Jersey Post Office Issued Five Stamps on 21 March to Mark the International Camellia Society's Congress from 30 March to 4 April The Jersey Post Office issued five stamps on 21 March to mark the International Camellia Society's Congress from 30 March to 4 April. The stamps are a good example of the diversity of the camellia world 'Captain Rawes', on the 18p stamp, arrived in England from China in 1820, the first C. reticulata to reach the West. 'Brigadoon', on the 23p stamp, a C. x williamsii, is a cross be tween C. saluenensis and C. japonica 'Princess Baciocchi', a semi-double from Armstrong Nurseries in the USA in 1960. 'Elsie Jury', on the 30p stamp, a .C. saluenensis x C. japonica 'Pukekura' hybrid ofpeonyform, was produced by Les Jury in New Zealand in 1964. 'Augusto Leal de Gouveia Pinto', on the 35p stamp, is a C. japonica formal double from Portugal, first seen about 1904. 'Bella Romana', on the 41 pstamp, is a rose form double from a C. japonica cultivar raised from seed by Del Grande, a nursery owner in Florence, Italy, in 1856. It was dedicated to Rome on the occasion ofthe Italian unification. The idea for the camellia stamp issue was broached to the ICS Directors by Mrs. Mayda Reynolds in 1986. It was put to the Jer sey Post Office two years later. The camellias are from the Jersey gardens of Mrs. Mayda Reynolds and Mrs. Vi Lort-Phillips and were photographed by Stuart Abraham, a commercial photographer, Final work on the layout was begun in 1992 by Mrs. Andree Valentine, now Philatelic Manager of the Jersey Post Office. All ICS members attending the Jersey Congress received Pres entation Packs; Mint sets and Presentation Packs are still avail able from the Jersey Post Office (see advertisement on opposite page). \ JERSEY 'CAMELLIAS' ~."'.' iiII f' To mark the International Camellia Society's biennial Congress being held in Jersey Spring 1995, five stamps featuring camellias which are grown within the Island will be issued on 21st March 1995. • Developing Cross-Bailiwick Restructuring Laws: the Guernsey
Developing cross-bailiwick restructuring laws: The Guernsey and Jersey Royal Courts sanction cross-border pooling of assets and liabilities of insolvent companies Publication - 01/04/2020 Overview In decisions delivered on 24 August 2015 and 7 October the Royal Courts of Guernsey Court and Jersey respectively held that where the affairs of two insolvent companies (incorporated in Jersey and Guernsey respectively) are so intermingled that the expense of unravelling them would adversely affect distributions to creditors, it can be appropriate to treat the companies as a single entity. Having concluded that there was no bar in the legislative framework of Guernsey which would prevent such an application and with the interests of creditors firmly to the fore, the Deputy Bailiff of Guernsey granted a proposal by the Joint Liquidators (from Grant Thornton) to consolidate the assets and liabilities of a Guernsey company with the assets and liabilities of a related, but separate company incorporated in Jersey subject to the sanction of the Jersey Court. The Jersey Court subsequently reached a similar conclusion in terms of its jurisdiction to grant a pooling order. This is the first time the Guernsey Court has considered and granted such an order, which has allowed a procedure which, on its face, would appear to contradict basic principles i.e. separate legal personality and that creditors can only share in the assets of the company against which they are entitled to lodge a claim. Acknowledging the inevitable rise of cross-jurisdictional corporate insolvencies, the Guernsey Court confirmed the basic purpose of a liquidation was the realisation of a company’s assets for the benefit of its creditors and held that where there was a solution whereby creditors would receive more than they otherwise would, then common sense dictated that such a solution should find favour with the Court.

  • Biodiversity Strategy for Jersey
Bio Diversity a strategy for Jersey Forward by Senator Nigel Quérée President, Planning and Environment Committee This document succeeds in bringing together all the facets of Jersey’s uniquely diverse environmental landscape. It describes the contrasting habitats which exist in this small Island and explains what should be done to preserve them, so that we can truly hand Jersey on to future generations with minimal environmental damage. It is a document which should be read by anyone who wants to know more about the different species which exist in Jersey and what should be done to protect them. I hope that it will help to foster a much greater understanding of the delicate balance that should be struck when development in the Island is considered and for that reason this is a valuable supporting tool for the Jersey Island Plan.
