The FCI classification is found at http://www.fci.be/nomenclature.aspx, and at the top level is: Group 1 Sheepdogs and Cattle Dogs (except Swiss Cattle Dogs) Group 2 Pinscher and Schnauzer - Molossoid Breeds - Swiss Mountain and Cattle Dogs Group 3 Terriers Group 4 Dachshunds Group 5 Spitz and Primitive types Group 6 Scenthounds and Related Breeds Group 7 Pointing Dogs Group 8 Retrievers - Flushing Dogs - Water Dogs Group 9 Companion and Toy Dogs Group 10 Sighthounds 1 The American Kennel Club (AKC) arrangement, followed by Dewey, is very different at the top level: Sporting Group 636.752 Hound Group 636.753 Working Group 636.73 Terrier Group 636.755 Toy Group 636.76 Non-Sporting Group 636.72 Herding Group 636.737 Miscellaneous Class (breeds which have not yet been put into the other groups) (The order given here is that on the AKC’s webpage, http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds ) The situation is made more complex because 636.72-636.76 contain several references to breeds as “(United Kingdom)” as a shortcut for saying that this group is one of the groupings of the Kennel Club of the United Kingdom (KC).

Why seek to control populations of foxes, deer, hares, and mink in England and Wales? · A number of interest groups seek to control populations of foxes, deer, hares and mink for various, and often for several, reasons, summarised in Chapter 2. These reasons should be considered in the context of: ¨ An often ambivalent attitude to the species and its control. ¨ The general lack of a simple relationship between damage and abundance. ¨ Differences between perceived and actual damage sustained. · Foxes are widely controlled because they are perceived to kill livestock (lambs, poultry and piglets), game (including hares) and other ground-nesting birds. ¨ Fox predation on livestock is usually low level, but widespread and sometimes locally significant. Evidence is strong that fox predation has a significant impact on wild game populations, but less so for other ground-nesting birds.

NO ALCOHOL ON THE SHOW GROUNDS External defibrillator (AED) will be on the grounds at the superintendents table SMOKING/FIRES: The wildfires in Santiago Canyon were devastating. For that reason, we ask you to be especially careful with smoking in the park and surrounding areas. No smoking is allowed under the club tents. We request you extinguish and dispose of all cigarettes carefully. RV PARKING: All outdoor cooking (BBQs and hibachis) must be set up in cleared areas only. They must be attended at all times, and completely extinguished following usage. WILDLIFE: We want to remind you we will be in an area full of various types of wildlife. Please plan accordingly. Do not leave dogs unattended in x-pens in either parking lot, or leave food outside your vehicle. POP-UP TENTS: No main grooming tent will be available. There are plenty of tree shaded areas on the perimeter of the park. We recommend all exhibitors bring Pop-Up Tents. There will be designated areas for setup. Mats will be allowed on the grass at this park.

    Can I Show My Dog in AKC Conformation Events?

    Can I show my dog in AKC conformation events? Dog shows can be confusing to the average dog owner, but still many people are interested in learning how to join this unique world. Watching dog shows and competitions on television can be entertaining, and some dog owners wonder if they and their favorite canine could join in the activity and perhaps someday end up famous. The types and numbers of dog competitions are growing and the barriers to entry are low, but depending on which sector you choose to compete in, the barriers to success can be high. The Breed Standard Defines Show Dog Perfection Every dog is beautiful in its own way, whether that be its health, personality, coloring or the lay of its coat. If you want to show your dog at AKC events, you have to accept your breed’s Parent Club’s definition of perfection, which is written down in a breed standard that is recorded with the AKC. Each breed standard is unique and meant to reflect the breed’s original function, whether that be a working heritage like hunting or herding or simply as a personal companion. Breed standards are the same in that they all will mention the same elements, including movement, coat, and head shape, but they also differ in that something that is extremely important in one breed standard many be of minimal or no importance to another.
