15Th Edition May 21St to Sept 24, 2017 Media 15TH EDITION MEDIA MAY 21ST TO SEPT 24, 2017 KIT PIKNIC ÉLECTRONIK: AN ESSENTIAL SUMMER EVENT Piknic Électronik is an outdoor electronic music event aiming to offer immersive social experiences in a friendly environment. Located in an urban park just 10 minutes from downtown Montreal, Piknic brings together thousands of electronic music enthusiasts every Sunday from May to September. Piknic Électronik’s diverse programing has made it a highlight of the Montreal summer cultural circuit. For this year’s 15th edition, Piknic is back with 20 events from May 21st to September 24th. The Piknic concept has expanded beyond Montreal’s borders. In 2012, Piknic Électronik made its debut in Barcelona before expanding, in 2014, to the cities of Melbourne and Dubai and, in 2015, to Santiago in Chile. More international cities are coming soon, so stay tuned! 97 000 21 15$ ATTENDEES EVENTS IN ENTRY IN 2016 2016 SEASON FEE 2 AN OASIS IN AN URBAN PARK Piknic has been grooving and thriving in the pastoral setting of Parc Jean-Drapeau’s île Sainte-Hélène since its creation in 2003. This year, to allow the park to undergo substantial renovations, Piknic has redesigned all of its installations and has set up shop at the “Plaine des jeux” right next to the original site on the very same island. Thus, for its 15th season celebrations, the event has made its new home in a vast green space , completely renewing its experience and putting more than ever the acutal picnic at the heart of Piknic. As always, the site has two stages offering two different musical vibes: a main stage focusing on international acts and a second stage reserved almost exclusively for local talent. Around these stages, the site is surrounded by a sea of green featuring countless picnic tables where family and friends can hang out for the day. Those who didn’t bring along a meal can take advantage of the varied cullinary options provided by a new, changing selection of food trucks each week. The site also features several bars and large open spaces where Piknic lovers can meet up and relax. Wherever you find yourself, it’s always only a few steps from the lawn to the dance floor! Piknic is concerned about the impact its event could have on the environment, and has taken on a host of initiatives to reduce its ecological footprint. To ensure it follows up on this commitment, a strategic plan for sustainable development was established by one of Piknic’s founders, who is also a councelor with the Quebec Sustainable Events Council. Among its green actions, in 2013 Piknic implemented a system of reusable cups by Ecocup, which considerably reduced the amount of waste generated by the event. This initiative was recognized by the general public and the industry and has since been replicated by several other events. Piknic also limits the distribution of product samples and printed ads on site, and has installed a water fountain to reduce the use of plastic water bottles. These are only a few examples of measures taken towards sustainable development. 5 ATTENDEES FROM 2003 TO 2016 6 PIKNICKER PROFILE PROVENANCE 8% 2% SEX CANADA QUEBEC (EXCLUDING QUEBEC) (EXCLUDING MONTREAL) 10% OTHER COUNTRY 80% MONTREAL % % 53 47 AGE 3% 3% 18 Y/O 45 Y/O + AND UNDER 10% 35-44 Y/O 85 800 49% FACEBOOK FANS 19-24 Y/O 35% 25-34 Y/O 8 700 INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS 11 500 TWITTER FOLLOWERS EDUCATION 15% +500 HIGH SCHOOL SNAPCHAT FOLLOWERS 350 500 23% COLLEGE PIKNIC WEBSITE PAGE VIEWS (DEC) 62% UNIVERSITY Source: Étude réalisée par Novom du 7 août au 25 septembre 2016. 7 478 personnes sondées. • Petar Dundov: Biography
Petar Dundov: biography What is techno? Scientists and philosophers have long since pondered the concept of its musical definition since it burst out of Detroit in the mid-‘80s. Is it that notion of the “ghost in the machine”, of soul from electronics that its inventors elicited? Or is it more the repetitive throb and thump of 4/4 beats and slow-burning momentum that the Berghain generation are proponents of? Croatian producer Petar Dundov’s stunning music manages to marry both ideals in the most explosive of fashions. To Dundov, “techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dance floor and abstract enough to be a template for ever”. And indeed his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions. It’s the antidote for anyone who thinks that techno is about senseless, dull looping. Although maybe the word “techno” doesn’t give enough detail about his style, it’s probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres – and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it’s that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene. The last two years have seen his mind-bending single Oasis (played by everyone from Dubfire to Sasha to Ben Klock to Prins Thomas to Timo Maas) take the scene by storm with its intricate, ever-changing melodies, John Digweed snap him up for an epic rework of Alan Fitzpatrick’s Reflections, and Gregor Tresher squeeze a deep, mesmerising remix of his track The Life Wire out of him.

