 25th 1988. soon after the conclusion of the Uplift tour.Kiedis fled the city and did not atend Slovak’s funeral. Irons, troubled by the death left, SUCCESS ▶ After Slovaks death,John Frusciante joined the band as their new guitarist and soon after Chad Smith joined as their new drummer, and that’s when the band got more global success.Their next album was released in 1989. and it’s called ,,Mothers milk’’with more focus on melody as opposed to rhythm it gave the band their first taste of global success. This album contained songs like ,,Knock me down’’,that song is generated as a modern rock song, the there is the Stevie Wonder cover ,,Higher ground’’.Their single ,,Taste the pain’’ was futured on the ,,Say anything’’ soundtrack. The album peaked at number 52 on the Billboard 200. BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIC AND FRUSCANTE’S FIRST DEPARTURE ▶ Their next album ,,Blood sugar sex magic’’ droped in 1991. and it hit the third position on Billboard 200 and it became one of the most influential albums to come out of the 90’s alternativ rock scene. This album contained songs like ,,The Power of Equality’’ (one of my personal favorites), ,,If You Have to Ask’’, ,,Breaking The Girl”, ,,Funky Monks’’, ,,Suck my Kiss’’ and ,,Syr Psycho Sexy’’. Then the 2 most successful ones: ▶ The Grammy winning ,,Give it away’’ ▶ Number 2 hit ,,Under the Bridge’’ ▶ The well received records turned the band into international rock stars. The bands popularity grew so much that Frusciante quit in the middle of the subsequent tour( he quit in Tokyo in May 1992. and he went back to Los Angeles and he spent years in squalor struggling with his addiction),and then he was replaced by Dave Navarro who had just split with from ,,Jane’s Addiction’’.In 1992. The Chilie Peppers performed at the Lollapaloza festival.and later on were futured in one episode in The Simpsons ,,Krusty Gets Kancelled’’. ONE HOT MINUTE AND DAVE NAVARRO ▶ After John Frusciante left the Chilie Peppers,Dave Navarro replaced him for their next album ,,One Hot Minute’’.This album was the only album that included Dave Navarro trough out the history of the Chilie Peppers. The album came out in 1995. and it futured more heavy metal guitar riffs, the darker sounding recorde received mixed reviews. It contained songs like,,Warped’’, ,,Aeroplane” , ,,My Friends’’ and ,,Walkabout’’. ,,My Friends” was their third number-one single. In 1996. the band released a cover of the Ohio Players song ,,Love Rollercoaster” from the beavis and butt-head do ,,America film’’ soundtrack. After spending some time on tour Red Hot Chilie Peppers replaced Navarro with Frusciante in 1998. for their next album ,,Californication’’. FRUSCIANTES RETURN AND CALIFORNICATION ▶ Red Hot Chilie Peppers next album was 1999’s ,,Californication’’with more melodic guitar riffs and this record reached the third spot on Billboard charts. It sold 16 million record and is their most successful album. It was also listed at number 399 on Rolling Stones magazine ,,500 Greatest Albums Of All Time’’This album contains: ▶ Their most popular song,self-titled ,,Californication” ▶ Number one modern rock song ,,Otherside’’ ▶ And the Grammy winning record ,,Scar tissue’’ ▶ That same year they went on a world tour and released their first concert DVD off the map in 2001.And then n BY THE WAY ▶ After ,,Californication’’ in 2002. the Chilie Peppers released their next album ,,By The Way’’. The album had more balladas and less rap propelled funk jams then previous efforts and it peaked at number two.It contained hits like self-titled ,,By The Way’’, ,,The Zephyr Song’’ and ,,Can’t Stop’’. The album was followed by an eighteen-month world tour,a concert DVD,Live at Slane Castle (mu favorite performance),and the bands first live album,Red Hot Chilie Peppers Live in Hyde Park. The event was ranked as No.1 on Billbioards Top Concert Boxscores of 2004.In 2003, The Chilie Peppers released their Greatest Hit album which futured new songs. STADIUM ARCADIUM ▶ Their next album came out in 2006. and is called ,,Stadium Arcadium’’. Not onlt did the disc premier number one on the Billboard 