2 Membership Committee

We welcome the following new residents into our neighborhood:

William Nguyen and Lan Tran - 56 Grand Canyon Drive Shandrika Williams - 60 Grand Canyon Drive Akram and Leena Elaiyan - 39 Yellowstone Drive Norbert and Krystal Henry - 4021 Lennox Boulevard

As Park Timbers Subdivision is a Covenant Protected Community, it is our responsibility to furnish all new residents with copy of our Covenants and Bylaws so they are aware of the guidelines which we adhere to. We, along with the help of our area Block Captains, keep up with those residents leaving and new ones moving in throughout the year. We also maintain a yearly Membership Directory for the exclusive use of our residents with various contact numbers, email addresses, employers, etc., thus we need to get new residents information for inclusion in the Directory. Earlier this year, the Board changed the date of issuance of the Directory from early in the year to April; however, that decision has been reversed. We now plan to get it out as early as possible after the first of the year. Once again, we request that you please check your entry in the 2013 book to verify all your information is correct.

REMINDER: ANY CHANGES, ADDITIONS, DELETIONS, ETC. YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IN THE DIRECTORY, PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL EITHER MYSELF, TREVA RAGLAND, OR DIANE HINGLE. THANK YOU! Treva Ragland at 392-9772 or [email protected] Diane Hingle at 391-0473 or [email protected]

Park Timbers Garden Club The Park Timbers Garden Club held their own internal food drive just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, delivering almost 200 items to the United Churches of Algiers.

Gardens of the month are:

Oct - Gerald and Noreen Duhon, 11 Park Timbers Drive

Nov - James Moore, 4007 Lennox Boulevard

The Park Timbers Garden Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month in members' homes at 10:00 a.m. We welcome all with an interest! While the focus of the Garden Club is Park Timbers, membership to interested nonresidents is welcome. For more information, call Donna Mercer at 433-1011.

3 Architectural Control Committee

Remember that the Covenants require that you obtain Architectural Control Committee approval prior to the work beginning. Unfortunately, not all projects are approved, and obtaining approval prior to work saves both you and the Board tine and money as projects that are not approved must be corrected.

If you are not sure if your project needs approval, you should check with the Architectural Control Committee before commencing your endeavor. That way you can be assured of compliance with the Covenants and By-laws.

Once your project is approved by the ACC, please exercise good neighbor “etiquette” and inform your neighbors of any project that you are undertaking (especially for big ones). This helps the Board in fielding complaints from neighbors!

Here are some examples of projects (but not limited to this list) that would need approval by the Architectural Committee:

1) Painting and changing any color on the outside of your house (including the trim, shutters, gutters, and garage doors), 2) Any additions to the structure (e.g. patios, walkways, storage sheds, pools), 3) Play houses/structures, swing sets, tree houses, 4) Gazebos, 5) Saunas and hot tubs, 6) Awnings and shutters, 7) Additions/conversions, 8) Fencing, balcony railings, 9) Doors (colors, associated framing and trim), 10) Driveway or sidewalk re-paves from “P” gravel (w/rocks) to smooth concrete, etc., 11) Solar power panels, 12) House-raising.

The Committee would like to receive requests at least 14 days before the commencement of your project. Most often the approval time is much shorter, but the extra time may allow for additional review or discussion, if needed.

Direct all Architectural Control approval requests to Scott Saremba at 22 Yosemite Drive, by email at [email protected], after 2/28/2014 [email protected], or by phone at 912- 0724 or to Yvette Ponthier at 30 Yosemite Drive, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 393-2730. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Committee would like to thank all residents that sent in their project plans before the commencement of their work. Your compliance with our Constitution and By-Laws is very much appreciated.

Also, as the newly elected Chair of the Architectural Control Committee, I would like to extend a thanks to Karen Lodrig who chaired the ACC for two years and has moved to the Gentily Area. Thankfully Yvette continues to serve on the Committee, and her guidance and assistance if very much appreciated as I learn the ins and outs of the position.

