Drablands Diaries Decoded - Nintendoer and Stagger's Eggstravaganza!

Scattered throughout Hytopia, the Tutor has left a record of journeys to each of the eight areas of the Drablands. There is a great Easter egg hunt entailed in the details of those pages, and Four Eyes wanted us to find them all! Here my friend and Zelda Nerd Gang leader Nintendoer and I will detail the nature and location of

Straggler 11/14/2015 12:20 PM all 32 such objects. Each level contains one somewhere in its four stages, and in turn each area has one type of Easter egg that ties into the Legend of Zelda series.

Never fear, those who don't want their own hunt spoiled! We will mark each egg with the spoiler tag. Now I won't delete any premature comments, but this will take a little time to complete in coordination, so please refrain from

E Yeah! e 2

Straggler 11/14/2015 12:22 PM joining in this post until it is completed. Nintendoer doesn't have quite as much time to play as I do, and while we hunted many of these during Totem time together w/ other friends, others were independently located. He's wisely stored a screen of them all. I have not! So I'll be scrambling with Doppels to keep up ...

A special tip of the Dapper Spinner cap goes out to ZNG members Benjamin and

E Yeah! e 2

Straggler 11/14/2015 12:24 PM Sciz. Benjamin was on a mission from day one to find these all on his own, and documented it weeks ago. We chose not to peek. Our friend Sciz was instrumental in the discovery of the first two in the Dunes just a few days after TFH released. Without further ado, it's off to the Woodlands. Take it away 'doer!

E Yeah♥ e 1

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 12:29 PM ·Spoilers I'll start off with the egg of the Deku Forest. The object to look for here is a green butterfly, which may be a reference to Skyward Sword's Goddess Butterflies, although I'm not entirely sure. They are always perched high in the level, and are usually very easy to spot.

In this case, it is found in Stage 4, near the start. Pan the camera to the right to see it.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 12:35 PM ·Spoilers I agree that SS is the most likely inspiration, although The Minish Cap had a scant few butterflies of import. In Buzz Blob Cave, during Stage 3's triple crystal switch activation, near the upper right platform the butterfly is visible behind a tangled root. I've used the d-pad to pan from here, which is a big tactic in discovering these, but it's not necessary if you approach more closely. E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 12:37 PM ·Spoilers The Moblin Base? In Stage 2, look above the right-most cracked wall.

Come to think of it, Ocarina of Time has butterflies-who-would-be-fairies. Those weren't green, though. Neither were Goddess Butterflies. Minish Cap may be the intended reference, here.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 12:43 PM ·Spoilers The butterflies are one of three egg types that are not easily attached to just one game, but that's another topic eh Nintenbroer? Luckily I have this one saved from our original discovery during the Fewer Heart Containers challenge on the Forest Temple. It's probably safer to gaze upon this duo, visible by panning in the lower left alcove of Margoma's arena, after dealing with Stage 4's boss. ;)

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 12:49 PM ·Spoilers Riverside's diary speaks of rocks that move, and while Tri Force Heroes don't get to see that, it's not too hard to spot an iconic pattern like the one here on Stage 1 of the Secret Fortress. It is found at the base of the falls in plain sight. Only one such Goron-esque stone appears in each level here! I guess this can't be attached to just one LoZ title either eh? My number above is quite low.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 12:52 PM ·Spoilers In the Abyss of Agony, check out the far right side after climbing the cliff in Stage 2.

It's hard to tell whether this is a Goron's back, or a turtle shell. It's cooler to think of it as a Goron, but it's possible this is referencing ALBW or ALttP, as well.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 12:57 PM ·Spoilers I protest! These are Gorons! :p

The Cove of Transition has one of the first very tricky ones to spot. It is found in Stage 3, beyond the flood wall towards the left. Normally a trio would focus on the task of lowering this dam to proceed further, which submerges the Easter egg and hides it from view. I find this a very clever one, requiring attention to detail. E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:00 PM ·Spoilers The Water Temple's shell/Goron is in plain sight in the hallway leading to the end of Stage 2. I'm coming, Stagger! Just needed to take this photo first...

E Yeah♥ e 1 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:05 PM ·Spoilers The Volcano offers a cool set of fossils. It's not immediately clear until the one found in Stage 4, but these are various bones of a Dodongo! This appears to be one of its front legs, found in the Blazing Trail's first stage, near the top-left (IIRC). The Goron Suit is likely required to see it.