200 but it also became the best-selling album of that year. It won multiple Grammys and contained successful singles such as ,,Tell Me Baby’’, ,,Snow (Hey Oh)’’ and ,,Dani California”. After another world tour that ended in 2007. the Red Hot Chili Peppers went on hiatus to work on their personal projects. Then 2 years later John Klinghoffer replaced Frusciante on guitar and the band started working on their 10th record. I’M WITH YOU th ▶ Their 10 album ,,I’m With You’’ was released in 2011. and its first single is the song by the name,,The Adventure of rain dance Maggie’’ and it became the bands 12th number-one single. ,,Monachory od Roses’’, ,,Look Around’’, ,,Did I Let You Know’’ and ,,Brendan’s Death Songs’’ were all released as singles. The Chilie Peppers were nominated for 2 MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Rock Band and Best Rock Album. GETAWAY AND FRUSCIANTES RETURN ▶ Their next album is called ,,The Getaway’’that contained hits like ,,Dark Necessities’’, ,,Festing on the Flowers’’ , ,,The Getaway’’, ,,Goodbye Angels’’ , ,,Sick Love’’ and ,,Go Robot’’. Kiedis said that their most popular song from this album ,,Dark Necessities’’ was written after a two-year relationship that feel apart. The band began the headllining portion of The Getaway World Tour in September with the North American leg, feauturing Jack Irons, their original drummer,as an opening act, beginning in January of 2017.They performed ,,Dark Necessities’’ with rapper Post Malone at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, and they also appeared in Malone’s music video ,,Wow’’. In January 2020. Chad Smith confirmed that the band is working with Frusciante again. THE END ▶ This band is my favorite band of all time and that’s the reason why I decided to write about them. I like their style and their creativity and I think its very different then any other band from the 90’s. Known for their fun live shows and their alternative rock style that mixes punk, rock and rap,I think they certainly made a solid name for themselves in the world of rock and roll. I really enjoy their music and I hope that they will release at least a few more records. ▶ Some fun facts; ▶ Anthony Kiedis, vocalist of the band said that he want’s to make music until he dies and that is what he is going to do ▶ Although the name of the band is Red Hot Chilie Peppers,Kiedis said that he doesn’t like spicy or hot food at all th ▶ In March 15 2019 they performed in Egypt, becoming one of the few acts allowed to perform at the Pyramids of Giza.

Dave Navarro - Beyond Addiction "Guitar World" (n°? - Février 1994) - Alan di Perna Clean and Sober Dave Navarro lives for today with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. L.A. is burning. A series of wickedly devastating brushfires have encircled the City of Angels, turning the surrounding hills into a raging inferno. But Dave Navarro looks implacably cool as he pilots his black Harley down Ventura Boulevard. The guitarist's newly sprouted goatee gives him a conquistador's air of stony self-possession as he glides along the wide thoroughfare. A bandanna and shades protect his hair and eyes from the pall of smoke and cinders that have made the city's air seem like the mouth of a badly vented fireplace. Angelenos have learned not to let castastrophe interrupt their daily lives, and Navarro is no exception. His bike safely stashed in a "Loading Only" zone, the guitarist enters a trendy coffeehouse--one of those self-consciously bohemian places that could only exist in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley. Settling onto a worn antique sofa, he orders a cup of black decaf and a bowl of cereal moistened with fruit juice. "I don't eat dairy," he explains. "No caffeine either. Right now, this is my only vice..." He smiles as he lights the first of many cigarettes. Studying the self-confident, purposeful guy seated at my side, I can't help but contrast him with the Dave Navarro I interviewed two years ago [GW, September '91]. At that time, he was a slavering, incoherent wreck, badly strung out on heroin and unable to even locate his shoes.
