Please note: reports on these remits are to be sent to the Clerks of Assembly in terms of Book of Forms sections 257 and 297.3. Remit A, 1996: That the following amendment to section 27.10 of the Book of Forms be adopted and sent to the presbyteries under the Barrier Act (Clerks of Assembly, Rec. 1, p. 243, 23): Revised section 27.10 - Minutes of sessions shall not be reproduced, and the single copy shall be produced by the clerk of session. When agreed to by the session, a summary of minutes composed under the supervision of the moderator and clerk, and containing only material judged by the composers to be suitable for distribution to all members of session, may be prepared and thus distributed. (Declaratory Acts: A&P 1988, pp. 288, 35 and 1991 pp. 254, 37). Notwithstanding the foregoing, one copy of each set of minutes may be made and kept apart from the original minutes and stored in a vault or safety deposit box for microfilming after every five years, such microfilms to be deposited with the Archives of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, whereupon the collected additional copies of the minutes are to be destroyed in the presence of the session. Remit B, 1996: That new section 80.2, Book of Forms be approved and sent down to the presbyteries under the Barrier Act (Clerks of Assembly, Rec. No. 6, p. 246, 23): New section 80.2 - The Clerks of Assembly and other agencies, committees, and task forces of the Assembly are instructed to ensure that all study papers, referrals and questionnaires addressed to presbyteries and/or sessions are in the hands of the respective clerks three full months in advance of the deadline for response back to the agency, committee or task force of General Assembly. Remit C, 1996: That new sections 201.3 and 215.2 of the Book of Forms be approved and sent down to the presbyteries under the Barrier Act (Clerks of Assembly, Rec.

A quorum was present. Welcome The President, Cari Copeman-Haynes, welcomed delegates to the meeting. First Nation Hereditary Chief Adam Eneas welcomed the delegates to the traditional, unceded territories Welcome of the Okanagan Nation. Introductions The President invited the table group members to introduce themselves to each other. The President then introduced the musicians for the weekend: Bruce Harding, Rob Copeman- Haynes, Julia Copeman-Haynes and Grace Gauthier. She also acknowledged the Theme & Worship team: Lori Megley-Best (Chair), Ryan Slifka, Brian Thorpe, Maggie Enwright and Will Sparks. Janice Guthrie served as Biblical study resource. It was acknowledged that Jeff Seaton and Leenane Shiels were original members of the Theme and Worship team. Worship The President acknowledged that many people would contribute to the Theme & Worship times during the weekend, including Yoko Kihara, Val Taylor, Dan Kierkegaard, and Richard Chung, members of BC Conference Intercultural Ministries. The worship and theme times throughout the weekend were based on readings from 2 Corinthians 4. 1, 7, 13 – 5:1, 17-20. During the opening worship, the names of those who have died since the last meeting of the Conference were lifted up in remembrance.

    “What Language Shall I Borrow?” How a United Church Congregation Articulates its Choices from the 41st General Council’s Recommendations Regarding Peacebuilding in Israel/Palestine by Donna Patricia Kerrigan A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of Emmanuel College and the Toronto School of Theology In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Ministry awarded by Emmanuel College and the University of Toronto © Copyright by Donna Patricia Kerrigan 2016 “What Language Shall I Borrow?” How a United Church Congregation Articulates its Choices from the 41st General Council’s Recommendations Regarding Peacebuilding in Israel/Palestine Donna Patricia Kerrigan Doctor of Ministry Emmanuel College and the University of Toronto 2016 Abstract The thesis of this dissertation is that members of the United Church of Canada who respond to the Report on Israel/Palestine Policy select from its peacebuilding recommendations according to their attitudes to theological contextualizing. Two attitudes give rise to two different methods, which are seldom articulated but underlie choices regarding peace initiatives such as boycotting or ecumenical/multifaith cooperation. The dissertation includes five parts: an investigation of contextual theologies for peacebuilders; a history of the UCC and ecumenical partners who have struggled to assist peace in Israel/Palestine; strategies for peace-minded ministers; a case-study of one congregation choosing peace strategies; and recommendations for denominational communications and peacebuilding. This thesis poses a taxonomy for theologizing in context, moving from initial interaction with the other by translating local systems of thought into terms of the Gospel message. Contextualizers proceed either to immerse in the local culture (anthropological) or to engage with locals in mutual learning (synthesis).

