News Release Metra Media Relations 312-322-6776 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Take Metra and CTA to the ballpark Avoid Wrigley, Guaranteed Rate Field traffic with public transit CHICAGO (March 28, 2019) – With the home openers for the 2019 Chicago baseball season fast approaching, Metra reminds fans they can avoid traffic and the hassle of parking by making Metra and the CTA part of their plans to watch the Chicago White Sox or Chicago Cubs. “Make your trip to the ballpark a carefree one by letting Metra and the CTA do the driving this baseball season,” said CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “Public transportation is the most convenient, economical and reliable choice for both White Sox and Cubs fans.” Cubs Wrigley Field is located just a half block west of the Addison stop on the CTA Red Line. Fans headed to Wrigley Field from Chicago Union Station should walk six blocks east to the CTA Red Line (State Street Subway) or get to State Street by boarding CTA’s #126 Jackson bus, which boards on Jackson at the Chicago River, or the #151 Sheridan bus at the Union Station Transit Center at Jackson Boulevard between Clinton and Canal streets. Take Red Line trains going north (Howard-bound) to the Addison stop. From Ogilvie Transportation Center, walk six blocks east to State Street or board any CTA bus eastbound on Washington Street to the Red Line and take a Howard-bound train north to Addison. Metra’s UP Northwest Line customers can take CTA’s #80 Irving Park bus from Metra’s Irving Park Station east to Clark Street and walk south on Clark or take a southbound Clark #22 bus to Wrigley Field. Milwaukee District North Line riders can depart the train at the Grayland Station and walk south on Kilbourn to Addison, where they can take CTA’s #152 Addison bus east to the ballpark. Metra’s UP North Line customers can take the train to Evanston Davis Street, then walk one block east to the CTA Davis stop and board a Loop-bound Purple Line train, then transfer at Howard to a 95th- bound Red Line train to Addison. From Millennium or Van Buren stations, walk two blocks west to State Street to take a Howard- bound Red Line train to Addison. Rock Island Line customers can travel downtown to LaSalle Street Station, walk three blocks east to State Street and take the Red Line north to Addison. During weeknight games, Loop-bound (southbound) Purple Line Express trains will stop at Sheridan, where riders can either walk three blocks south on Sheridan/Sheffield to the ballpark from the station or transfer to a southbound Red Line train for the one stop to Addison. After the game, northbound riders can board Red Line trains at Addison or Sheridan and transfer at Howard to Purple Line trains to Evanston and Wilmette or Yellow Line trains to Skokie. Metra UP North Line riders can take the Purple Line from Howard to the Main Street or Davis Street stops and walk one block west to transfer to Metra. Fans can also use CTA’s #8 Halsted, #22 Clark or #152 Addison (connects to the Brown and Blue lines) to get to, or within a few blocks of, Wrigley Field. The CTA provides extra service on the #80 Irving Park and #152 Addison routes for all Cubs home games. White Sox Fans going to Guaranteed Rate Field along Metra’s Rock Island Line can get off at the 35thStreet/ “Lou” Jones Station, then it’s a short walk west on 35th Street to the ballpark. Guaranteed Rate Field is also located just a block west of the Sox-35th stop on the CTA Red Line and is also just three blocks west of the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stop on the CTA Green Line. From Chicago Union Station, Metra riders can walk five blocks east on Jackson Boulevard to LaSalle, then walk one block south to Van Buren to LaSalle Street Station and take a Rock Island Line train to the 35th Street/“Lou” Jones Station. Or, walk six blocks east to the CTA Red Line (State Street Subway) and take a 95th-bound train to the Sox/35th stop. From Ogilvie Transportation Center, walk five blocks east on Madison to LaSalle, then four blocks south to Van Buren; take a Rock Island Line train to the 35th Street/“Lou” Jones Station. Or, walk six blocks east to the CTA Red Line and take a 95th-bound train to the Sox-35th stop. Fans can also use CTA’s #1 Bronzeville/Union Station, #4 Cottage Grove, #24 Wentworth, #29 State, #35 35th (connects with Orange Line and Green Lines), #39 Pershing (connects with Orange Line and Green Lines) and #44 Wallace/Racine buses to get to, or within a few blocks of, the ballpark.