E Yeah! e 0 D Stagger 11/14/2015 1:09 PM ·Spoilers Boy is it ever a cool set of eggs! It actually makes up all of the visible skeletal structure of King Dodongo during his title screen in OoT! We could have presented that mysteriously, but why wait to gush? Here is another front leg in Stage 2 of the Hynox Mines. You don't have to view it from the speeding cart near the panels exit, but off to the right you see it embedded in the wall.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:13 PM ·Spoilers Small correction to my previous comment. I said Stage 4, I meant level 4; the Fire Temple. Which Stagger will show right after this..

The Den of Flames shows what appears to be a tail, found in the third stage. The first swinging platform that needs a Gust Jar boost has a platform to the left, on which this egg can be seen. E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 1:24 PM ·Spoilers Aw yeah! It's a beautiful egg. All I had to do was solo the Fire Temple and Moldorm quickly, no big deal. :p Ah foresight, you abandoned me in preparing to craft this post.

To view the Dodongo skull, after Moldorm is defeated in Stage 4 of the Fire Temple, a two-man totem should head up on the ledge near the Triforce panels exit. Pan up with the d-pad, and swap spots to get the full view.

E Yeah♥ e 1 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 1:30 PM ·Spoilers It was a much shorter trip to the initial seeing eye test in the Ice Cavern. Rather than the “distinguished bones” from Part 5, the disappearing oral history of Part 6 refers to a princess. Seen in Stage 1 of the Frozen Plateau by panning right from the Fire Glove area, it's a Zelda snow-woman! I feel these are visually based off the FS/MC iteration of the crucial character. E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:33 PM ·Spoilers Who made these Snowprincesses, and why? Could this be a pastime for The Lady...? Does she plan on striking Hyrule next? Will Zelda really care about whether or not she wears a black jumpsuit or a dress...?

The Snowball Ravine's egg is in the fourth stage. Simply go as far north as possible, and pan the camera left.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 1:38 PM ·Spoilers Ah, memories ... I think that was the first TFH egg I found after we bested that awesome big Freezard. Nice costume representation too! Tights might not make it in the Ice Cavern where they hail from. :p The Silver Shrine's gorgeously located Zelda sculpture is at the very end of Stage 2. Pan to the right amidst the icy trees.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:42 PM ·Spoilers Stagger accidentally showed this one to me. No big deal, I would have found it anyway. =P

I've grown very familiar with the Ice Temple after our trials today, haha. In the third stage, throw a player up to the second snowball dispenser, and look to the top right.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:47 PM ·Spoilers The Fortress has a strange set of eggs. Here's the one in the Sealed Gateway. See the strange panel just to the left of the topmost tree? It has legs. According to the diary, it's a bug. A well-camouflaged one.

I have a couple ideas what this is referencing. First, the shape is strangely reminiscent of the eye switches in various games. Next, the fact that it's a well-hidden bug suggests a...

E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:48 PM ·Spoilers ...possible connection to the invisible variety in Twilight Princess. Any thoughts, Stagger?

E Yeah! e 0

Stagger 11/14/2015 1:54 PM ·Spoilers My take on the tiny bugs described in the Diary for the Fortress was OoT/MM related. These diamond shapes are what bottled bugs will crawl into except for the absent hole in the middle, no? The hole would have made the toughest type to identify a little bit obvious.

I don't even know if this was in the Demo! Just above Big Bomb Link are bugs here, on the familiar bridge at the end of Stage 1. E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 1:57 PM ·Spoilers That's a good point!

The Training Grounds bug (insect? Arachnid? I can't tell how many legs there are. Curse you, poor resolution!) is probably the easiest to spot. Stage 4, top left corner in the initial, large room.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:04 PM ·Spoilers Right, it's a bit of a puzzler. The Diary mentions a lone tiny bug, but to me it's a group of them. I'm sticking with my theory. Goron! :p

The final one of the Fortress' peculiar squinting treats is found on Stage 3 of the Lady's Lair. Just before the final combat test involving a Hynox pair and a Ball and Chain Knight, the bug or bugs adorn the left pillar in this screen.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 2:06 PM It's a complete mystery to me what the next egg is referencing...

