Société Française d’Orchidophilie 17 Quai de la Seine, 75019 Paris Cah. Soc. Fr. Soc. Fr. Perimetral, 1901, Montese, Belém, São Paulo, Brazil. Abstract Macradenia grandiflora a new species from southeastern Brazil is described and illustrated. It is related to M. lutescens, but differs by the number of lip calli, the size of sepals, petals and lip, the number of flowers per inflorescence, the cuspidate apex of sepals and petals, and the irregularly lacerate margin of the clinandrium. Key words: Macradenia, Oncidiinae, southeastern Brazil Introduction Macradenia Brown (1822: 612) is a small Neotropical genus of the subtribe Oncidiinae, which is closely related to eight genera of the “twig epiphyte clade” (Chase et al. 2009). Currently, the genus is composed by 12 species, ranging from Mexico and south Florida, throughout Central America, West Indies, to Bolivia, Brazil and Peru, growing in places with high humidity from sea level up to 300 m above sea level (Pupulin & Ossenbach 2002, Chase et al. 2009). In Brazil, Macradenia is represented by 10 species distributed in 13 states (Barros et al. 2015). The genus was described by Robert Brown in 1822, however it was never reviewed.

French Guiana (FG) is a biodiversity hotspot for trees, insects and many taxonomic groups. Orchids are pretty diverse but still poorly studied in this department. Orchid identification relies on floral morphology, but unfortunately, it is far more frequent to observe only their leaves. Naturalist often face this practical problem and can solve it through two different approaches. First, orchid can be cultivated in greenhouse, until flowering. This solution leaded experts to collect and store living orchids in FG. Second, orchid DNA can be sequenced, and compared to reference samples. This solution leaded molecular biologists to produce barecode like ITS and matK to identify species. These two approaches were handled in FG, in order to produce a set of reference sequences for orchids in FG. A total of 203 ITS and 170 matK sequences was produce, adding 103 species ans 7 genera to Genbank database.

The aim of this study was to inventory and taxonomically study the species of Oncidiinae (Orchidaceae) in the Great Curve of the Xingu River, Pará state. The floristic survey was performed in the area of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant, in the Vitória do Xingu municipality, centrally inserted in the called Great Curve of the Xingu River. Botanical collections were accomplished between June 2011 and December 2013. A total of 27 species of Oncidiinae, distributed in 15 genera, was inventoried in the study area. Notylia Lindl. and Trichocentrum Poepp. & Endl. were the richest genera, with five and four species, respectively, followed by Erycina Lindl., Ionopsis Kunth, Lockhartia Hook., Macradenia R.Br., and Ornithocephalus Hook., with two species each.
