Check out the events listed in the section of this report, and support all of our community organizations who work hard to build better neighbourhoods! I would like to remind pedestrians, motorists and cyclists to take extra care, especially when travelling in residential neighbourhoods. It's critical to be aware of your surroundings at all times....road safety is everyone's responsibility. The City’s Transportation Department is distributing yellow “Please Slow Down” safety lawn signs through my Constituency Office. These signs are meant to encourage all motorists to drive safely as they travel in our neighbourhoods. If you would like a "Please Slow Down" lawn sign they are available at my constituency office. If you will be picking one up please call 416-396- 7222 or e-mail [email protected]. On May 4, 2016 during Toronto City Council my amendment to remove the need for non-profit and community groups to register with Lobbyist Registrar was adopted. This is very good news as it would have caused undue distress to community groups and non-profits when working with their City Councillor on any issue. I am thankful for all your support! To view the item please see section 8 of this report. Please also view the section on Sir Robert Borden CI School in Section 10. The Toronto District School Board is held a public meeting on Wednesday May 11, 2016. The TDSB has decided to close the school. I would like to turn it in to a community hub. On April 28, 2016 Ontario Minister of Health publicly announced he is supporting ALL OF THE Recommendations in the Expert Health Panel including the dissolution of the Rouge Valley Health System. I am disappointed. Please see section 13 for details. City of Toronto Councillor Paul Ainslie Ward 43 – Scarborough East What's Inside ------------------- Staple Updates 1. Calendar 2. These plantings are part of our efforts to increase the urban forest canopy, increase diversity of tree species in the City of Toronto and help compensate for tree loss due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Public Transit: The new Light Rail Transit Cross Town East plan greatly effects our community it proposes 19 stops along Eglinton, Kingston Road and Morningside Avenue. To view the plan please visit www.scarboroughsubwayextension.ca/ Send in your comments to myself at [email protected]. Safety Review: Neilson Road at Trailridge Crescent (link to report) A review of the vehicle turning movements at the intersection of Neilson Road and Trailridge Crescent was conducted by Transportation Services. Based on the review, staff have concluded that changes to the intersection are not recommended at this time. Conclusions are based on a review of sight lines, road alignment, and collision history with a focus on collisions that occurred on Neilson Road at Trailridge Crescent and the private driveway. The results of our review concluded that the sight lines are clear at Trailridge Crescent and at the private driveway located on the east side of Neilson Road. The private driveway is offset from Trailridge Crescent. There is insufficient distance on Neilson Road between Trailridge Crescent and the private driveway to accommodate a shared centre left turn lane. Bonspiel Parkette Disturbances: Our office has received notification from residents been advised that there is some negative activity taking place at the park. The Toronto Police have been notified and have asked that residents continue to call our office or call them directly. The Police have advised that it would be beneficial to: 1. Provide specific locations (south corner under the tree etc.), description of the offenders, & specific activity 3. Ensure that you report any break and enters so that they can be investigated and tracked 4. Home owner have access to crime prevention audits from the police through environmental design audit as well. Your community is yours! Be vigilant and report issues so that the police may act.
