Early Triassic marine fishes and reptiles Fish nodule therefore are key proxies in reconstructing the ecosystem recovery process after the end-Permian mass extinc- Redox condition tion. In South China, the Early Triassic Jurong fish fauna is the earliest marine vertebrate assemblage inthe Ecosystem recovery period. It is constrained as mid-late Smithian in age based on both conodont biostratigraphy and carbon Taphonomy isotopic correlations. The Jurong fishes are all preserved in calcareous nodules embedded in black shaleofthe Lower Triassic Lower Qinglong Formation, and the fauna comprises at least three genera of Paraseminotidae and Perleididae. The phosphatic fish bodies often show exceptionally preserved interior structures, including net- work structures of possible organ walls and cartilages. Microanalysis reveals the well-preserved micro-structures (i.e. collagen layers) of teleost scales and fish fins. -

The possible rela- tionships of the chordates and deuterostomes to other metazoans are dis- cussed in Halanych (2004). He restricts the taxon of deuterostomes to the chordates and their proposed immediate sister group, a taxon comprising the hemichordates, echinoderms, and the wormlike Xenoturbella. The phylum Chordata has been used by most recent workers to encompass members of the subphyla Urochordata (tunicates or sea-squirts), Cephalochordata (lancelets), and Craniata (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals). The Cephalochordata and Craniata form a mono- phyletic group (e.g., Cameron et al., 2000; Halanych, 2004). Much disagree- ment exists concerning the interrelationships and classification of the Chordata, and the inclusion of the urochordates as sister to the cephalochor- dates and craniates is not as broadly held as the sister-group relationship of cephalochordates and craniates (Halanych, 2004). Many excitingCOPYRIGHTED fossil finds in recent years MATERIAL reveal what the first fishes may have looked like, and these finds push the fossil record of fishes back into the early Cambrian, far further back than previously known. There is still much difference of opinion on the phylogenetic position of these new Cambrian species, and many new discoveries and changes in early fish systematics may be expected over the next decade. As noted by Halanych (2004), D.-G. (D.) Shu and collaborators have discovered fossil ascidians (e.g., Cheungkongella), cephalochordate-like yunnanozoans (Haikouella and Yunnanozoon), and jaw- less craniates (Myllokunmingia, and its junior synonym Haikouichthys) over the 15 06_250317 part1-3.qxd 12/13/05 7:32 PM Page 16 16 Fishes of the World last few years that push the origins of these three major taxa at least into the Lower Cambrian (approximately 530–540 million years ago). -
Evolution from Alluvial Fan to Fluvial System Environments and Accompanying Tectonic and Climatic Controls in the Southeast Iberian Ranges, Central Spain
The Upper Permian Boniches Conglomerates Formation: evolution from alluvial fan to fluvial system environments and accompanying tectonic and climatic controls in the southeast Iberian Ranges, central Spain Jose L6pez-G6mez *, Alfredo Arche Instituto de Geologia Economica, CSIC-UCM, Facultad de Geologia, Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain 28040 Abstract The Boniches Conglomerates Fm. (Upper Permian) represents the first episode of sedimentation in the southeast border margin of the Iberian Basin, central Spain. The Iberian Basin commenced development as a rift basin running mainly NW-SE during the Early Permian and underwent its first general extensional period during the Late Permian. The Boniches Fm. was deposited as a small segment (less than 100 km long and 9-10 km wide) of the Iberian Basin that extended in a northeast direction during this period. Detailed mapping and palaeocurrent analysis have shown that the Boniches Fm. is of a curvilinear, wedge-shaped morphology. Sediments close to the southwest main faulted border are of a maximum thickness of 230 m. Clear lateral variation in thickness controlled by the activity of secondary transfer faults perpendicular to the main NW-SE axis may be observed. This network of faults permitted the formation of blocks, limited laterally by the transfer faults. These blocks experienced subsidence and rotation against the elevated southwest footwall block which resulted in the isolation of reduced sub-basins with different sedimentary characteristics. Based on facies and facies association, the Boniches Fm. is thought to have evolved vertically from two main alluvial fan systems in the lowest part of the formation, into fluvial braided systems flowing southeast. -