E Yeah♥ e 2

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:07 PM ·Spoilers A mythical hero is rumored to be found in the sands of the Dunes by Four Eyes. It's a diary that requires the Light Suit just to see, but what a welcome self portrait this is of LBW Link merged to a wall! The one in Infinity Dunes' complex Stage 3 is most easily viewed in the Dune Duds to the extreme lower left of the space, but the Water Rod gets you there safely as well. E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 2:12 PM ·Spoilers The next painting is a lot easier to see. In the second stage of the Stone Corridors, it can be found against the wall before the second spiked roller.

The ALBW Link paintings are by far the easiest Easter Egg to identify.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:22 PM Boy you've got me running around here! :p Easy to spot indeed, but the last two take a bit of intrepidity to have in the view finder - this one visible in the upper right of Stage 3 of the Gibdo Mausoleum is a prime example. Traversing the invisible platforms to the exit, the bouncing ball of hearts and rupees is hard to miss. While making the dangerous extra hike for it, keep your eyes peeled ...

E Yeah! e 0 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 2:23 PM ·Spoilers Hey, it's your fault for not planning ahead. =P

The Desert Temple's painting is hidden in Stage 3. Look to the left of the second rusty seesaw.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 2:28 PM ·Spoilers Green handprints are what you're looking for in the Ruins. With exception to the first one, these respond to an aditional light source, and are invisible without it. This first set is in the Illusory Mansion, Stage 4, northwest of where you fight the Link ghosts. I'm completely at a loss as to what these are referencing. Wall Master handprints? I dunno...Stagger?

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:36 PM ·Spoilers Don't worry, I'm having fun. Palace Noir is a delight! I bungled the previous key enough getting here, ha! In Stage 3, near the triple locked door that requires expertise at ghostly keepaway to get through, the painting to the right has the green handprint revealed by torchlight when viewed from the right angle.

Benjamin and I both like Wolf-Link's scent chasing ability as the Ruins reference.

E Yeah! e 1 D Nintendoer 11/14/2015 2:39 PM ·Spoilers Interesting...What about the invisible Floor Masters in Ocarina of Time? Another possibility...

The Lone Labyrinth is home to what is in my opinion the hardest egg to find. Like I mentioned earlier, simply looking at the wall south of the Stage 2 entrance will not suffice. You must light it up somehow. Kudos to Justin86 for discovering this one!

E Yeah! e 2 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:44 PM ·Spoilers Amen! We had been tossing fireballs at everything in the Lone Labyrinth trying to find the egg. Wallmasters aren't a bad notion. I liked Wolf-Link for it in connection with Arbiter's Grounds ...

The Grim Temple's handprints are a bit of a tricky pair themselves! If you defeat all of the enemies in Stage 1 before lighting the sealed door, they're gone. Light *Armor* was my method of choice here. E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:51 PM ·Spoilers Floormasters either for that matter ...

Sky Realm not only has dazzling level design and beautiful scenic views. It's got a fitting final Easter egg too: nests of eggs! Are they unhatched Loftwings? Oocoos? (Yikes, creepy.) Hard to say ... in Stage 2 of the Floating Garden, at the end of the Cucco-gliding but before battling Helmasaurs, look to the right as shown.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 2:54 PM ·Spoilers Or Cucco eggs. Strange how they are only found in the Sky Realm, isn't it? There's not even any used as livestock in Hytopia. Almost there! At the end of the Deception Castle's third stage, look to the left.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/14/2015 2:59 PM ·Spoilers Yes, Cuccos are probably the best bet. Buzzkill. :p Ah I jest, especially since to see two of the four in Sky Real, a bit of their flight assistance is required. Here after a couple botches with Justin and I searching around, we share in Nintendoer's discovery of Dragon Citadel's egg roost. This is towards the very end of Stage 3 iirc, and it will take green Link's feet to get you there.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Nintendoer 11/14/2015 3:02 PM ·Spoilers The final egg! Of both the Easter and literal varieties. In Stage 3 of the Sky Temple, look to the left of the second enemy encounter.

These were a blast to find, and I'm happy to show them off like this. Thanks for this post, Stagger!

I now have 6 posts left after this massive undertaking.

