Catholic Church in Poland in the Face of Paedophilia Analysis of Image Actions
European Journal of Science and Theology, October 2020, Vol.16, No.5, 157-172 _______________________________________________________________________ CATHOLIC CHURCH IN POLAND IN THE FACE OF PAEDOPHILIA ANALYSIS OF IMAGE ACTIONS Dariusz Tworzydło1, Sławomir Gawroński2* and Marek Zajic3 1 University of Warsaw, ul. Bednarska 2/4, 00-310, Warsaw, Poland 2 University of Information Technology and Management, ul. Sucharskiego 2, 35-225, Rzeszów, Poland 3 Public Relations Agency Exacto, ul. Załęska 44, 35-322, Rzeszów, Poland (Received 12 April 2020, revised 28 July 2020) Abstract Increasing social interest regarding sexual abuse of minors committed by clergymen forces Episcopal Conferences of relative countries to take a formal stance on the subject. Skilful planning of media communicates is a challenge for the Church. Critical analysis of conference involving clergymen giving an account on the scale of the problem is helpful, especially when the media reception of such a conference was very negative. This article tackles cases like that. Keywords: Catholic Church, media relations, image creation, public relations, paedophilia 1. Introduction The Catholic Church in Poland - despite the fact that in public opinion is treated as a stronghold of conservatism, traditionalism, suspicion towards progress and novelty, has changed significantly since the end of XX century and continues to change its attitude, especially when it comes to usage of social communication and mass media. Increasing the Church openness towards media relations and using a wider range of social communications tools is increasingly visible, but this activity is too limited, sometimes handled amateurly and with lots of mistakes. The Church‟s attitude towards mass media was revolutionised by teachings of Pope John Paul II [1], but considerations regarding relations between the Church and mass media in Poland were initialised in the second half of the XX century by Primate Stefan Wyszyński [2]. -

Water in Pre-Christian Beliefs in Pomerania (Northern Poland) of the Early Medieval Period
20 S TUDIA MYTHOLOGICA SLAVICA 2017 15 – 32 Water in pre-Christian beliefs in Pomerania (northern Poland) of the early medieval period Kamil Kajkowski, Andrzej Kuczkowski Based on written sources and archaeological evidence, ethnographic and linguistic ma- terial, and the knowledge of the rest of Slavonic-occupied regions, the authors research early medieval Pomeranian communities in which water played a significant role. Water, as a life-providing element on the one hand, and a destructive element on the other, was not only essential for the economy, but also indispensably carried symbolic meaning and played an important role in religious ceremonies and magical rites. An attempt at characterizing Pomeranian water ritual also defining the sacred spaces of pre-Christian sanctuaries is made in the following article. KEYWORDS: water, pre-Christian beliefs, Pomerania, Poland, Slavonic beliefs, pre- Christian rituals, archaeology 1. INTRODUCTION The area of Pomerania, the north-western part of modern Poland, is symbolically restricted by three major rivers: the Vistula from the east, the Oder from the west, the and Noteć from the south. The northern barrier of this post-glacial area is the southern coast of Baltic Sea. One of the dominant features of this type of landscape is numerous, relatively small lakes and a predominantly longitudinally-oriented network of rivers. As drinking water reserves, as well as habitats of species utilized by the early medieval economy, they must have played an important role in the cultural landscape and religious ideas. In the following article, we intend to take a closer look at the significance of water in pre-Christian Pomeranian beliefs of the early medieval period, i.e. -
Activities of the Catholic Church in Poland Against Pedophilia in 20181
POLISH POLITICAL SCIENCE YEARBOOK, vol. 48(2) (2019), pp. 359–371 DOI: https://doi.org/10.15804/ppsy2019211 PL ISSN 0208-7375 www.czasopisma.marszalek.com.pl/10-15804/ppsy Kamila Rezmer-Płotka Nicolaus Copernicus University (Poland) Activities of the Catholic Church in Poland Against Pedophilia in 20181 Abstract: The aim of the article is to determine the type of activities undertaken by the Catholic Church towards clergymen committing sexual offenses, and more specifically: -pe dophilia. The research problem is a question: what actions does the Catholic Church take against pedophilia? In order to realize a research project, it was first determined how the offense is defined in the doctrine of church criminal law. Then, there was made an analysis of the activities undertaken by the hierarchs of the Catholic Church. On its basis, a typol- ogy of the forms of the Church’s influence at various levels was reconstructed in the field of both preventive and sanctioning actions against the clergy. In the article there was ad- opted a time restriction covering only 2018. It can be described as a breakthrough, first of all due to the verdict that was made in Poznań (MS, 2018), the accusations that appeared at the end of the year against the deceased chaplain of Solidarity, Fr. Henryk Jankowski and initiatives taken by both citizens and politicians, such as the first anti-clerical happening of Baby Shoes Remember in Poland or the creation of a pedophile map. In the cinemas, a movie entitled “Kler” showed up. It moved the topic of pedophilia in the Church. -
Biography of Pope John Paul Ii Pdf
Biography of pope john paul ii pdf Continue John Paul II (1920-2005) CAROL JASEF VODYA, elected Pope on October 16, 1978, was born on May 18, 1920, in Wadowice, Poland. He was the third of three children born to Karol Oytytya and Emilia Kakovsky, who died in 1929. His older brother Edmund, a doctor, died in 1932, and his father, Carol, a non-commissioned officer in the army, died in 1941. He was nine years old when he received his First Communion and eighteen years when he received the Sacrament of Confirmation. After graduating from high school in Vadowice, he enrolled at the University of Jagelon in Krakow in 1938. When the Nazi occupying forces closed the university in 1939, Karol worked (1940-1944) in a quarry and then at the Solvea chemical plant to earn a living and avoid deportation to Germany. Feeling called to the priesthood, he began his studies in 1942 at a secret large seminary in Krakow under the direction of Archbishop Adam Stefan Sapiehi. At the time, he was one of the organizers of the Rhapsodic Theatre, which was also underground. After the war, Carol continued his studies at the main seminary, recently reopened, and at the School of Theology at Jagelon University, before his priestly ordination in Krakow on November 1, 1946. Father Oytysha was then sent by Cardinal Sapieha to Rome, where he received his doctorate in theology (1948). He wrote his thesis on faith, as is understood in the works of St. John the Cross. As a student in Rome, he spent his holidays performing pastoral service with Polish expats in France, Belgium and Holland. -

