2.2.6 Bangladesh Jessore Airport
2.2.6 Bangladesh Jessore Airport During the 2nd World War the British Government constructed an air base in Jashore for British Air Force. In 1945 the air base was in operation. In 1950, the Pakistan Army and Air Force base was established. In 1956, initiatives were taken to start a full airport in Jashore and completed in 1960. The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, but it is also used by the Bangladesh Air Force as a part of BAF Matiur Rahman Base and training airfield for Bangladesh Air Force Academy. This airport is located at 7 km north of Jashore city and 140 km south-west from Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. The only destination is Dhaka for the passengers. Four airlines (Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Novo Air, United Airways and US-Bangla Airlines) are presently operating their passenger flights in Jashore-Dhaka-Jashore route. Besides this domestic cargo flights are also operating to and from different destination at Jashore airport. Khulna Division, Bangladesh
Pre Feasibility Study Report For IT Park at KUET, Khulna December 2016 Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Information & Communication Technology Division ICT Tower, Agargaon, Dhaka. www.bhtpa.gov.bd Executive Summary To achieve sustainable development goal and become middle income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041, the present Govt. has declared Digital Bangladesh “Vision 2021” on 12th December 2008. The main objectives of Digital Bangladesh are to create Employement Opportunities, conducive business environment and Socio Economic development. To improve the economic condition and increase employment opportuniies IT/ITES is now thrust sector. The demand of IT/IT enabled services is increasing throughout the world and the investors around the world needs a competitive cost of production. Bangladesh has a sizeable unemployed and educated young population with low labour cost of production which can be utilized in this sector with proper training and guidance. GOB needs to create skilled manpower through developing world-class business environment conducive business environment for IT/ITES to attract potential foreign and local entrepreneurs for investing in Bangladesh. There is also an advantage of time zone. Bangladesh labour force can do the work ordered from Western countries overnight and have the job done before business hours begin the next day. Bangladesh has one of the most attractive population demography in the world –relatively high young population base as over 34% are in age group of 15-34 years ; which is favorable for IT-BPO industry. Analyst projections reveal that this number is further slated to go up. This corresponds to a young working population of over 53 million people- large enough to man the fledging IT /ITES industry for years while keeping the costs low. -
Demand Forecasting for a Domestic Airport-A Case Study
Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development (ICCESD 2016), 12~14 February 2016, KUET, Khulna, Bangladesh (ISBN: 978-984-34-0265-3) DEMAND FORECASTING FOR A DOMESTIC AIRPORT-A CASE STUDY Md. Salahuddin Sohag*1 and Md. Rokonuzzaman2 1 Student, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh, e-mail: [email protected] 2 Professor, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh, e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Passenger demand forecasting of an airport is regarded as a critical and important activity for an economic airport planning and development process. Different demand models are usually used to forecast the demand of an airport. In this paper, a back propagation neural network model is developed to forecast the demand of a new domestic airport in a divisional capital in Bangladesh. Several factors such as GDP, Population and Travel time ratio etc. have been used for the forecasting process. From the results of this study, it is observed that ANN serves as a reliable and simple predictive tool for air travel demand forecast. A comparative study is also done between the predictions of neural network and gravity type demand model. Keywords: Airport, passenger demand , ANN model , gravity model 1. INTRODUCTION Air transportation system is regarded as a special mode of transportation due to its operational and level of service characteristics. The infrastructure needed for air transportation is very large and involves huge investment (Rangaraju, 1992). The effectiveness of an air transport system mostly depends on the number of users using it. Forecasting passenger transport demand is therefore of critical importance for existing airport authorities. -

Management of Solid Wastes of Air Transport: a Case Study on Jessore Airport, Khulna City Region, Bangladesh
Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development (ICCESD 2016), 12~14 February 2016, KUET, Khulna, Bangladesh (ISBN: 978-984-34-0265-3) MANAGEMENT OF SOLID WASTES OF AIR TRANSPORT: A CASE STUDY ON JESSORE AIRPORT, KHULNA CITY REGION, BANGLADESH T.K. Roy*1, S. S. Misty2 and F.Hadia3 1Assistant Professor, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Bangladesh, e-mail: [email protected] 2Planner, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Bangladesh, e-mail: [email protected] 2Planner, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Bangladesh, e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Solid Waste Management System (SWMS) is a key feature for a city’s aesthetic view and image. SWMS in transportation sector is an important part for city planning. Khulna is one of the important regions of Bangladesh from economic, administrative and tourism point of view. Jessore Airport (JA) is the only one domestic airport situated in Khulna division. Proper SWMS is very crucial for the JA. The management system of solid waste is comprised of its collection, transportation and disposal. Semi structured interviews are conducted with related stakeholders like Airport Engineer, Manager, Staff and Passengers to collect data on SWMS in JA. Among the 385 passengers of Aeroplanes connected with JA, 5% (20 persons) are interviewed. Overall two types of solid waste are generated from JA namely flight wastes and non-flight wastes. Total 16 people are involved in SWM in JA including Aeroplanes. After collection of wastes, they dump the wastes into Reinforce Cement Concrete (RCC) built dustbin adjacent to the JA. -
