Thirty-six university students are wrapping up summer internships with the 76th Software Maintenance Group. The eight- to 10-week paid internships engaged mostly computer science and engineering students and immersed them in small projects, tours across base and the SMXG’s work on aircraft, missile, jet engine and other weapons systems. It ends today. Now in its third year, the program rotates interns through the SMXG’s five squadrons to give them a chance to demonstrate their skills and abilities to each squadron, said Darla LeBlanc, SMXG electronics engineer and internship coordinator. Tinker Air Force Base’s largest engineering organization benefits by watching interns’ skills and aptitudes over time. The internships also give the growing enterprise an edge in the strong competition for top graduates, LeBlanc said. Some interns already have job offers. “We are hiring a lot of engineers in the Software Maintenance Group, and this is a way to grab those good candidates early on in their college Air Force photos by John Parker careers and grow them into Tinker Intern Michael Fleagle eyeballs the trajectory of an air cannon that fires practice golf balls at targets in a competition set up engineers,” LeBlanc said. “The by the 555th Software Maintenance Squadron in Bldg. 9001. WASHINGTON (AFNS) — Chanda D’Angelo was in a frenzy; she quickly washed all the clothes in her home, zoomed the vacuum across every floor, wiped down every surface, cleaned out the refrigerator and stove and scrubbed the windows and mirrors until they were spotless. Exhausted, she had just enough time to get her hair and nails done – everything had to be perfect for her husband’s return. The last time then-Senior Airman Chris D’Angelo, a heavy equipment operator with the 819th Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer squadron, or RED HORSE, returned from deployment, she’d experienced the fairy tale homecoming welcoming her husband back. WHAT’S PREVENTING YOU FROM GETTING A HOME LOAN?

TAKE ACTION AGAINST LENDING DISCRIMINATION. Some hurdles are expected in the race to purchase a home. But if you feel that you’ve been denied financing of a home because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or disability, or because of the racial or ethnic composition of your neighborhood, that’s against the law. Report it to HUD or your local fair housing center.

Visit hud.gov/fairhousing or call the HUD Hotline 1-800-669-9777 (English/Español)
