A new classification of our yew population Copyright Toby Hindson 2010 The function of this document is to underpin the protocols briefly described in Part I that the AYG uses to recognise Ancient, Veteran and Notable yew trees, Taxus baccata. Explained, illustrated and quantified with worked examples of methodology, here the reader can find the specifics of how the protocols have been applied, and our reasons for thinking that the application is correct. We hope that we have achieved clarity and transparency, and that those people with a need to understand the fundamentals of what we have done can find precise answers in the following material. It is important to note that yews are only put into the categories when it is clear that they belong there for a particular well argued reason. Many Ancient, Veteran and Notable yews, especially those of low girth that belong in each category will go unregistered unless researched and submitted; the classification system was deliberately designed to be flexible and expandable in order to accommodate methodologies which reveal the age of the smaller yews; we welcome additions to the protocol system which will be periodically updated.

    North York Moors National Park Authority Residential Land Survey Report 2016 Housing Provision in the North York Moors National Park Introduction Residential land surveys are undertaken on an annual basis to provide information on residential completion rates and current housing land availability within the North York Moors National Park. The information contained in the survey is used to monitor the effectiveness of housing policies and inform the Authority Report. It is also intended to provide a useful source of information for developers, house builders and other interested individuals or organisations. The information contained in the survey is derived from building completion lists from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, the North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership Public Access database and the knowledge of Officers. Whilst the Authority believes that the information contained in the survey is correct it does not guarantee its accuracy, nor does the Authority accept any liability or responsibility for any direct or indirect loss or damage or other consequences, however arising, from the use of such information supplied. The main points arising from the 2016 Residential Land Survey are: Completions are lower than last year, down by 19%. Planning permissions are lower than last year, from 74 new permissions in 2014/15 to 42 new permissions in 2015/16. The number of outstanding permissions and those permissions where building work has commenced remains relatively consistent. 23% of all completions were affordable dwellings (10 units). The Scarborough Borough part of the Park continues to provide the most completions however as developments in Helmsley start to progress, Ryedale is providing the highest number of planning permissions.

    CASTLE HOWARD MAUSOLEUM Castle Howard Estate, Ryedale, North Yorkshire The Mausoleum, by Hawksmoor, 1729-42, and modelled on the tomb of Metella, is a major feature of the Howardian Hills. Situated on a bluff east of Castle Howard. The columns were repaired with a grant in the 1980s. The entablature and bastions continue to decay. Much of the damage is due to rusting cramps. The staircase balustrade is collapsing. 304 HERITAGE AT RISK YORKSHIRE & THE HUMBER 305 Y&H HERITAGE AT RISK 2008 Of the 176 entries on the baseline 1999 Yorkshire and the Humber buildings at risk register, 91(52%) have now been removed. Although this is 6% higher than the regional average for 2008, our rate of progress is slowing. Of the five entries removed this year, only one was on the 1999 register. This is because the core of buildings remaining from the 1999 register are either scheduled monuments with no obvious use, or buildings with a problematic future that require a strategic re-think to provide a viable solution. Despite these problems, we are continuing to work with owners, local authorities, trusts and other funding bodies to try to secure the long-term future of these buildings and structures. Just over half (52%) of the regional grants budget (almost £500,000) was offered to eleven buildings at risk in the last financial year. There are four new entries this year: in North Yorkshire, St Leonard’s Church at Sand Hutton, and in West Yorkshire, Hopton Congregational Church in Mirfield,Westwood Mills at Linthwaite, and Stank Hall near Leeds.This gives a total of 122 Grade I and II* listed buildings and scheduled monuments at risk entries on the Yorkshire and the Humber register.

More than 1000 respondents gave their views on issues ranging from Council services to public events and car parking; the responses, including more than 5000 written comments, were analysed, prioritised and published in May 2018 as the Leyburn Town Plan. With reference to Richmondshire District Council’s current Local Plan calling for a large number of new houses to be built in and around Leyburn the survey solicited views on the type and tenure of houses in any new developments.