The transgression flooded wide areas of the Palaeocurrents eastern part of Iberia, forming new epicontinental shallow-marine environments, which were subsequently Anisian colonized by diverse faunas, including chondrichthyans. The transgression is recorded by two successive Ladinian transgressive–regressive cycles: (1) middle–late Anisian and (2) late Anisian–early Carnian. Here, we describe Coastal chondrichthyans the chondrichthyan fauna recovered from several Middle Triassic stratigraphic sections (Pelsonian- Longobardian) located at the Catalan Coastal Basin (western-most Tethys). The assemblage consists of isolated teeth of the species Hybodus plicatilis, Omanoselache bucheri, O. contrarius and Pseudodalatias henarejensis. Our data complement a series of recent studies on chondrichthyan faunas from Middle-Late Triassic marine basins of the Iberian Peninsula, allowing us to evaluate patterns of faunal colonization. -

Últimas semanas para realizar la adaptación 78 MUNICIPIOS DE CUENCA TIENEN TRES SEMANAS PARA ADAPTAR LAS ANTENAS COLECTIVAS DE TDT • El próximo 13 de febrero algunos canales de TDT dejarán de emitir en sus antiguas frecuencias en 78 municipios conquenses debido al Segundo Dividendo Digital. Todavía existen edificios comunitarios de la provincia que aún no han realizado las adaptaciones necesarias para seguir disfrutando de la oferta completa de TDT a partir de esta fecha. • El pasado lunes 20 de enero comenzó el cambio de frecuencias en otros 21 municipios de la provincia • Los administradores de fincas o presidentes de comunidades de propietarios deben contactar lo antes posible con una empresa instaladora registrada. • Además, a partir del 13 de febrero, todos los ciudadanos de estos 78 municipios de Cuenca deberán resintonizar el televisor con su mando a distancia. • Toda la información sobre el cambio de frecuencias de la TDT está disponible en la página web www.televisiondigital.es y a través de los números de atención telefónica 901 20 10 04 y 91 088 98 79. A partir del próximo 13 de febrero, algunos canales estatales y autonómicos dejarán de emitir a través de sus antiguas frecuencias en 78 municipios de Cuenca. Por otro lado, en otros 21 municipios la emisión en las frecuencias nueva y antigua comenzó el pasado lunes 20 de enero y el pasado 14 de noviembre de 2019 lo hizo en otros 45. En sus edificios comunitarios de tamaño mediano y grande en los que sea necesario adaptar la instalación de antena colectiva y aún no se haya realizado, es necesario realizar este ajuste para poder seguir viendo los canales en las nuevas frecuencias destinadas para ellos. -
Chondrichthyan Teeth from the Early Triassic Paris Biota (Bear Lake County, Idaho, USA)

This assemblage has been coined the Paris Biota. Dated earliest Spathian (i.e., early late Olenekian), the Paris Biota provides further evidence that the biotic recovery from the end-Permian mass extinction was well underway ca. 1.3 million years after the event. This assemblage includes mainly invertebrates, but also vertebrate remains such as ichthyoliths (isolated skeletal remains of fishes). Here we describe first fossils of Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fishes) from the Paris Biota. The material is composed of isolated teeth (mostly grinding teeth) preserved on two slabs and representing two distinct taxa. Due to incomplete preservation and morphological differences to known taxa, the chondrichthyans from the Paris Biota are provisionally kept in open nomenclature, as Hybodontiformes gen. et sp. indet. A and Hybodontiformes gen. et sp. indet. B, respectively. The present study adds a new occurrence to the chondrichthyan fossil record of the marine Early Triassic western USA Basin, from where other isolated teeth (Omanoselache, other Hybodontiformes) as well as fin spines of Nemacanthus (Neoselachii) and Pyknotylacanthus (Ctenachanthoidea) and denticles have been described previously.