  • GREEN VELVET This Music Industry Legend, Trailblazer, and Currently
GREEN VELVET This music industry legend, trailblazer, and currently one of the hottest DJ’s and producers on the underground electronic music scene...Green Velvet… came into existence more than 25 years ago. In 1993 Green Velvet launched Relief Records and since that time has been a constant presence in the industry. When this very eccentric, green Mohawk wearing Green Velvet emerged, he sent shock waves throughout the House and Techno music scenes. What was even more intriguing was his background. Born in the southern suburbs of Chicago, IL he has always been an active athlete and focused student determined to follow his dream of becoming a chemical engineer. While he excelled scholastically he was socially introverted, but always committed to finding ways to share his enthusiasm for living. Following in his father’s footsteps, he began DJ-ing while attending undergraduate school at the University of Illinois and later graduate school at U of C Berkley. Until one day, he realized that while his dream was to become a chemical engineer…his passion…his God given talent was to pursue life in the music industry. That passion and commitment led him back to his hometown, and clearly kept Chicago on the House Music map. Even today, more than 25 years later…it is difficult to go to any electronic music festival or set and not hear music from Green Velvet/Relief Records. Crowds everywhere sing along when notable hits like: Bigger than Prince, Flash, La La Land, Lazer Beams, Live Stream, Preacher Man, Shake and Pop, Sheeple, Suga, and Voicemail, are blasting across the airwaves.

  • TONY H Bringing the Last Frontier Some Much Needed FIRE [Featured
TONY H bringing the Last Frontier some much needed FIRE [Featured Interview] Alaska has been called the last frontier, but what if I told you it’s the new frontier for up and coming DJ’s in the EDM scene? I spoke with an Anchorage local DJ and record label “Late Night Munchies” creator TONY H, about becoming a pioneer in the budding Alaska EDM scene. With an EP rising on the Beatport charts as of this week, we’re all curious to see where this hard working magician of sound goes to next. So TONY, how did it all start for you? Basically it all started back home in Panama. I was working at the front desk at a hostel called Luna’s Castle, and I would always play music for the guests upstairs. Once my boss finished building the bar under the hostel, he offered me one of the slower nights which was a Wednesday to basically dj for the guests. Once it got busier I basically combined my night job which was being a club promoter for all the major clubs in Panama and Djing. I hosted and DJ’d a college night Wednesdays at the bar which is called Relic. So has Panama always been home? And how did you find your way to Alaska? I am originally from Louisiana, but I was raised in Panama City, Panama. While my dad was transitioning from active duty to retired military, he ended up getting stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. I needed to save money for bills and such, so I ended up moving in with my family.

Additionally, they are suggestive of the breadth of texts that stu- dents should encounter in the text types required by the Standards. The choices should serve as useful guideposts in helping educators select texts of similar complexity, quality, and range for their own classrooms. They expressly do not represent a partial or complete reading list. The process of text selection was guided by the following criteria: • Complexity. Appendix A describes in detail a three-part model of measuring text complexity based on quali- tative and quantitative indices of inherent text difficulty balanced with educators’ professional judgment in matching readers and texts in light of particular tasks. In selecting texts to serve as exemplars, the work group began by soliciting contributions from teachers, educational leaders, and researchers who have experience working with students in the grades for which the texts have been selected. These contributors were asked to recommend texts that they or their colleagues have used successfully with students in a given grade band. The work group made final selections based in part on whether qualitative and quantitative measures indicated that the recommended texts were of sufficient complexity for the grade band.
