;/ . '" . Dr. J. W. Carr President Former Preside~ Dr. J. W. Carr, the first president of Murray State College, is chiefly responsi ble for the construction of the new sta dium. It was through his untiring efforts and planning that funds were secured with which to build the playing field for the Thoroughbreds. Known as the "Grand Old Man" of Murray, Dr. Carr, 74 years young, is ac tive and energetic, ready on a moment's notice to lead his beloved Racehorses to victory.

Dr. R. T. Wells The man who made Murray State Col lege possible is Dr. Rainey T. Wells. His dream of an outstanding college in Wes tern Kentucky has come true. He gave the Murray College athletes their name -"Thoroughbreds." Through his efforts, the college wa!! founded, laws were pass ed, funds were raised, athletics and var sity activities were promoted. No more enthusiastic man ever breath ed than Dr. Wells. He has frequently traveled 500 miles just to see hi:; boys battle to victory. Whether leading cheers or walking up and down the sidelines, Dr. Wells is a true example of the name his Dr. J. W. Carr boys are carrying- "Thoroughbreds." Dr. Ra iney T . Wells

He has toiled patiently and carefully to de velop athletics at Murray State. His teams have made outstanding records in football, basketball, and baseball. He ar ranges schedules, secures players, and coaches basketball. All these things he does well. Hats off to a r eal Thorough bred! F rosh Coach Coach John Miller, a letterman of Mur ray State, has played the game for MUl' ray and is now -coaching the Yearlings so that they may be ready for t he var sity next year. His teams have been highly successful in football and basket ball, even though they have been match ed against some of the most powerful squads in the country. He knows how to assemble new material and round it into a smooth-working unit. His contribution to Murray State had: done much to br ing CARLISLE CUTCHIN renown to the .Blue and Gold.