Good Luck with all of your home projects! Scott P. Saremba 4

PTHA Security Report

Unfortunately, at the end of December, during the holiday season, Park Timbers residents saw several car break-ins and one car theft. The car theft occurred in the evening on December 26 on Yellowstone. The resident’s car was stolen out of her driveway. Three other incidents occurred on December 29, wherein those cars were rifled through, but no theft of the car or personal belongings was noted. Two of the cars were park in the driveway along side the back of the homes. The police have been notified, and the Security Chairman is attempting to meet with the NOPD regarding the incidents. If you have any information that can assist, please call the Security Chairman, Mort Kelly, at 394-9909. Additionally, on January 9, the Board was made aware of car break-ins on Lennox (occurring on January 8) and Lakewood Estates. Approximately 10-12 cars were broke in— almost all were unlocked and items were stolen from the vehicles. On January 12, a resident on Yellowstone Drive reported that his truck had been stolen out of his driveway at approximately 4:00 that morning. The night before (January 11) the same resident’s cars had been rifled through. The thief returned the next night to steal the truck. The police caught up with the thief after he crashed the vehicle but he was not apprehended as he fled the scene on foot. This increase in car thefts and car break-ins in the area has seemingly not decreased in nearly a month. Please remember to lock your cars at night. Remove anything of value from the vehicle and from eyesight in the vehicle. And, above all else, stay vigilant!

2014 Homeowner Maintenance Dues

Maintenance dues are a covenant protected mandate and legal obligation for all Park Timbers homeowners. If you have not yet paid your 2014 Homeowners Maintenance Dues, payment must be made before June 30, 2014 to avoid the assessment of a late fee and filing of a lawsuit to collect the dues. The Board has authorized lawsuits be filed in July against any homeowner who is not current and paid in full. Dues are $120 if paid on or before June 30, 2014. On July 1, 2014, the fee for 2014 dues increases to $150 and after suit is filed the delinquent homeowner is responsible for $150, plus filing fees and costs, which generally range from $300 to $400.

Payments should be made out to PTHA and mailed to: Park Timbers Homeowners Association P.O. Box 6552 , LA 70174-6552

If you have any questions regarding the status of your account, please contact the Treasurer, Wade Ponthier.

6 A Luminous Christmas Eve

Once again, our neighborhood was beautifully lit with sidewalk luminaries on Christmas Eve. This effort is a revival of a Park Timbers tradition practiced long ago, when Park Timbers was a young, new subdivision. Hearing tales told fondly from “seasoned citizens” who lived here then was the inspiration to bring the tradition back. Last year, the effort was an experi- ment, spearheaded by the Park Timbers Garden Club and sponsored by the Park Timbers Homeowners Association. After glowing reviews, it was repeated again this year. Based on the repeat of favorable reviews, the tradition will live on!

Many of your neighbors generously gave of their time on Christmas Eve to prepare and set out these luminaries. A hardy and heartfelt “THANKS” goes out to them. You too can help next year on this fabulous community project. If you would like to be involved in the preparations, please call or email Donna Mercer, 433-1011, [email protected] . If you are unable to help with set-up, you can still be of assistance by lighting your and your neighbors’ luminaries at the designated time and by picking up the bags the following day.

Thanks to the following “elves” for setting up this glowing spectacle:

The Barnes family The Lewis family The Pester family The Bryant family The Low family The Ponthier family The Crowder family The Mercer family The Schwehm family The Guillott family The Montero/Webster family The Ward family The LeBoef family The Moore family The Widner family The Nobre family

An additional thanks goes out to John Moore and Tim Guillot for lighting up the Park Timbers entrance garden with holiday lights, Mickey Dufour for decorations at the Lennox en- trance and Ruth Catlett for hanging wreaths at the Park Timbers entrance.

Here’s to wishing you all a wonderful new year.

If you did not receive an email about the luminaries, please provide your preferred e-mail contact to [email protected].

2013 Night Out Against Crime Gathering

The 2013 Park Timbers Homeowners Association and Lennox Boulevard Homeowners Association Night Out Against Crime gathering was a success! We hosted a multitude of homeowners, police officers, emergency personnel, government officials, and City Council members. Additionally, Chief of Police Ronal Serpas and Senator David Heitmeier attended our event later in the evening and was able to meet several of our residents.

The night was filled with laughter, food, drinks, fun and music! We were also very fortunate to have numerous sponsors who donated door prizes and food. A special thanks goes out to those Board Members and residents who donated items and helped set up – namely Tim and Maria Guilliot, Wade and Yvette Ponthier, Greg and Leslie Merritt, Kathy Low, Dwight Barnes, John Moore and Treva Ragland. A huge thank you is needed to Karen Lodrig, who served as the Night Out Against Crime Coordinator/Planner for the past several years and without whom the night would not have turned out as spectacular as it was!

We are looking forward to next year! Also, the PTHA is in need of a new resident to volunteer to lead the Night Out Against Crime planning for 2014, as Karen is no longer able to do it. If you are interested, please contact one of the Board Members!

9 The Results Are In! Holiday Door Contest Some of the old winners keep coming back, and some new winners have emerged! All were worth a drive through the neighborhood at night to enjoy these creative residents’ handiwork!

Congratulations to all, and thanks to everyone whose door brightens the holiday spirit in our fabulous neighborhood.
