Psychoanalysis is our newest body of theory for understanding and modifying human behavior. How strange, then, that we are still without any psychoanalytic theory of learn- ing. Psychoanalysis has a great deal to offer education and much also to learn from it. Unhappily the relation between them has been most neurotic up to now, like a marriage where both partners are aware of their mutual need but do not really understand one another and therefore cannot pull together as one.
