U.S. FIGURE SKATING STYLE GUIDELINES U.S. FIGURE SKATING STYLE GUIDE This style guide is specifically intended for writing purposes to create consistency throughout the organization to better streamline the message U.S. Figure Skating conveys to the public. U.S. Figure Skating’s websites and its contributing writers should use this guide in order to adhere to the organization’s writing style. Not all skating terms/events are listed here. We adhere to Associated Press style (exceptions are noted). If you have questions about a particular style, please contact Michael Terry ([email protected]). THE TOP 11 Here are the top 11 most common style references. U.S. Figure Skating Abbreviate United States with periods and no space between the letters. The legal name of the organization is the U.S. Figure Skating Associa- tion, but in text it should always be referred to as U.S. Figure Skating. USFSA and USFS are not acceptable. U.S. Figure Skating Championships, U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships, U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships These events are commonly referred to as “nationals,” “synchro nationals,” “collegiate nationals” and “adult nationals,” but the official names of the events are the U.S. Figure Skating Championships (second reference: U.S. Championships), the U.S. Synchronized Skat- ing Championships (second reference: U.S. Synchronized Championships), the U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships (second reference: U.S. Collegiate Championships) and the U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships (second reference: U.S. Adult Championships). one space after periods “...better than it was before,” Chen said. -

This capstone goes into detail concerning the aspects of the sport itself, the history, the culture, and the impacts on current and former athletes. This research is accomplished with primary sources from interviews with athletes themselves, as well as secondary research from other skating sources. The goal of this paper is to educate readers on the sport, and to spark an interest in a growing discipline of figure skating. A DVD is included with four different videos to demonstrate the different skating elements and to highlight significant competitive programs from recent years. -

Muodostelmaluistelijoilla Viikonloppuna Tiukka SM-Taisto; Voittaja Lunastaa Lisäksi Paikan MM-Kotikisoihin
Suomen Taitoluisteluliitto tiedottaa 28.2.2019 Muodostelmaluistelijoilla viikonloppuna tiukka SM-taisto; voittaja lunastaa lisäksi paikan MM-kotikisoihin Muodostelmaluistelijat kilpailevat viikonloppuna Turussa Suomen mestaruuksista. Kilpailussa on mukana lähemmäs 600 luistelijaa: 4 SM-seniorijoukkuetta ja 12 joukkuetta niin SM-junioreissa kuin SM-noviiseissa. Seniorijoukkueilla panokset ovat erityisen kovat. Suomen mestaruuden voittava joukkue valitaan suoraan edustajaksi MM-kotikisoihin, jotka luistellaan 12.–13. huhtikuuta Helsingissä. Kärkijoukkueet ovat kilpailleet äärimmäisen tasaisesti koko kauden. Helsingin Luistelijoita edustava Marigold IceUnity, joka on hallitseva Suomen mestari ja maailmanmestari, lähtee kilpailuun hienoiselta etumatkalta kauden kärkipistein 229,56 (Season´s Best -pisteet). Helsingin Taitoluisteluklubin Helsinki Rockettes on vain 2,45 pisteen ja Helsingfors Skridskoklubbin Team Unique 3,29 pisteen päässä Marigold IceUnitystä. Espoo Synchronized Skaters´n Lumineers on kirinyt kiinni kolmen joukkueen etumatkaa, mutta on vielä selvästi neljäntenä. Marigold IceUnityn, Helsinki Rockettesin ja Team Uniquen valmentajat suhtautuvat kilpailun aattona varsin tyynenä tiukkaan tilanteeseen. Tasaiseen kilpailuasetelmaan on vuosien saatossa jo totuttu. - Kausi on kulunut hyvin nopeasti tähän pisteeseen. A total of 25 teams representing 20 ISU members have been entered for the Championships. This is the 19th edition of the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. The event will be held for the first time in Stockholm and for the third time in Sweden. Finnish teams have been dominant, winning 22 medals including eight gold medals since the inaugural championship in 2000. However, the defending champions come from Russia, Team Paradise, who won the first gold medal for their country in this discipline in 2016 at the World Synchronized Championships in Budapest (HUN) and defended their title in 2017 in Colorado Springs (USA). The Russians are looking for a third consecutive title, but competition will be tough. The challenge should come from the reigning World silver medalists Marigold Ice Unity (FIN) as well as from the 2013 World Champions Team Unique (FIN) and the reigning World bronze medalists Nexxice (CAN). Other contenders include multiple World bronze medalists Haydenettes (USA), Les Supremes (CAN) and the multiple World Champions Team Surprise from Sweden that are counting on the home crowd support to achieve their first podium finish in six years. -

Italy hosts the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships for the first time. The ISU introduced the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in 2000 and the first took place in Minneapolis, USA. The first ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships was held in Helsinki, Finland, in 2013. 23 teams from 18 ISU members have been entered for the ISU World Synchronized Championship 2014. A team consists of 16 skaters (plus up to four alternates). The athletes on the ice should move in one flowing unit at high speed and perform a number of elements such as steps, blocks, wheels, moves in the field and lifts as well as isolated moves. The Short Program consists of five required elements: block, circle, intersection, moves in the field, no hold element (executed in a block configuration including a step sequence feature). A well balanced Free Skating Program consists of ten elements (block, circle step sequence, creative element, group lift, two different intersections, line element, moves in the field or spin, no hold element, wheel). Finland, Sweden, Canada and the USA are the leading ISU members in Synchronized Skating. -

Hungary hosts the Championships for the second time (Budapest 2008). The ISU introduced the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in 2000 which took place in Minneapolis, USA. The first ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships was held in Helsinki, Finland, in 2013. 26 teams from 21 ISU Members have been entered for the ISU World Synchronized Championships 2016. A team consists of 16 skaters (plus up to four alternates). The athletes on the ice should move in one flowing unit at high speed and perform a number of elements such as steps, blocks, wheels, moves in the field and lifts as well as isolated moves. The Short Program consists of five required elements: Intersection element, move element, no hold element (executed in a block configuration (four (4) horizontal lines of four (4) skaters) including a step sequence feature), pivoting element, traveling element. The Free Skating Program contains ten required elements and must include the following seven (7) required elements, group lift element, two different intersection Elements, move element, no hold element, pivoting element and traveling element. Plus a choice of one element from each group A, group B and group C (see ISU Communication 1934).
