Iron Maiden NIKAD ne bi bili ovoliko veliki da nema vjernih fanova koji su spremni provesti mjesece i godine istražiujući sve segmente povijesti ovog nevjerojatnog benda. Kao autor, neizmjerno im se SVIMA zahvaljujem jer su mi veoma olakšali pronalazak nekih faktova, činjenica, starih intervjua, izgubljenih fotografija i ostalih sitnica koje su dio ove knjige. Međutim, knjiga 'Somewhere in Time' nije, niti joj je inicijalna namjera bila postati tiskani dokument koji bi objedinio svo to more trivia i dragocjenih podataka. Na kraju krajeva, tada knjigu niti ne bih mogao, ni htio nazvati autorskom knjigom. Ova knjiga je niz ekskluzivnih zapažanja, povezivanja činjenica, hrabrih špekulacija i pronicanja u najskrivenije tajne i motive vezane uz rad na albumu Maidena 'Somewhere in Time', koji je sagledan sa svih gledišta, gdje su probrani svi segmenti koji su mogli utjecati na nastanak albuma. Nakon povijesnog odmaka od trideset godina 'Somewhere In Time' album ja sam pokušao vrjednovati hladne glave na pravi način kako to zaslužuje, sa istaknutim svim vrlinama i manama. U knjizi ćete pronaći veliki broj novopostavljenih i nikad do sad navedenih teza, ponekad i šokantnih zaključaka, a neke trideset godina stare zagonetke po prvi puta biti će otkrivene. Uvjeren sam da će knjiga otvoriti mnoge diskusije i polemike, koje će možebitno uključivati i opovrgavanje dijela napisanog u ovoj knjizi, no moj odgovor na to je jednostavan. Ja sam fan, ovaj album doživljavam onako kako sam ga doživio u ovoj knjizi. Ovo je moja posveta njemu, jer me je upravo on uveo u svijet Iron Maidena, bez kojih bi moj život bio dramatično drugačiji. Sretan ti trideseti rođendan 'Somewhere In Time'! STJEPAN JURAS SOMEWHERE IN ME Mnogi autori knjiga o raznim bendovima i izvođačima nastoje da njihovi kupci, ako u rukama već ne drže službeni produkt, barem pomisle da čitaju nešto najbliže službenom. Vještim PR manevrima pokušavaju ih zavesti i navesti da misle kako upravo oni imaju jako ekskluzivne i nikad viđene materijale, duboko insajderske sugovornike koji će to temelja protresti sve ono što su oni do sad mislili da znaju o svom omiljenom bendu ili izvođaču. Ovo je zapravo knjiga o albumu, da o albumu, koji je već daleke 1986., prije trideset godina meni kao desetogodišnjem dječaku otvorio novu dimenziju svemira i mašte i vremenskim strojem me odveo na putovanje koje se nikada neće završiti. Ovo je također priča o albumu otpadniku, crnoj ovci ili kopiletu, kojeg Iron Maiden, njegovi tvorci, nikada nisu tretirali onako kako zaslužuje. Dugo sam godina čekao, davao im sve moguće kredite, s nestrpljenjem očekivao 'history' turneje, no danas, 30 godina nakon što je album izdan polako sam počeo gubiti nadu da će on ikada više imati priliku biti napokon u pravom svjetlu predstavljen brojnim fanovima koji već desetljećima čekaju da se čudo ipak dogodi. Stoga je ova moja knjiga vapaj Maidenima da se prisjete kakav dragulj su ostavili u prašini i samo zahvaljujući vlastitim taštinama dopustili da ga prekrije sloj zaborava. Dragi Iron Maiden, album 'Somewhere in Time' vi ste možda doista zaboravili, ali ima nas nekoliko milijuna koji nismo. Nas nekoliko milijuna koji smo ga kupili, koji ga obožavamo, koji smo kolekcionirali sve dostupne artikle i koji u bezbrojnim peticijama tražimo da uživo svirate više pjesama s tog albuma. Upravo iz toga razloga, s ponosom ustvrđujem: Ne, ova knjiga nije službena, niti to ima namjeru biti, ne sadrži ekskluzivne insajderske informacije i sugovornike, al jednako tako ne pokušava niti na jedno mjesto sakupiti sve informacije dostupne na Wikipediji i različitim Maidenima posvećenim web stranicama. Knjiga nije pisana enciklopedijski, ni faktički ni statistički i ne pokušava donijeti spisak svih koncerata, bootlega, različitih izdanja albuma, diskografskih nagrada, tadašnjih intervjua i svega za što sam siguran da već ionako znate. Ova je knjiga otkinuti dio moje duše, moj vrisak Maidenima… 29.09. 