E Yeah! e 3 D

Straggler 11/14/2015 3:11 PM I have two, which I'm planning on using on the Bear Minimum journal, heh ... *Realm*

Thanks for catching up on the hunt given your much more hectic schedule, and sorry my lack of preparation made this take more twice as long to produce tonight. I hope it gets some attention now that it's complete, but then again, I hope everyone goes or has been looking on their own. 1heart Ice Temple, say when!

E Yeah! e 0

Blake 11/14/2015 4:51 PM I haven't read through all of the comments, but I don't mind if you point out the Easter eggs when we do challenges. I'm fascinated by this fiasco, but I don't quite think that I'm going to launch a hunt myself, and especially not anytime soon. E Yeah! e 1 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 8:24 PM Great showing! I liked the tag team effort too! It reminded me of how Nintendoer and I first met while collaborating on a hidden Luigi hunt in NES Remix 2.

I really enjoyed your discussion, save for one topic of interest: you have to be crazy to mistake the Rock Turtles for Gorons. May I present Exhibit A? Note the ridges around the arm and leg areas of the turtle shell. Identical, no?

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/16/2015 8:29 PM That is a Koopa. How is that an LoZ Easter egg? :p I've spent enough time around Gorons. You two have to be crazy not to identify the pattern.

Glad you enjoyed it bro! We've got to get our Bear on soon. This week is a mess for me, but after that I'm coming looking for you ...

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/16/2015 8:43 PM No, in all seriousness, I'll concede it could be a reference to Turtle Rock, which is an iconic dungeon in the series with three distinct appearances ... but when I first spotted one, I waited for a solid two minutes for the OoT Goron sound and a goofy face to pop out.

E Yeah♥ e 1 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 8:47 PM ·Spoilers The Koopa I presented was supposed to show you the way turtle shells are designed in this art style. You'll notice how the ridges for the arms and legs match the design of the Riverside's Easter eggs. The Goron suit, though similar, has a much rounder design. Plus the shells seem to sit above the ground with a hollow form, not buried in it or rest flatly on top of it like a solid rock Goron body.

E Yeah! e 0 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 8:53 PM ·Spoilers Finally, when have Gorons and water ever mixed? And don't say Oracle of Ages! (It was OoA where a Goron made his way to Zora's Domain, right?)

Ah, I just saw your concession. Glad to see your not as mad as your feats of collection would imply! And yes, let's grin and bear it! Don't know if I'm up for tackling challenges in my ursine gear like you've been, but I'd love to take on the campaign!

E Yeah♥ e 0 D

Stagger 11/16/2015 8:57 PM I spoiler tagged that br'er Benjamin, because of the detail of the area you included.

I'm not sure the art style applies, nor the physical space for the underside of a Goron to exist. The very next set of eggs doesn't correspond to that creature as it appears in this game. I don't think they're meant to relate to the costumes either. Strictly off a pattern comparison, I'm still of the same mind

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/16/2015 9:02 PM ·Spoilers and when it comes to water, that's a very mixed bag. MM? Not so much. TP? One of them decides to live a submerged lifestyle in melted ice, while the rest of them daydream about or loaf in hot springs.

All that said, it's a very subjective choice. There is probably an official strategy guide source that would decide it for us, but you know how I feel about those. Bears in the Dark playthrough?

E Yeah! e 1 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 9:03 PM By the way, I count FOUR, not three appearances of Rock Turtles outside of TFH. One might be trickier than the rest, see if you can get it!

E Yeah♥ e 0 D

Stagger 11/16/2015 9:07 PM ·Spoilers A dungeon named Turtle Rock appears in LttP, LA and LBW. As far as creatures, Trinexx in LttP, the overworld boss in LA, Grinexx and the family of four who help Link reach his lair in LBW would make four distinct appearances in three games, seven chelonians. Do you have another in mind?

E Yeah! e 0 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 9:12 PM ·Spoilers That's a great display of lore! I didn't know any of the turtles had names!

As for my answer: he might be more of an island turtle than a mere rock, but don't discount your ride to and from the Great Bay Temple in Majora's Mask!

E Yeah! e 2 D

Stagger 11/16/2015 9:19 PM Wow! That's a HUGE omission on my part! Good call. I love that guy. I wish I knew the name of the other boss. I'm too sleepy to look it up though. I also hope I gave you enough credit for your early bird work and our discussions about the nature of some of the types and their allusions.

Btw, temporarily maxed the TFH wallet today. I'm off to bed bro! Been getting up mad early for a few weeks ...

