3/5/2020 Jack Black Biography - life, family, children, parents, name, history, school, mother, young World Biography (../in… / A-Ca (index.html) / Jack Black Biogra… Jack Black Biography April 7, 1969 • Santa Monica, California Actor, singer, musician Black, Jack. AP/Wide World Photos. Reproduced by permission. Jack Black is a one-man dynamo—a manic, scruffy ball of energy who has quietly been shaking up the entertainment world for years. Acting steadily since the mid-1990s, Black usually took on smaller roles that were usually quirky, but always unforgettable. He also became one-half of a comedy rock duo called Tenacious D, which played regularly in small comedy clubs in California. As a result, Black developed a cult following of fans, who watched and waited for him to break out as a star. In 2003 fans got their wish, when Black skidded onto the screen as rocker-turned-teacher Dewey Finn in the blockbuster School of Rock. Almost overnight, Jack Black became a household name. Product of rocket science Jack Black was born April 7, 1969, in Santa Monica, California, to Tom and Judy Black, both satellite engineers. In a 2003 Newsweek interview with Devin Gordon, Black admitted it was ironic that both his parents were rocket scientists. He also put a Jack Black spin on the situation: "They're rocket scientists. I'm a rock scientist." While Black was growing up his parents fought constantly, which finally led them to divorce when he was ten years old. The separation had a profound effect on Black. In search of attention, he turned to acting.

BISSEX - “LOVE” LoveLove Dear Parishioners, “What is love? Baby, don’t hurt me!” We are all probably more than familiar with the lyrics from what is now the classic 1993 electronic dance hit by Haddaway, made even more popular by Will Ferrell in “A Night at the Roxbury”. Although found in these examples from pop culture, the question “what is love?” is as relevant to human nature and society as the more often analyzed question “what is truth?” As Valentine’s Day approaches in just a couple weeks, and as newly- engaged couples flock to the rectory to schedule their weddings in the wake of the holiday season, what better time of year for us to go a little deeper into the answer to the question of what love really is? What is love? Do I love my family in the same way that I love my friends? Do I love strangers I meet in the street in the same way that I love my father? Do I love God in the same way that I love my turtle? It is easy to say, as we often hear, that love is good, love is to be desired, love is to be promoted. In fact, this is so easy to say because the word “love” can mean a vast majority of different things. So what is true love? What can guide us to truly love God and our neighbor, as Jesus Christ asks (and even demands!) that we do? In the classic texts of philosophy, theology, and literature, we often find reference to different types of love.

  • Title: Television to Film: the Emergent Comedy in Contemporary Russian Cinema
Title: Television to Film: The Emergent Comedy in Contemporary Russian Cinema Author: Beach Gray, University of Pittsburgh This paper argues that a new form of cinematic comedy has emerged in the Russian Federation, but it is one that does not necessarily have roots in the Russo-Soviet tradition of the genre. The presentation focuses on the popular television comedy sketch show Comedy Club that plays on channel TNT. The show is based in Moscow, with spin-offs in St. Petersburg, Nizhnii Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, and in Ukraine and Belarus. Similar to the American stand-up comedy show Saturday Night Live, Comedy Club is a forum for aspiring comedians. Moreover, just as Saturday Night Live skits have led to whole films— such as Wayne’s World (Penelope Spheeris, 1992) or A Night at the Roxbury (John Fortenberry 1998)— Comedy Club has espoused a similar mode of production, in which a popular skit or a group of popular comedians is developed into a high-grossing commercial film. The paper focuses on productions of the Comedy Club studio: The Very Best Film trilogy (Kirill Kuzin, 2007; Oleg Fomin, 2009; Kirill Kuzin, 2011) and Our Russia: The Balls of Fate (Gleb Orlov, 2010). These films rely on crass “bathroom” humor and jokes with sexist and racist overtones that privilege heteronormativity and Russian ethnicity. The paper notes that one of the defining features of this genre is a constant reference to and parody of recent Russian blockbuster films in the style of Scary Movie (Keenan Ivory Wayans 2000) or Not Another Teen Movie (Joel Gallen 2001).
