Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) is the last day before the period that Christians call Lent. The name Shrove comes from the old word "shrive" which means to confess. On Shrove Tuesday, in the Middle Andy Rooney: *I've learned That we should be glad God Ages, people used to confess their sins so that they were doesn't give us everything we ask for.* forgiven before the season of Lent began. Shrove Tues- day is a day of celebration as well as penitence. Anyone familiar with the song about the greatest gift of unanswered prayer? Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent. Pan- cakes—thin, flat cakes made of batter and fried in a pan— are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs that were forbidden during Lent.

6 REFLECTIONS ON LIFE 5

I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People move out of the way much faster now! Happy Anniversary

Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their Russ & LaVerne Campbell Jan 5 mothers. Now they drink like their fathers.

You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.

I don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the court- room.

I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row. For all that helped I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to Make St. Mary’s the Jim this morning. Awesome in 2015!

Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We Behind the scenes haven't met yet! In front of the scenes

I don't need anger management. I need people to stop And In between the scenes, irritating me! Thank You! Old age is coming at a really bad time! See you in the pews!

When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punish- ment... now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vaca- tion!

6 NOW YOU KNOW 11

Your bladder and urinary tract What's happening Loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence) is common with aging. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, might contribute to incontinence — as can menopause, for women, and an enlarged prostate, for men. What you can do To promote bladder and urinary tract health: Go to the toilet regularly. Consider urinating on a regu- lar schedule, such as every hour. Slowly, extend the amount of time between your toilet trips. Maintain a healthy weight. If you're overweight, lose excess pounds. Don't smoke. If you smoke or use other tobacco prod- ucts, ask your doctor to help you quit. Do Kegel exercises. Tighten your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction for five seconds, and then relax for five seconds. Try it four or five times in a row. Work up to keeping the muscles contracted for 10 seconds at a time, relaxing for 10 seconds between contractions. Avoid bladder irritants. Caffeine, acidic foods, alcohol and carbonated beverages can make incontinence worse. Avoid constipation. Eat more fiber and take necessary steps to avoid constipation, which can worsen inconti- nence.
