Arman and his Jazz Mummies got together through Jam Jar, a jazz for young Hobart singers and musicians every 3rd Tuesday of the month at The Duke. This group has now played in several venues and festival around Hobart including the annual Hot August Jazz Festival in North Hobart. Front man of the band as well as lead-vocal is Arman Bratamidjaja with his bass-baritone crooning voice sings with influence from Frank Sinatra. Arman was born and bred in Bogor, Indonesia and moved to Hobart in July 2016 at the age of 18 to study at the University of Tasmania. Arman is accompanied by his Jazz Mummies, which are some astonishing young local musicians. Jesse Bowden produces some sophisticated licks on his saxophone. Jarrod Hunter on guitar, Eric Amani on bass and Josh Cannan on drums create a strong rhythm section for the band as well as stunning improvisations/solos. After approximately 28 years of founding & leading Dixieland Express, it's time to "pull the pin" on what has been a most enjoyable & successful experiment.

"The Express" was formed in Feb of 1990 as support Memories act for the famous Dutch Swing College Band concert at Wrest Point. Although there have been many changes of personnel over that period, the group has always delivered a high standard of jazz at it's many events, including statewide festivals and mainland events.

The line up for this special occasion is: Clem Meehan Trumpet/Vocals Paul Martin Reeds John Broadby Piano Cheers Ken Martin Bass/Vocals Clem Eric Johnson Drums. 4

Jazz around Hobart This is our major fundraiser for Hot August Jazz 2018. Our Jazz around Hobart Calendar shows some venues, local iconic locaons and musicians in the Hobart Area. Many thanks to the Clarence City Council for their generous sponsorship of the Calendar; this just shows their incredible support for Tasmanian Jazz. We would also like to thank our Photographer Sarah Walker from Paper Lantern Photography for running around all over the place taking photos of the musicians, Wrest Point Casino and of course the calendar parcipants. Vale Peter Voss 5/8/41– 4/9/17 (by Veronica Lyons) Born in Hobart Peter attended Glenorchy Primary and Hobart High School.

He became a French teacher, teaching at Oatlands High School and spending time in Canada before returning to Australia and living on a small farm at Murrum- bateman, near Canberra.

In 1982 the family moved to Tasmania and Peter became a teacher at Scotch Oakburn College, teaching French, German and Indonesian. He took biennial trips to France with his students. He also produced, and took photos for, the school Pictured—Peter playing at the Lufra magazine and was coach of the school soccer team. Music was always important with his interest starting when, as a young boy, he saw the Salvation Army band and followed them around the streets of Hobart. He played tenor sax and vibraphone as well as piano. He played on three albums with his ACT band, The Fortified Few and on returning to Tasmania played with the Jazzmanians. He attended many Suncoast Jazz Festivals, and played for the LJC from 1989. He was very involved with the Red Cross, the Cancer Council and Relay For Life and Médécin Sans Frontières, and a passionate supporter of Haw- thorn Football Club. A service was held on 14 September 2017 at the Penquite War Service Memorial Chapel at Scotch Oakburn College, Launceston. At the end of the service Peter’s friends Bruce Gourlay, Elvern King, Paul Furniss, John Pearce and Bruce Innocent played a moving rendition of What A Differ- ence A Day Makes.

At the 4th Norfolk Plains Jazz Festival at Longford on a recent weekend a new award, the Peter Voss Memorial Award , was presented by Peter’s sister Helen and daughter Nelle to Nick Hart for 2016 and to Christine Bai- ley for 2017. The line up for Cope Street Parade will be Justin Fermino (sax/vocals), Aaron Flower (acoustic guitar/vocals), Ben Panucci (acoustic guitar/ vocals), Sam Dobson (double bass). This is the same line up that we en- joyed so much on Tuesday 24 November 2015. 18 7 23-27 Albert Rd Moonah
