Abstract: 173 species are reported from the Keszthely Hills and its surroundings. Rare species are Pamphilius jucundus (Eversmann, 1847); Pamphilius histrio Latreille, 1812; Orussus unicolor Latreille, 1812; Tremex alchymista Mocsáry, 1886; Tremex magus (Fabricius, 1787); Dolerus (Poodolerus) vernalis Ermolenko, 1964; Strongylogaster mixta (Klug, 1817); Fenella arenariae Zombori, 1978; Fenella nigrita Westwood, 1839; Periclista (Periclista) albiventris (Klug, 1816); Tenthredo (Cephaledo) neobesa Zombori, 1980; Euura fagi (Zaddach, 1876); Pristiphora (Pristiphora) albitibia (A. Costa, 1859) and Pristiphora (Pristiphora) fausta (Hartig, 1837). Keywords: Hymenoptera, Symphyta, Keszthely Hills, Hungary, rare species Introduction Keszthely Hills is the westernmost member of the Transdanubian Mountains. It is built of dolomite, and enriched with limestone formations. The basalt formations of Kovácsi Hill and Tátika-region are the results of the volcanic activity. The other part of the inves- tigated area is the coastal region of Lake Balaton. This region is mainly moorland and wet meadows which were originally part of the lake-bed and turned dry as a result of the water management in the 19th century. The vegetation is abundant from the sub-Mediterranean xerotherm steppes, through closed oak and beech forests to cold gorges that preserve glacial remains. -

Introduction The world’s total forest area is just over 4 billion hectares, and five countries (the Russian Federation, Brazil, Canada, the United States of America and China) account for more than half of the total forest area (FAO, 2010). Apart from their high net primary production, the world’s forests harbour at least 50% of the world’s biodiversity, which underpins the ecosystem services they provide (MEA, 2005). Primarily the plants, through their physiological processes, such as evapotranspiration, essential to the ecosystem's energy budget, physically dissipate a substantial portion of the absorbed solar radiation (Bonan, 2002), and sequester carbon from the atmosphere. The carbon problem, considered a trend concern around the world due to global warming (Botkin et al, 2007), can be minimized through the carbon sequestration by forests. Forests have the potential of stabilizing, or at least contributing to the stabilization of, atmospheric carbon in the short term (20–50 years), thereby allowing time for the development of more long-lasting technological solutions that reduce carbon emission sources (Sedjo, 2001). Brazil's forests comprise 17 percent of the world's remaining forests, making it the third largest block of remaining frontier forest in the world and ranks first in plant biodiversity among frontier forest nations. -

Beauveria bassiana haplotype determination based on nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer PCR±RFLP Abstract DNA sequence alignment of the nuclear 5.8S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene and internal transcribed spacers (ITS) from Beauveria bassiana demonstrated that 6.62% sequence variation existed between nine isolates. A higher level of mutation was observed within the ITS regions, where 8.39% divergence occurred. Polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism, PCR-RFLP, and DNA sequence alignment of the ITS1 and ITS2 regions identified seven polymorphic restriction endonuclease sites, Alu I,Hha I, Hinf I, Sin I, Tru 9AI and two Tha I restriction sites. The allelic frequency of each genetic marker was determined from 96 isolates. -

Abstract: 358 species are listed from the Bakony Mountains and the Balaton Uplands. Monostegia analis (Konow, 1887) and Pristiphora cincta Newman, 1837 are new records for the Hungarian fauna. Megalodontes laticeps Konow, 1897, Gilpinia laricis (Jurine, 1807), Tenthredo arcuata Förster, 1771, Apethymus cerris (Kollar, 1850), Monostegia cingulata (Konow, 1891), Empria alector Benson, 1938, Cephalcia alpina (Klug, 1808), Nematinus luteus (Panzer, 1805), Nematus brevivalvis Thomson, 1871, Pachynematus montanus (Zaddach, 1883), Pamphilius aurantiacus (Giraud, 1857) are cancelled from the fauna-list of the Bakony Mountains. Keywords: Hymenoptera, Symphyta, Hungary, Bakony, new records Introduction The Bakony is a limestone cliff mountains with an area of about 4000 km2, the west- ernmost and largest member of the Transdanubian Mountains (Fig. 1). The Bakony is divided by the west-eastern fracture line between Devecser and Várpalota into two parts: the North Bakony and the South Bakony (Fig. 3 and 4). In broader sense, the Keszthely Plateau (Figs. 7 and 8) and the Balaton Uplands (Figs. 2, 5, 6 and 10) are also part of the Bakony Mts. The Bakony is dominantly made up of Triassic and Jurassic marine sediments (lime- stone, dolomite, marl). -

Humber Insect Mycologist and Curator, ARSEF February 2014 The previous (2007) version of this introductory material for ARSEF catalogs sought to explain some of the phylogenetical rationale for major changes to the taxonomy of many key fungal entomopathogens, especially those involving some key conidial and sexual genera of the ascomycete order Hypocreales. Phylogenetic revisions of the taxonomies of entomopathogenic fungi continued to appear, and the results of these revisions are reflected in the ARSEF catalog as quickly and completely as we can do so. As many of people dealing with entomopathogenic fungi are already aware, there has been one still recent event that has a more far-reaching and pervasive influence whose magnitude still remains to be fully appreciated, but that leaves much of the mycological world (including insect mycology) semiparalyzed by uncertainty and worried about the extent and impacts of changes that still remain unformalized and, hence, a continuing subject for speculation and prediction. -

Das Material aus den Familien Argidae, Cephidae, Cimbici- dae, Diprionidae, Orussidae, Pamphiliidae, Siricidae, Tenthredinidae und Xiphydriidae stammt aus zehn deutschen Bundesländern, hauptsächlich aus Brandenburg und Hessen. Für folgende Taxa fehlen Hinweise in den Checklisten für die jeweiligen Bundesländer in der Entomofauna Germanica (Blank et al. 2001): Für Brandenburg Tenthredo arcuata Forster, 1771 und Cimbex connatus (Schrank, 1776), für Hessen Sterictiphora angelicae (Panzer, 1799) und Tenthredopsis tarsata (Fabricius, 1804), für Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Orussus abietinus (Scopoli, 1763), für Sachsen Macrodiprion nemoralis (Enslin, 1917), für Nordrhein-Westfalen Pamphilius betulae Lin- naeus, 1758, für Rheinland-Pfalz Urocerus gigas Linnaeus, 1758. This short treatment is an attempt to summarize some of these changes, the reasons for them, and to provide the essential references to the literature in which the changes are proposed. As the Curator of the ARSEF collection I wish to assure you that these changes are appropriate, progressive, and necessary to modernize and to stabilize the systematics of the fungal pathogens affecting insects and other invertebrates, and I urge you to adopt them into your own thinking, teaching, and publications.
