Veleko frames her confident subjects against arresting cityscapes—the strong June 15 July 1 colors of an advertisement, or the grid of a tiled wall. Her portraits are named for the youth who agree to serve as subjects for Veleko’s roving camera. The photographs embrace the slick conventions of fashion magazines but also foreground the sitter’s individuality as expressed through his or her interpretation of street style. Under Full page (7.5”w x 9.5”l) $850 apartheid, black citizens were forced to carry an identifying photograph in a dompass, a document used to restrict black South Africans to specific spaces in urban areas and bar them from others. Veleko’s images of confident Half page horizontal (7.5”w x 4.75”l) $655 youth posed throughout the city subvert previous uses of the photograph to fix identity within narrow racial frames. Her portraits showcase the possibilities of self-definition and self-expression in South Africa today, and highlight the ever-shifting public discourse surrounding the future of the nation. Online banner now also available: $500 per month Veleko trained in graphic design before joining David Goldblatt’s Market Photography Workshop in Johannesburg. She has received national awards and inclusion in prestigious international shows, such as the 2006 exhibition Snap Judgments, curated by Okwui Enwezor at the International Center of Photography in New York, the 7th Recontres Africaines de la Photographie exhibition – Bamako 2007 and 2009, and the Armory Show in 2009. Most recently, she held a solo exhibition Welcome to Paradise curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose for Casa Africa, Las Palmas, Spain. Veleko is represented by Goodman Gallery in Cape Town. (“EGP”) closed the sale to power company Atlantica Yield of its fully-owned subsidiary Enel Green Power Uruguay S.A. (“EGP Uruguay”), which owns through its project company Estrellada S.A. the 50 MW Melowind wind farm located in Cerro Largo, around 320 km away from Montevideo. EGP has sold its subsidiary in Uruguay for around 120 million US dollars, equal to the company’s Enterprise Value. The transaction is part of the disposal programme of non-core assets provided for in the Enel Group’s active portfolio management plan. This strategy allows for the reallocation of resources to areas with a greater growth margin and potential for the Group. The Melowind farm sells its electricity output to the state-owned power company UTE (Administración Nacional de Usinas y Trasmisiones Eléctricas), which manages the transmission, distribution and sale of electricity in Uruguay, under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). Atlantica Yield plc owns a diversified portfolio of contracted renewable energy, efficient natural gas, electric transmission and water assets in North and South America, and certain markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

There has been a proliferation of contemporary art biennials in the past 20 years, especially in cities outside of North America and Europe. What biennials represent to their host cities and what is represented at these events reveal a great deal about the significance of this proliferation. The biennial platform entails formalistic notions of representation with regards to place branding or the selection of artists as emissaries of countries where they were been born, reside, or to which they have some kind of affinity. This notion of representation is obscured considering the instability of center and periphery, artists’ biographies, practices, and references. In contradistinction to the colonial world fair, the biennial thwarts the notion or possibility of “authentic” representation. These and other principles constitute some of the cardinal goals of the programme in both public and private universities in Ghana. Considering tertiary education as both a public and private enterprise, this paper seeks to enrich the discourse on African Studies by taking a retrospection of the subject and investigated university students’ perceptions of the discipline among public and privately funded spheres. Adopting a qualitative approach, the paper interviewed students on the relevance of the discipline in a contemporary information technology driven world. The outcome of such interrogation was that African Studies is even more relevant in the era of globalization than it might have been in immediate post independent Africa.

    REPUBLIC OF SENEGAL Ministry of Culture and Communication Biennial of contemporary african Art CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF THE FOURTEENTH EDITION OF THE BIENNIAL OF DAKAR DAK’ART JUNE-JULY 2020 ARTISTIC PARTICIPATION ARRANGEMENTS The international Exhibition of the fourteenth edition of the Biennial of contemporary african Art is open only to african artists and the diaspora. Candidates must submit a completed application form and the required documents, as described below, on USB flash drive to be sent by e-mail to [email protected] and by post before September 15th 2019 to the General Secretariat of the Biennial of Dakar, located at 19 avenue Hassan II 1st Floor. BP: 3865. Dakar Senegal. This file must include: 1. The completed application form; 2. A biography of up to 15 lines in English and French; 3. A detailed curriculum vita; 4. Two recent high-resolution pictures; 5. A scanned copy of the valid passport until 31st December 2020 6. Five high-definition reproductions (300 dpi for 30×50 cm) of works dating from October 2018 (artist’s property) on paper or digital (photographs, DVDs, CDs). The name of the photographer is required, as is the date of creation; 7. a text presenting the works and their technical data (references of the parts, title of the work, dimensions, materials, value of the work and insurance, addresses of places of origin and delivery of works at the end of The biennial 2020); 8. Articles in art papers and critical texts on the artist’s work, one or more expert testimonials recognized (optional).