    Maritime Conference The United Church of Canada The 89th Annual Meeting Sackville, New Brunswick May 22 - 25, 2014 SECTION 1 REPORTS TO CONFERENCE President’s Message This past year has gone by faster than I’d ever anticipated. I have already visited three Presbyteries, and been guest-preacher at two pastoral charges; I am scheduled to visit three more presbyteries, and Bermuda Synod, over the next two months. I have had the privilege of representing Maritime Conference on a number of pastoral occasions. And each visit I have done, has impressed me with the dedication of the church folk who are there. There is confusion and sadness, certainly, as many see attendance falling away from regular Sunday worship services, and as our congregations age. But there is also a sense of excitement, as pastoral charges and congregations start to explore new ways of being church in their communities and in their world. Home church, mission church, coffee bar church, shared ministry, cyber congregations —all are part of the options opening up to those who are passionate about being the hands and feet of Christ. As I sit at my desk this (very!) cold February afternoon, I am reminded of the words of the hymn that tells us, “In the cold and snow of winter, there’s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see!” Our church is in that waiting stage. We are waiting to see what sort of spring is coming for our church, our mission, our identities as people of faith and a community of Christ.

    Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters Regional Council The United Church of Canada The 2nd Annual Meeting Virtual Meeting September 26, 2020 REPORTS TO REGION Every week, regardless of what church I find myself in, regardless of what community of faith has welcomed me, we pray these words ‘…your kingdom come’. Just what does that mean? What does it mean for us as Fundy St Lawrence Dawning Waters? What does it mean for the United Church of Canada? What does it mean for the Christian church as a whole? Brian McLaren writes “Jesus proposed a transformative vision of God. God isn't the one who condemns the poor and weak. God isn't the one who favors the rich and righteous. God isn't the one who ordains the rich to be in the castle and the poor to be in the gutter. God is the one who loves everyone, including the people the rest of us think don't count.” This year has been a continuation of transformation within our church as we continue to live into our new structure and to say goodbye to the old. As we work through our first year as elected officers of the new Region, there are joys and sorrows, losses and blessings. From my personal point of view, it has offered me an opportunity to spend time with the people who are the Fundy St Lawrence Dawning Waters region. I have traveled throughout New Brunswick and PEI and I have had the privilege to meet with and listen to stories from the most amazing people.

    ARTIMISI, ANTHONY B., D.M.A. The Study of Jeff Porcaro's Musical Style and the Development of an Analytical Model for the Study of Drum Set Style in Popular Music. (2011) Directed by Dr. David Nelson and Dr. Kristopher Keeton. 206 pp. Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro was one of the preeminent drummers from the middle of the 1970‘s through his untimely passing on August 5, 1992. He was a founding member of the Grammy Award winning band, Toto, and the list of albums on which his drumming appears includes six hundred ninety-three entries. His willingness to help others and commitment to excellence made a lasting impact on the drumming community and the music industry as a whole. The goal of this research was to complete an analysis of Porcaro‘s drumming style. In order to accomplish this goal, a model was developed that allowed for the analysis of drum set performance based on Robert Breithaupt‘s article entitled ―Musical Considerations for Drumset Improvisation.‖ This article identified nine strategies teachers can use with young students regarding drum set improvisation. Seven of these strategies were used to form a comparative analytical model of musical elements which created a summary of drumming style implemented on Jeff Porcaro for the purposes of this paper: Dynamics, Rate of Strokes, Accents, Rests and Rhythmic Figures, Unisons, Hand-to-Foot Distribution and Special Effects. Porcaro‘s peers and colleagues identified six songs as being representative of his drumming: Boz Scaggs‘s ―Lowdown,‖ ―Lido Shuffle,‖ ―Gimme the Goods‖ and ―Jojo,‖ Steely Dan‘s ―Gaucho,‖ and Toto‘s ―Rosanna.‖ The analytical model applied to the choruses of these songs shows that Porcaro manipulated the different musical elements in a variety of way in order to build to a musical peak during the final chorus of each song.