2016. se bliži. Učinite nešto! Ovo je zadnja šansa! To the fans by a fan BEHIND THE IRON SECRETS Povijest grupe Iron Maiden, složiti će se mnogi fanovi, pogtovo oni koji ih prate dulje vrijeme, obiluje mnogim intrigama i genijalnim zagonetkama koje su ponekad toliko nevjerojatne da graniče s teorijama zavjere. Nikada mi nije bilo potpuno jasno tko iza njih stoji, jer su kodirane poruke, šifrirane ilustracije ili koncertne najave, anagrami, poruke ispisane hijeroglifima i mnoge druge tajanstvene zagonetke osmišljene i realizirane na brilijantne načine. Ponekad su sročene tako da ih nitko ni ne primjeti, nego nekom sine ideja mnogo godina kasnije, kad zapravo sve prođe, dok su neke zagonetke namjerno prenaglašene, kako bi odmah svi shvatili da nam bend nešto pokušava reći i kako bi nagnali na stotine tisuća fanova da započnu potragu za pravim značenjem. Stoji li iza njih prepredeni i jako inteligentni Bruce Dickinson, teško je reći, jer i u vrijeme kada on nije bio u bendu šifrirane poruke su se i dalje pojavljivale, a bilo ih je i prije njegovog dolaska u bend. Je li to možda Steve Harris? Je li on doista toliko 'ufilman' u svijet Maidena, da po cijele dane smišlja na koji način 'tease-ati' fanove i šifiriranim porukama im skretati pažnju na nove poteze i projekte benda? Možda ga čak i mogu zamisliti kako večerima sjedi uz kompjuter surfajući po službenom Maiden Fan Club forumu, kako bi dobio ideju za neku novu spačku. Nije li to ipak Rod Smallwood, čovjek koji vuče mnoge konce Maidena, skupa sa Andy Taylorom i svojim PR timom? On je jedini koji zapravo uz Stevea i može i ima ovlasti to raditi, a i vrijeme je pokazalo kako je, osim što je iskusni i uvaženi manager, zapravo još uvijek kao malo zaigrano dijete i kako, prije svega, on u ovome svemu što radi zapravo uživa, a to mu je usput i posao… Sjetimo se koliko se glavi 'razbijalo'da se odgonetne značenje tajanstvene biografije Benjamina Breega, kao i pravi identitet te osobe ili kako su ljudi polemizirali oko naslovne strane FC magazina 99.5 i 'UROTON' poruke. Sjetimo se također šifrirane poruke kojom je Bruce uživo, čak punih godinu dana prije tog događaja najavio headlinerski nastup Maidena na 'Monsters Of Rock' festivalu 1988. Oni, ne samo da su tad već sve dogovorili s promoterom, nego su već i znali da u rukama imaju 'killer' album, koji će 'pokoriti' cijeli metal svijet.

Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

    Iron Maiden – Live After Death DVD Review By Michael Makuch 3/9/08 I just purchased a blast from the past in the form of Iron Maiden’s “Live After Death” DVD. For the first time in over 20 years this live show documents Maiden’s seminal Powerslave Tour. I used to have a VHS copy many years ago and I haven’t seen the show for many years so it is a treat to be able to own this treasure of a concert film in a high quality DVD format. In fact, this is the first time this concert has been available in any format since it was originally released in the mid 80’s. “Live After Death” is a 2 DVD set and is affordably priced at around $15. The first disc is the original concert while disc 2 contains documentaries, rare live footage, a picture gallery and two promo videos from the Powerslave album. The set beautifully reproduces the graphics and contains a decent booklet, which is a rarity in most DVD packages. We’ve all come a long way from the time I found a busted cassette of “Live After Death” (no doubt tossed from a car in a fit of disgust with regard to the thin tape used in ‘double length’ single cassettes and their ability to bind easily with in-dash cassette players), that needed some reconstructive work that required a risky tape transplant to another tape body and razor sharp splicing to resurrect the music contained therein, to the point where I now possess said concert on CD audio and, now, DVD video formats I couldn’t have conceived of in the old days! The music itself, of course, is timeless.
