For 2010, the strategy was to try to get some involvement from St. John Church Parish because in 2009, we had been approached to donate some hams and fresh fruit to needy families from that area. The feeling was that the one jambalaya that was usually cooked may not have been enough, so the CEO called in Uncle Jim Bullion and white bean specialist, Pete Robbins from that area, which turned out to be another brilliant and strategic move. Also, major contributors were encouraged to either write their checks to St. Theresa or to St.John Food Banks. As more prople heard about the event, more people volunteered and donated and 2010 raised a record breaking $10,565.00 In 2011retired school board member, Steve Broussard joined BAMA and brought some support from the Gators side of Airline Highway. The total amount raised exceted all expectations and a magniciant amount of $16,465 supported our needy families. This year 2012 raised a landmark amount of $20,105.00.

Ray verifies the same crevasse flood in the 1920’s as White Mule Brown. Trying to make a point about flooding today, Ray explains that while all the fields were flooded then, not one house went under water. His reasoning is “that generation knew how and where or where not to build a house”. He also gives credence to Ms. Essie’s remembrance to her parents being buried on Shell Beach. Ray recalls visiting the graveyard there as a youth that has since disappeared without a trace, eroded by storms and time. He says one of those proposals uses the Hwy 63 road for the loop and would cross the Amite River and continue to Whitehall and beyond. Clay wishes Murphy “White Mule” Brown, Ms. Essie Penabler and Ms. Dupuy could live to see it. Clay also fondly remembers his grandfather, a game warden for the state Wildlife & Fisheries, Harold “Pocahontas” Schexnayder, relating to his clan at family outings about his utilizing the old railroad right away when he ventured into the massive swamps to catch some of the many poachers and illegal hunters of the day. The rail lines also made stand rows for the hundreds of legal hunting clubs that operated and still hunt in those swamps for the last 100 years. Twas the night before Christmas & all through the house. Many creatures were stirring, even a mouse! The termites they dine in walls oh so snug. Ants and roaches nestled...even bed bugs! The stockings were hung where the spiders do pass, and fire ants build castles in the tall grass.

The family so frightful and waiting for aid, to stop all the critters and nuisance they made. When what to their wondering eyes should appear, but a J&J’s truck approaching so near.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, From the bottom of the porch! to the top of the wall! under the stairs...he covered it all. ‘Dash away... dash away bugs’ he exclaimed and give this family only peace to remain.

His eyes how they twinkled when all bugs were gone and told the new family his work he had done. No need to worry he said with a smile, you’ll be in good hands, J&J goes the extra mile.

And I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Holidays to all, and to all a bug free night."

The Best of 2012 & Resolutions for 2013

Can you believe it. Another year has come and gone. At this time I like to reflect on the highlights of 2012 and maybe make a resolution or two. 2. It’s not about common sense. Since I own the winning house and created this award. I made up the rules. So take it or 1 leave it. I just wanted it. Ringing in the Congratulations Lorne and Pam for having the best house New Year. but you got the big jip. Honorable Mention. I went out on New Years Eve to ring in the New Year. Met with some friends and was introduced to an attractive woman. I think she was giving me the cold shoulder. Instead of saying talk to the hand she said 2 talk to the hair. I asked if I could call her. She said, “Yes, When I’m Bald!”

2 You Better Say Yes! My son Michael asked and Jacquee said yes. It looks like a modern day shotgun wedding. Not the case, Just the bride-to- be and groomsmen with a cold feet remedy.

3 Little Prairie Home Wins Best Christmas Display 3 You might be thinking how in the world did the double- wide trailer win the Christmas Display Award over the modern well built house. Simple. I used the current political climate as the baromter for judgement. WINNER 1. Why should the best house win? HONORABLE MENTION

7 Bully’s New Year Resolution It is a New Year and I need a new cause. I thought I might consider the thoughts of environmentalist and help save the planet. Maybe I should take a second look at the climate of society and maybe take a reflective look at myself. I believe in nature and all she provides. The wonders of our

37 world are unlimited. The hori - zons are beautiful morning and afternoons. The nights and days sparkle and warm us. Why 7 wouldn’t I follow any environ - mental laws that are in place to protect Mother Earth. Why? You ask why? Because of enviro - mentalist. That’s Why. When common sense goes out the window you lose my attention to respect your cause. Let me explain. I spent some time in Colorado over the Holidays with my sister. One morning we drove to the airport at 6 in the morning and parked in the cell phone lot. This area is a parking lot designed for drivers to sit and wait for a cell phone call alerting them their guest has landed and pick me up in 20 minutes. This particular morning I accompanied my sister to the airport to retrieve holiday guest but needed to park in the cell phone lot. It was 28 degrees outside when we parked. The wind was howling and I was glad my sister’s modern car had heated seats. She then turned the car off. I mentioned to her that if you don’t run the heater we are going to freeze. She pointed out that the sign at the front of the car tells us to cut off the engine or she could be ticketed. There is a municipal code allowing cars to only idle for 5 minutes while sitting in cell phone lot. You got to be kidding me. People can freeze in this environment and they actually voted in and ordinance to save Mother Earth 5 minutes at a time. There is a word that comes to mine. Nuts. So I changed my New Year 8 resolution direction to be more environmentally friendly because I will not be a part of a movement that is down-right- dumb. I’m not going to be a sheep following a good message with a good cause tag line that is simply proganda. I then mentioned to my sister she had 4 minutes 54 seconds left of idling time before she became a criminal. Please crank the car.

8 I have a Smart, Smart Phone Last month I had the oppor - tunity to spends 5 days at the camp. It was a beautiful few days and cold. Just like I like it.

38 I love the crystal clear full moon nights. The temperatures in the 20’s and I’m enjoying the camp fire. I looked around 9 and noticed the family dog, Chipper, was missing. I started looking for him with the flash light and he was no where to be found outside. I went inside the camp and there he was. He was in my son’s bed. His head was on the pillow and under his covers. Now that is a smart dog. He’s in bed under the covers in 28 degree weather. I’m standing around freezing by a fire. I pulled out my smart phone to take a photo of him under the covers. I opened the camera app and my smart phone had a message across the of 17 million new texters on was on the radio as I was about the hussle and bussle of screen.
