A Companion to the YEA Life of Christ Series Junior Book Four “Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up” (Deuteronomy 6:1, 7). What could be more important than teaching children the way of God and anchoring them to Jesus Christ? As the Scripture above shows, once a week is not nearly enough. Youth Educational Adventures (YEA) offers an ongoing series of lesson books for five age groups between the ages of three and 20 to be used at home or in Sabbath School. Each YEA book has an easy-to-use Teacher’s Guide available to show you step-by-step how to make each lesson come alive and reach the minds and hearts of those you teach. For your child(ren) to benefit to the fullest, we recommend that you order these YEA books to use along with the following daily activities. The purpose or objective of these easy-to-use, concise activities is to provide at least a week’s worth of activities for you to use: • To give the child an opportunity for self-directed study. • To deepen comprehension and retention of the YEA lessons. • To make the current YEA curriculum more easily adapted to the unique needs of: 1. -

Tried and True- How Great Thou
1 Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church November 17, 2019 Tried and True: How Great Thou Art Gary Rebok, UPVPC Commissioned Lay Pastor As we come to the conclusion of this sermon series “Tried and True,” we can often find that the foundation of our faith has roots in the generations that have come before us. Some of the hymns we sing have been born out of a tragedy that initiated a longing for God’s presence to comfort a loss or catastrophe. But as said before, these hymns have been tried theologically, bringing important biblical truths to our hearts, minds, and spirits that bring about memories leading to our faith. Let’s pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for those who have come before us to bring about the words of faith inspired by and through your Holy Spirit. We ask you, Father, to raise a new generation of Christians who will delight in the Word like King David, effective and fruitful in ministry so that the knowledge of You will spread to the generations we will never know. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of all our hearts dwell richly in us this day. Amen In choosing the hymn “How Great Thou Art,” I look back to my family tradition around the table and how the foundation of my faith has emerged from a previous generation. Shortly after being called into my first ministry position, my mother paid a visit to my office with a package. She said, I brought you something for your office wall, and as I unraveled the paper from it, I uncovered a picture, something for my wall, “she said,” a picture of a guitar and the words to “How Great Thou Art.” My mother knew a bit about the history behind the song and what a treasure it meant to the family’s spiritual foundation, eventually leading me to follow God’s calling. -

Monday March 29 Psalm 103:1–12 - Praise My Soul the King of Heaven
Monday March 29 Psalm 103:1–12 - Praise my soul the king of heaven 1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. “The best example … involves characteristic patterning and rhetoric, with suspension and inversion: it uses, as the metrical Psalms do, words in an unexpected order, but it does so in such a way as to make that departure from the normal speech order a source of strength rather than weakness.” This description on the web site Hymnology Archive of a well-known hymn is hardly going to make your heart race. Singing it might do the trick, though. It was sung at the wedding in 1947 of Princess Elizabeth, now our Queen, of course, and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; it was also sung at the funeral in 2018 of former U.S. -

June Birthdays June Anniversaries
Read through the Bible in 2016! (Submitted by Mike McKnight) Suggested chapters to read so that we might read through the entire Bible during 2016! This week’s “schedule”: Day 144 - Psalm 108-110 Monday • Vol. 27 No. 22 May 29, 2016 • Day 145 - 1 Chronicles 23-25 Tuesday • Day 146 - Psalm 131, 138-139, 143-145 Wednesday Hymn Stories… • Day 147 - 1 Chronicles 26-29; Psalm 127 Thursday • Day 148 - Psalm 111-118 Friday All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name • Day 149 - 1 Kings 1-2; Psalm 37, 71, 94 Saturday Edward Perronet • Day 150 - Psalm 119:1-88 Sunday Edward Perronet fled France to escape religious persecution. For a time, Perronet was a co-worker of John and Charles Wesley. John Wesley was always trying to get him to preach; but Perronet, though June Birthdays capable but 18 years younger, was somewhat in awe of Wesley, and 9 Debbie Pescador 20 Mike Bruni always deferred to him. Any time John Wesley was present, Perronet 12 Celina Perales 23 Agripina Carrillo felt Wesley should do the preaching. But John Wesley was not one to take “no” for an answer. So, one day, in the middle of a meeting, he simply announced, “Brother Perronet will now speak.” Thinking June Anniversaries quickly, Perronet stood before the large crowd and declared, “I will 5 Kurt & Debbie Hoffman 11 Marcos & Celina Perales now deliver the greatest sermon ever preached on earth.” You can imagine he got everyone’s attention. He then read the Sermon on the Mount, and sat down. In time, Edward broke with the Wesleys over various Methodist Regular Meeting Times Church of Christ practices, and John Wesley excluded his hymns from Methodist 81-377 Ave 46 Sunday…………9:45 a.m. -
