Life often presents us with obstacles that interfere with our goals. It can be challenging to step back and adjust our thinking. So, how can you have a, "do what you can" approach amid adversity? Here are a few strategies:

1. Grant yourself the compassion and understanding you would extend to a friend or family member. We are often our own worst critics. 2. Give yourself permission to feel proud of small victories. 3. Acknowledge negative self-talk & replace them with neutral or positive statements. Instead of saying "I'm not prepared for this test. It's going to be too hard." Try and say, "I'm going to focus and do my best." 4. Accept there are things you can’t control. 5. Stop letting excuses steal your life. 6. Keep going and don’t let anything stop you. Do what you can!

And remember,

The Social Work Department will meet you where you are at. Reach out, we are here for you. https://www.oths.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=758
