Support Your Voluntary Transport Schemes for free!

Do you shop online? Do it through easyfundraising.org.uk and raise a free donation for Rushcliffe & Gedling Voluntary Transport every time you shop! Funds raised for Rushcliffe and Gedling Voluntary Transport will help our volunteer drivers to continue to help older and vulnerable people to get out and about to do the things that many of us take for granted - visiting friends, shopping, getting to the Doctors, taking part in the community and maintaining independence. With over 3,200 shops and sites on board including Amazon, eBay, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Virgin Trains and Aviva, you can get donations on everything from your weekly shop to your annual holiday and it doesn't cost a penny extra! Plus, if you join and support Rushcliffe & Gedling Voluntary Transport we’ll get an extra 50p when you raise your first donation. It's really simple, all you have to do is: 1. Go to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/rgvt/ and join for free 2. Every time you want to shop go to easyfundraising, find the site you want and start shopping

2

3. When you check out Rushcliffe & Gedling Voluntary Transport gets a donation for no extra cost whatsoever! The shops and sites give easyfundraising a percentage of what you spend and they turn that into a donation, it’s that easy. There’s no catch or hidden charges and Rushcliffe & Gedling Voluntary Transport will be really grateful for your donations. Thank you very much for your support, we really do appreciate it!

Volunteering

Volunteers' Week 2017 - You make the difference

This year we thought it would be nice to highlight volunteer stories from various organisations across the borough. We celebrated and said thank you by showcasing the various stories and pictures across West Bridgford. There was a display on the noticeboard on Central Avenue, a mobile display in West Bridgford Library and a display in Rushcliffe Arena. Our colourful displays highlighted the work done by volunteers and shared some very personal stories about why volunteers do what they do.

There are over 300 volunteers in the Rushcliffe area, contributing over 75,200 hours a year. From improving the environment we live in, to spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and to contributing to a range of other essential service and support.

THANK YOU !

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Helen Stanbridge, our Volunteer Centre Development Officer on 0115 969 9060 or email [email protected]

Funding

The Big Lottery Fund has announced that the final deadline for applications to its £20 million Big Potential programme is 12 noon on 11th October 2017. http://www.bigpotential.org.uk/learn?utm_source=LINX+472+- ++15+May+2017&utm_campaign=LINX471&utm_medium=email

East Midlands Airport Community Fund

The East Midlands Airport Community Fund was established in April 2002 and since then over £920,000 has been awarded to over 1180 projects, to bring lasting benefit to the communities around the airport.

The Community Fund is managed independently by a Community Fund Management Committee that meets six times a year, and is open to community groups within a defined ‘area of benefit’ (which includes much but not all of Rushcliffe) that meet certain criteria.

The Fund is currently supported by an annual donation of £50,000 from the airport and through the fines imposed when aircraft exceed our strict noise limits. The Community Fund awards grants to support eligible projects that have a long-lasting community, social or environmental benefit and can award a maximum of £2,000 per application.

In order for an application to be successful it must meet at least one of the following objectives:

 To bring the community closer together through facilities for sport, recreation and other leisure time activities.  Supporting young people to prepare for the world of work and make work an inspiring choice.  Offer environmental improvement and/or heritage conservation.  Improve awareness of environmental issues through environmental education.  Encourage and/or protect wildlife.

Active Spaces – new funding programme

Active Spaces is UK-wide programme to secure recreational spaces in perpetuity and support community activation. Funded by The London Marathon Charitable Trust and delivered in partnership by Fields in Trust.

Active Spaces is a new national programme which will create activity programmes to inspire the most inactive communities to get active and use their local outdoor spaces. The programme will secure 50 new Fields in Trust protected sites across the UK and help increase participation in many different physical activities on local parks, playing fields and green spaces which will be protected for future generations to use and enjoy.

Parks and informal green spaces have an important role to play in helping deliver this activity agenda being the settings for entry-level activity. Inactive people don't suddenly start playing sport in a formal setting, they walk, jog, cycle or play – and they need safe local green spaces to do this.

The Active Spaces programme combines the protection in perpetuity of green spaces, together with revenue funding to engage inactive people on those spaces. Each site will be offered delivery of a physical activity project on-site to the value of £5,000 to serve local needs and target identified groups of inactive people.

For more information see the website: http://www.fieldsintrust.org/activespacesforever?utm_source=LINX+476+- ++22+June+2017&utm_campaign=LINX476&utm_medium=email

Shopmobility – not just shopping any more…

West Bridgford Shopmobility is a charity which helps people with mobility problems to enhance their quality of life; for an annual fee of just £10, it provides mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers and scooters) to enable them to visit shops and places of interest in the central West Bridgford area.

However, over their 14 years of operation, needs have changed, and Shopmobility has broadened its range of services to operate a short-term hire scheme (payable weekly), so it’s now possible to take a scooter or wheelchair home with you. Or indeed, away with you…

Look at the many benefits this provides:

 Going on holiday in the UK? - You can hire a collapsible scooter, which can fit in the boot of a car (or the luggage compartment of a bus), so you can get around easily while you’re away.  Guest with mobility problems? - If you have a visitor with mobility problems, we can provide you with a wheelchair or scooter for as long as you need it.  Been poorly, or just out of hospital? - If you’ve been ill, or broken a leg, or are recuperating after a hospital stay, we can get you out and about again.  Blue badges? You don’t have to be registered as disabled to take advantage of the Shopmobility service; scooters are fully insured, and you’ll be given full training on how to use them.

8

 The typical cost for the weekly hire of a lightweight scooter is just £30 for members, plus a refundable deposit.

West Bridgford Shopmobility is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm, and you’re welcome to drop in to their office behind West Bridgford Library and chat to one of the volunteers. Alternatively, call them on 0115 981 5451, or go online at www.wbshopmobility.co.uk .