It is especially worth noting that the decision about the canonization and its date was announced public- ly precisely on the day of our university’s pilgrimage to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. It was during a consistory on September 30th 2013 that Pope Francis announced that he would canonize two popes, John XXIII and John Paul II, on April 27th 2014, Divine Mercy Sunday. It immediately became apparent that this would be a unique event that would forever remain etched in our memories. Along with the inauguration of the new academic year, preparations for the fullest experience of the canonization of John Paul II – the founder, caring guardian and ultimately illustrious patron of the university – were undertaken. These were not only preparations related to the organization of travel to the canonization ceremony, but above all those whose purpose was to deepen the knowledge of the great Polish pope and the popular- ization of his teachings. Symposia and academic conferences organized on this occasion will be presented below in separate summaries. It was with great joy that we heard the words of the formula for canonization -

(Mk 1:22). on the Role of Wonderment in the Theological Method
Teologia w Polsce 14,2 (2020), s. 49–62 10.31743/twp.2020.14.2.03 Fr. Cezary Smuniewski* Akademia Sztuki Wojennej, Warszawa “ET STUPEBANT SUPER DOCTRINA EJUS” (MK 1:22). ON THE ROLE OF WONDERMENT IN THE THEOLOGICAL METHOD The study is a contribution to research on the theological method and shows the motif of wonderment in the teaching and poetry of John Paul II as an experience inviting man to get to know God and His works ever more deeply. The human experience of being amazed with God has been presented as a theological event – a grace of the ability to stand in awe of God, to get closer to Him and to speak about Him. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that the mission of a theologian is inseparably connected with cultivating the ability to be amazed with God and His works. The experience of wonderment is one of the elements leading to communion with Christ the Theologian, who reveals the Father. INTRODUCTION The aim of this study is to show the motif of wonderment and at the same time to try to recognize in this motif the content that can be useful in research on the theological method and thus indirectly on the mission of the theologian. The choice of sources which became the basis for the analysis was determined by the main idea – striving to show wonderment as one of the elements influencing the theological thinking and the experience of faith. The quoted documents and studies were selected with regard to their relation to the theological and semantic problem space, defined by the main goal. -

The Holy See
The Holy See SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY JOHN PAUL II ANGELUS Wednesday, 8 December 2004 1. Tota pulchra es, Maria! On 8 December 1854, 150 years ago, Bl. Pius IX proclaimed the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The privilege of being preserved free from original sin means that she was the first to be redeemed by her Son. Her sublime beauty, which mirrors that of Christ, is for all believers a pledge of the victory of divine Grace over sin and death. 2. The Immaculate Conception shines like a beacon of light for humanity in all the ages. At the beginning of the third millennium, it guides us to believe and hope in God, in his salvation and in eternal life. In particular, it lights the way of the Church, which is committed to the new evangelization. 3. This afternoon, in my traditional tribute to the Blessed Virgin in Piazza di Spagna, I will entrust the city of Rome and the whole world to her, the Immaculate Mother of the Word made Man. Let us now pray for her powerful intercession with filial trust as we recite the Angelus. After the recitation of the Angelus, the Holy Father said: Yesterday evening in Mossul, Iraq, an Armenian Apostolic Church and the Chaldean Archbishop's 2 residence were destroyed. I express my spiritual closeness to the faithful, deeply distressed by the attack, and I pray the Lord through the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin that the Iraqi People may at last experience a time of reconciliation and peace.
