Red Rose:— Newsletter Since my last report our ladies have played off the Embassy Gold Cup Lancashire qualifiers, singles and pairs. Although I was not able to be in attendance because of a B.D.O. meeting in London, I am very pleased to report that the competition was very well supported, and that the standard of play was excellent. The Lancashire representative in the singles will be Janet Fox, who beat Sue Corry, in what I am given to believe was a great final, and in the pairs, Pauline Grounds and Sandra Woof went on to beat Sardia Pendlebury and Joan Buckley in yet another well contested final. Well played ladies and best of luck when you represent the Red Rose County, later in the year at the All Counties Finals at Trentham Gardens. Those of you that were fortunate enough to be at our last home fixture against Merseyside saw what can only be described as an electrifying match, our players in all departments, men and ladies, were a credit to the county. The men and ladies of the match were Ronnie Baxter who beat the great man himself Eric Bristow in the mens 'A' match, and Denis Godley achieved the distinction for the second match running in the mens 'B' match. For the ladies our Sue was again the lady of the match in 'A' match and Joan Haines was also a second time winner for the 'B' team. I would like to make a special mention to Nicky Walton who won his first 5 games in the mens 'B' team this season to date. It is also a pleasure to welcome new players into the squad, but our recent selection from the averages is not really a stranger to county darts, as Derek Rotherham like Nicky Walton and Steve Coote, was a member of one of our youth teams, nice to have you with us Derek, and it is also nice to have one of the most popular guys in the sport back with us again, "Guitar an 'all", well done Tony. This weekend we welcome our very good friends from the capital, we expect a keen tussle with the host of top class players as London produce a fixture we look forward to every year both at home and when we occasionally play down in London, and as ever the fixture is important to both counties with the championship still very much in the balance. Enjoy your weekend of darts, both players and spectators from our own and our visiting County. See you tonight at the Chieftain — except Phil and Mick who will be with their friends at the Morecambe. County Players Please Note If for any reason County selected players cannot attend a County fixture, that player must send a letter to the Secretary before that person can be considered for selection in future County squads. It is good advise to state whether or not you would be available for RESULTS OF KATCB PLAYED BETWEEN LANCASHIRE GMC DARTS ORGANISATION AND MERSEYSIDE Or. 19/20 JANUARY 19?1 Winning LAICS. • Dr. Darts' Newsletter
1 DR. DARTS’ NEWSLETTER Issue 69 February 2016 Welcome to this latest issue of DDN. The last few months have taken its toll of at least three darting stalwarts here in the UK, Angus Ross (ex-Scotland international), Dave Opee (instrumental in forming the Gibraltar Darts Association) and George Rogers (the North of England News of the World divisional champion, 1985) so, once again, there is a tinge of sadness pervading this issue. This means that a number of items which I had planned to feature in this issue have had to be rescheduled. However, there’s lots more to report this month including a celebration of Trina Gulliver’s tenth ladies’ World Championship title, plus the search for photographic evidence of a unique darts and football event in rural Suffolk (England) back in 1962. OBITUARY – ANGUS ROSS It’s always sad to record the loss of a great darts player. This month DDN pays homage to Angus Ross, the well-known and very popular ex-Scotland International (pictured left) who passed away on 17th January. Jim MacNeil, who is currently undertaking research into the history of darts in Scotland, has provided the following obituary: The North of Scotland lost a true Highland gentleman this week as the news of Angus Ross’ passing filtered through to the darts fraternity. Angus was a former Scottish International darts player and took his darts playing ability to the highest level. Angus was born in 1953 and spent his formative years on the Auchentoul Estate where his father was a gamekeeper, an occupation that Angus would eventually follow in his father’s footsteps.
