    ANNUAL REPORT 2002 PROJECT SB-2 ASSESSING AND UTILIZING AGROBIODIVERSITY THROUGH BIOTECHNOLOGY CIAT October, 2002 Dedication This report is dedicated to the memories of our two fallen colleagues, Maria de Jesús (Chusa) Ginés and Verónica Mera, of late Coordinator and Social Scientist, respectively of the Cassava Biotechnology Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (CBN- LAC). The promising lives of these two highly respected and beloved scientists, wives and mothers were tragically cut short in the morning of Monday, 28 January 2002 when the aircraft they were aboard crashed into the Cumbal volcano in the Colombia – Ecuador border. They were on an official trip from their base in Quito, Ecuador, to the CIAT headquarters in Cali, Colombia. Chusa and Vero believed in and tirelessly championed the causes of the resource-poor farmers of the world. It is remarkable that they ultimately paid the supreme price while in active pursuit of the goal of ensuring that the voices of these farmers are heard in priority setting for cassava biotechnology research. Vasco1 Key words Abstract The present paper provides a monograph of Elaphoglossum subsect. Muscosa, a monophyletic group supported by molecular phylogenetic analyses. The monograph includes keys, full synonymy, descriptions, repre- ferns sentative specimens examined, an index to collectors’ names and numbers, illustrations, spore photomicrographs, floristics and distribution maps for all species. Morphologically, the subsection is recognized by scaly rhizomes, petioles and pteridophytes laminae, obtuse leaf apices, and spores that are about twice as long as in other species of Elaphoglossum. Fifteen taxonomy species of subsect. Muscosa are here recognized, with no subspecies or varieties. All of the species are Neotropical occurring from southern Mexico to Bolivia and Southeastern Brazil, with three species in the West Indies. Most of the species occur in the Andes from 1500–4000 m, primarily in cloud forests and páramos. Three new species are described: E. novogranatense, E. oreophilum, and E. quisqueyanum. The name E. glabrescens A.Vasco, nom. & stat. nov. is proposed. Lectotypes are designated for E. aschersonii, E. bellermannianum, E. blandum, E. caulolepia, E. corderoanum, E. decipiens, E. ellipsoideum, E. engelii, E. gardnerianum, E. lehmannianum, E. muscosum, E. vis- cidulum, E. yarumalense, and E. yatesii. RESUMEN La recopilación documental de información histórica sobre la actividad de los volcanes Chiles (0°49’ N y 77°56’ W, 4.748 m.s.n.m.) y Cerro Negro (0°46’ N y 77° 57’ W, 4.470 m.s.n.m.), en la frontera colombo-ecuatoriana, permite interpretar que estos volcanes han presentado signos de actividad eruptiva menor, posiblemente desde épocas prehispánicas, ya que a inicios de la época de la colonia el Chiles era reconocido como volcán, a pesar de encontrarse en un ámbito geográfico aislado. Hacia la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, el volcán Chiles presentó una actividad fumarólica intensa, la cual pudo estar asociada a eventos eruptivos menores, ocurridos posiblemente entre 1860 y 1869, focalizados en el flanco sur del volcán; en este mismo período se reportan manifestaciones hidrotermales y fumarólicas incipientes al interior del anfiteatro del volcán Cerro Negro y posible actividad eruptiva hacia comienzos del siglo XX, mientras que la actividad fumarólica en Chiles para entonces había desaparecido. Entre 1923 y 1924, se registró una sismicidad significativa (incluyendo un evento de profundidad superficial y magnitud 6 en la escala de Richter) que en su momento fue asociada a erupciones del volcán Chiles.

Chile, 51: 37-48 (2016) Modelado Glaciar Heredado sobre áreas volcánicas activas, caso complejo volcánico Cumbal (Nariño – Colombia) Angela Portilla Erazo; Fernando Pizarro Jurado, [email protected] RESUMEN El presente documento muestra los resultados de una caracterización geomorfológica realizada en el complejo volcánico Cumbal (Nariño - Colombia) mediante la cual se logró identificar, sobre dos estructuras volcánicas (una activa y otra en estado de caldera), los procesos geomorfológicos de la abrasión glaciar y su interacción con algunos fenómenos vulcanológicos. Con el fin de identificar las geoformas resultantes de los procesos glaciares y volcánicos se realizó un trabajo de fotointerpretación sobre aerofotografías del IGAC acompañado de levantamiento y verificación en campo e información geológica, tipos de suelos y de cobertura de la tierra, que son variables que condicionan la morfodinámica en la zona, para finalmente obtener cartografía geomorfológica a escala 1:25000. Como resultado de la caracterización, se tiene, que los principales procesos morfogénicos del área de estudio corresponden a la interacción en diferentes periodos de la actividad volcánica de carácter explosivo, lo cual, se representa en la existencia de extensos flujos de lavas en la parte alta, y procesos crionivales y de abrasión glaciar asociada a un periodo frio cuyo estadio pleniglacial data desde hace 35.000 AP, donde se pueden identificar valles glaciares desde los 3800 m.s.n.m. y lahares que rellenan colinas formadas por flujos piroclásticos

Procuraduría Delegada para Asuntos Ambientales La Procuraduría General de la Nación, en el marco de la función preventiva y de control de gestión que le compe- te, en desarrollo de directrices constitucionales y legales (C.P., Articulo 277 y Decreto 262 de 2000), a través del presente trabajo logra analizar y evaluar la gestión del Mi- nisterio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible (MADS), en materia del cuidado, protección y preservación del eco- sistema de páramo; de igual manera, evidencia el traba- jo de las corporaciones autónomas regionales, frente al cumplimiento de múltiples actos administrativos expedi- dos por el gobierno nacional, de cara a la conservación de éste importante bioma para la nación. Aunado a lo descrito en líneas precedentes, el Ministerio Público identifica en el presente documento el estado am- biental, social y ecosistémico de los páramos en el país; y, a su vez, evidencia el estado de las reservas de carácter en Colombia losde páramos regional presentes en dicho ecosistema que han sido de- claradas con la mencionada condición, por las corpora- ciones autónomas regionales. Finalmente, evalúa el cumplimiento y gestión del Decreto 0953 de 2013, por parte de las alcaldías municipales con presencia de páramo en su jurisdicción. A taxonomic revision of Festuca L. for the South American paramos of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, northern Peru, and Venezuela is given. Fifty-six species and six subspecies of Festuca are recognized in the study area. Fifty-three species are native to the flora region and three are introduced and cultivated. Keys for determining the species, a classification, synonymies, descriptions, leaf anatomical descriptions, observations, distribution and habitat, specimens examined, illustrations, and leaf surface micrographs are provided. One species: F. turimiqui- rensis Stancik & P.M. Peterson, and one subspecies: F. tolucensis subsp. culata Stancik & P.M. Peterson, are newly described. The following three names were lectotypified: Bromus caldasii Kunth [=Festuca caldasii (Kunth) Kunth], Festuca fratercula Rupr. ex E. Fourn. (=Festuca amplissima Rupr. subsp. amplissima), and Festuca ovina subvar. jamesonii St.-Yves (=Festuca glumosa Hack, ex E.B. Alexeev).
