MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE LOUISIANA STATE MUSEUM Board of Directors Monday, November 13, 2017 12:30 p.m. – The Old U.S. Mint New Orleans, Louisiana Members Present: Madlyn Bagneris, Bill Cody, Mary Coulon, Lee Felterman, George Hero, Kevin Kelly, Carolyn Morris, Lawrence Powell, Anne Redd, Melissa Steiner, Rosemary Upshaw Ewing, Lana Sonnier Venable, William Wilton Members Absent: Fairleigh Cook Jackson, Sharon Gahagan, Ann Irwin, Aleta Leckelt, Larry Schmidt Also Present: David Dalia, Susan Maclay, Jason Strada, Julia George Moore LSM Staff Present: Rennie Buras, Greg Lambousy, Yvonne Mack, Steven Maklansky, Maryann Miller, Elizabeth Sherwood, Bridgette Thibodeaux. A quorum was present. Call to Order Dr. Powell called the meeting to order at 12:47 p.m. Reminder was made to attend next board meeting in Natchitoches. A schedule of Sunday events will be circulated in advance. Motion to Adopt the Agenda Kevin Kelly moved to accept the meeting agenda and the motion was seconded by Melissa Steiner. The motion was unanimously approved. Motion to Adopt the Minutes Kevin Kelly moved to adopt the meeting minutes from October 23, 2017. The motion was seconded by Melissa Steiner. Corrections to the spelling of Madlyn Bagneris’ name and adding Lana Venable as absent were requested. After corrections, the minutes were unanimously approved. Interim Director’s Report Steven Maklansky provided an update on Prospect 4, the Spanish Exhibition, future NOLA, the Napoleon show, and planned updates to the Presbytere lobby including a King of Endymnion costume and model planes from Wedell-Williams Museum. Irby Committee Report Rennie Buras provided the summary of the commercial lease process. He relayed the Irby Committee’s recommendation to postpone any action. Wil Wilton presented the Irby/Finance Committee report and recommendations. Anne Redd moved to accept the Irby Committee report and recommendations: 1. 519 St. Ann 2nd Floor (Ben Skillman) – Approve tenant’s request to add Jim Bernhardt as a co- tenant on the residential lease agreement. 2. 539 St. Ann 2nd Floor (Julie Simpson) – Approve tenant’s request to extend their lease one month. The motions were unanimously approved. Collections Committee Report Anne Redd and Steven Maklansky presented the Collections Committee report. Because the Collection Committee lacked a quorum, no business could be conducted nor motions made by the committee. Ms. Redd presented the Collections staff’s recommendations for accessions, incoming loan extensions, and outgoing loan extensions provided in Exhibit H for approval by the board. George Hero moved to approve the recommendations and Rosemary Upshaw Ewing seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. Friends of Cabildo report Friends of the Cabildo report was provided by Jason Strada. Louisiana Museum Foundation report Louisiana Museum Foundation report was provided by Susan Maclay. New Business Ms. Ewing raised the issue of beginning the search for a permanent Director. No formal board action is required at this time. Dr. Powell will work with staff to prepare and present information regarding the selection process, including the appointment of a search committee, at a future board meeting. Dr. Powell raised the issue of support for renaming of Press Street and suggested the matter could be included on a future meeting agenda. Adjournment Melissa Steiner moved to adjourn the meeting and Kevin Kelly seconded. The meeting adjourned at 1:39 p.m. Exhibit H I.
