THE ATTENTION OF ALL EXHIBITORS, COMPETITORS, TRADERS AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC IS DRAWN TO THESE REGULATIONS

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a responsibility on the Society for the health and safety of Society and Committee Members, visitors, traders, exhibitors, contractors, volunteers and members of the public who are attending the Society’s Annual Show. As a condition of entry into Thornton Le Dale Show all such persons are themselves required to comply fully with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and all other current, relevant legislation and/or established guidance relating to safety at public events, including Thornton le Dale Show & Sports Society’s rules and regulations, this Health & Safety Policy and any legal obligations placed upon them.

The Society is committed to the highest attainable standards of health and safety for all of those persons listed above. To enable these standards to be achieved and maintained the Society will endeavour to ensure that all applicable statutory requirements are enforced and that the provisions of any relevant advisory Codes of Practice are recognised and implemented.

Every exhibitor and trader is responsible for the safety of all equipment including electrical generators and gas appliances which should be tested prior to use and the report be made available for inspection by the Show Director, if requested. Users should ensure that such equipment is operated in a safe manner and that in the event of such equipment catching fire, the appropriate means to deal with the incident is available on site. The Society will not be responsible for any accident that may occur from the machinery or equipment belonging to any exhibitor or trader, and it is a condition of Entry that each exhibitor or trader will hold the Society blameless, and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from any accident caused by an exhibitor’s or trader’s machinery or equipment.

The prior written approval of the Secretary is required before any Hazardous Substance can be brought onto the Showfields. Anyone bringing a Hazardous Substance on to the Showfields must ensure that it is transported, handled and stored in a safe manner.

Trade Stand Exhibitors will be responsible for the safety of the general public visiting their stand, ensuring that all exhibits are safe and that adequate escape routes are provided. Traders are required to have in place appropriate Public Liability Insurance and must produce supporting documentary evidence to this effect before being allowed onto the Showfield.

FIRST AID, DOCTOR and VETERINARY SURGEON are in attendance on the Showfield and/or may be contacted via the Secretary who can be located at the Pavilion.

In the event of an emergency, a TELEPHONE is available from the Secretary, at the Pavilion.

All exhibitors and members of the public attending the Show should be aware that live exhibits can be easily frightened and can be dangerous. They should pay particular attention where animals are tethered or moving and avoid behaviour that might alarm them.

Livestock and equine exhibitors are responsible for carrying out their own risk assessment for the control, movement and conduct of their animals at all times and for applying reasonable controls to ensure that they do not escape or pose a danger to the public. Livestock must be under the control of a competent handler when being moved. If the handler is a junior handler, he/she must be supervised by a competent adult handler who is able to restrain/control the animal in an emergency.

Children must be supervised at all times. No bicycles are allowed on the Showfield.

The Society reserve the right to prohibit entry to, eject or have ejected from the Showfields any person guilty of noisy or disorderly conduct or of any other practice likely to annoy other persons attending the Show, or who interferes with the quiet use of the Showfields by any other person.