E Yeah!? e 1 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 9:27 PM Phew! Usually when I catch you forgetting a piece of trivia it's because I'm the one actually missing something like Link's Crossbow Training not being in the Hyrule Historia! Speaking of which, what's your take on ? I love how she seems to be a love letter to the often overlooked LCT. Glad to see it getting some acknowledgement in the greater Zelda universe.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Benjamin 11/16/2015 9:35 PM And thanks for the shout out! I'm just glad to get other people as excited about the secrets as I am. When TFH first came out, I had a feeling that if I looked around enough, I'd spot something cool. I'm happy to know that the developers rewarded players like me with such cool and mysterious stuff. I wonder what secrets Zelda U will hide in its giant landscape. I'm getting giddy thinking about it!

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/17/2015 5:53 AM Well at the risk of going wildly off topic from the original post, I'll jabber, because it's more than worth it to talk about these subjects with my boy. Plus this public forum is not likely to see that much action on the eggs. The Miiverse of old is gone. In this format, posts aren't spotted much. Community browsing is going the way of the dinosaur sadly. Besides, Nintendoer might join in the

E Yeah♥ e 0 D

Stagger 11/17/2015 5:56 AM chat, and we couldn't have an awesome three man discussion in messages. Oh, Blake is here too! That's perfect!

I'll get to that, heh. Linkle as an HWL nod to LCT is what I saw too, no doubt. You know I avoid spoilers, so it was news to me that she was part of the HW Beta. I've even heard now she was meant for Link's role. Don't know if that's true ... I find it silly that the gender choice is

E Yeah! e 0 D

Stagger 11/17/2015 5:59 AM overshadowing the potential of the character, as an enjoyable move-set and interesting story. I get it. Clamor for a female Link, women knocking booty shorts, all that - but from the intricate (Cia, Lana, Volga) to the simple (Wizzro), I thought has done well adding to their separate LoZ continuity.

On the topic of hidden goodies in TFH, on Blakes second organization post we had a very

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/17/2015 6:02 AM cool discussion. We really feel like the eggs, while quite nifty, shortchanged the nature of LoZ. How about more gameplay exploration? My ideas for what was missing ranged from well disguised shortcuts and additional material treasure rooms, to secret extra enemy dens or a three-person mini-game well hidden in each area. Zelda U will not disappoint there.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Benjamin 11/17/2015 6:11 AM I'm not sure if Linkle ever got past the concept art phase (she was first spotted in the art book that was released with HW) so I can't say if she was supposed to replace Link (prob not seeing as she doesn't use a sword) or function more in the role of a combat-ready Aryll (check out her bangs/pigtails) or perhaps Ilia. If the cutscene is any indication, she's going to play a role in the plot E Yeah! e 1 D

Benjamin 11/17/2015 6:15 AM which is fantastic news and is more than can really be said of Tingle, Twili , and Young Link. I only hope that they go back and add them to the plot as well. By the way, (speculation ahead, not spoilers) have you heard the theory that the big man Linkle talks to might be Bagu of AoL fame? I wouldn't put it past the HW team to drop such a bizarre cameo!

E Yeah! e 1 D

Benjamin 11/17/2015 6:21 AM As for more exploration opportunities in TFH, I'm glad they kept it subtle. Too many distractions like not adventure-progressing minigames could throw off the pacing. There are already shortcuts for the well-organized team, especially with the proper item-boosting gear, though I'm hoping to see the need for efficiency pushed to the next level in the upcoming DLC.

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/17/2015 6:24 AM I read someone say it was Error and thought Bagu made a lot more sense then, heh ... I am worried that HWL will simply exist for me as a place to transfer HW data to while I play on my teevee w/ the U. :/

Your point on how greater exploration would impact on-line play w/ randoms, as would have more complex puzzles, is sophisticated and appreciated. I still think if it revolved around no less than

E Yeah! e 1 D

Stagger 11/17/2015 6:26 AM two willing souls, expansions in that area was warranted to reach FSA type of heights in that one regard. TFH crushes it in most others, so ... and yes, there are plenty of timesaving tricks we learned Doppling. Totem Hammering stacks of the turtle enemies is one that doesn't translate well to multiplayer I've found. :p E Yeah! e 1 D

Robert 11/27/2015 3:12 PM This post?
