Calendar 2021 Barom Kagyu Chodrak Drupju Chuling Year of the Iron Ox (2148) 2021 Important Dates Message from Venerable Sonam Tenzin Rinpoche: The past Year 2020 has been extremely difficult and challenging for all living beings, not just for us, human beings but also for all the animals sharing our same living environment. Last year, our planet Earth experienced some of the most extreme natural disasters, including decimating bushfires in Australia and the US, destroying many properties and killing billions of animals; devastating floods in Indonesia; earthquakes in Turkey, China, Iran, Russia and India. And of course, there was the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic affecting everyone, all the people of the world. These disasters are very timely reminders of the Buddha’s teaching about the impermanence of our very short existence on Earth. Now, Rinpoche wholeheartedly wishes and prays for “better situation” for 2021, that is for a Safe, Happy and Healthy Year 2021, for all the Barom Kagyu supporters, all the Dharma brothers and sisters and all the students and their families and friends. May many wonderful things happen in your lives. May all your wishes in accordance with the Dharma be totally and completely fulfilled. May your dharma practice flourish and may all obstacles to your practice vanish so that you move quickly on the path to enlightenment. Finally, Venerable Sonam Tenzin Rinpoche and Venerable Lama Namsai wish to extend their “Tashi Delek” to everyone, students, supporters, families and friends, their best wishes for a very happy Tibetan New Year, the year of the Iron Ox 2148. Calendar and important practice days: In Buddhist traditions, certain days are considered especially auspicious for Dharma practices. These days can be recurrent either each (Tibetan) month or annually. The information below only serves as general guidelines to important practice dates, but it is essential to obtain instructions from a fully qualified teacher. Please, note that for this Lunar Year of 2148, the Tibetan 9th month is being repeated. 1. Buddha's Days (recurring each Tibetan month): on these days, the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied 100 times: a. 8th Day - Medicine Buddha b. 10th Day - Guru Rinpoche c. 15th Day - Amitabha Buddha d. 25th Day - Dakini e. 30th Day - Shakyamuni Buddha 2. Eclipses: On days when Solar and Lunar eclipses fall, the effects of positive and negative actions are multiplied by 10,000 times. 3. Major Buddhist Festivals (Duchen): for example, Saka Dawa Duchen, the 4th Tibetan month (from 12/05/2021 to 10/06/2021) is the most auspicious time for Dharma practice because the effects of positive actions are multiplied by Ten million times, and observance of the five basic precepts is strongly recommended. Killing of animals is not permitted and eating of black foods such as meat, is generally discouraged. • Sadhana of Mahamudra: Which Quells the Mighty Warring of the Three Lords of Materialism and Brings Realization of the Ocean of Siddhas of the Practice Lineage
chin lab edition 2012 ©“The Dharma is nobody’s property. It belongs to whoever is most interested.”Patrul Rinpoche, Words of My Perfect Teacher The Sadhana Of Mahamudra: Which Quells The Mighty Warring Of The Three Lords Of Materialism And Brings Realization Of The Ocean Of Siddhas Of The Practice Lineage This is the darkest hour of the dark ages. Disease, famine and warfare are raging like the fierce north wind. The Buddha's teaching has waned in strength. The various schools of the sangha are fighting amongst themselves with sectarian bitterness; and although the Buddha's teaching was perfectly expounded and there have been many reliable teachings since then from other great gurus, yet they pursue intellectual speculations. The sacred mantra has strayed into Pon, and the yogis of tantra are losing the insight of meditation. They spend their whole time going through villages and performing little ceremonies for material gain. On the whole, no one acts according to the highest code of discipline, meditation and wisdom. The jewel-like teaching of insight is fading day by day. The Buddha's teaching is used merely for political purposes and to draw people together socially. As a result, the blessings of spiritual energy are being lost. Even those with great devotion are beginning to lose heart. If the buddhas of the three times and the great teachers were to comment, they would surely express their disappointment. So to enable individuals to ask for their help and to renew spiritual strength, I have written this sadhana of the embodiment of all the siddhas.

Advice by Lama Zopa Rinpoche For the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Kopan Monastery, Kathmandu, Nepal March 2020 Transcribed from the video recording by Ven. Joan Nicell, Kopan Monastery, March 2020. © FPMT Inc., 2020 Lama Zopa Rinpoche's Advice for the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Introduction My most dear, most precious, most kind, wish-fulfilling ones, my fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, students and friends, everybody, At this time there is a big change. It’s a time, a very important time, of discovery, a discovery of the truth of suffering. I heard that during the First World War that there happened a kind of influenza, a disease, epidemic disease. So many millions, five million? Fifty millions people died, minimum. Fifty millions people minimum, died. That happened, but we can’t say before, a long time ago, [what happened]. Then there happened different ones at different times. Some number of years ago, SARS happened, but I think it didn’t spread much. Our Dharma center, ABC in Singapore, invited the monks who do the Most Secret Hayagriva puja in Sera Jey, our college. They invited those monks who are specialized in doing the puja, and then also Lower Tantra College [monks]. They did, I think, Tsog Kong, Most Secret Hayagriva Tsog Offering, the eXtensive one. Then they did, I think, a wrathful fire puja and then I don’t know what else, but many others. Right after that the SARS stopped. The puja was done to stop the SARS. It was sponsored by our center, FPMT center, ABC. So that happened.

  • The Actual Letter to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in English
Tenzin Namgyal After the passing away of H. H. the 16th Karmapa, the junior Secretary Tenzin Namgyal created a great deal of trouble meddling within the administration (bla brang). He associated himself with the administrations of Situ, Gyaltsap and Kongtrul then traveled secretly to Delhi, Nepal and so forth in an attempt to persuade Ashok Burman and Shamo Karpo to resign from their offices as Trustees. In punishment for this the General Secretary and main trustee Topga Rinpoche dismissed him from his post in 1985. From that year on he stayed in Kathmandu at the Thrangu monastery and didn't return to Rumtek. His wife Tsheyag is Thrangu Rinpoche's sister. Later, in 1993, once Situ had taken over by force the Rumtek monastery and all its possessions, Situ appointed him General Secretary. Although he did subsequently take in charge the office for a few years, he was not a legitimate General Secretary. He had nonetheless since Tshurphu served as secretary to the 16th Karmapa, yet at the end his situation became that of “neither fish nor fowl”. Thrangu Rinpoche Earlier in 1959, when he was unable to provide for himself, he entered the establishment (khongs) of H.H. the 16th Karmapa. He stayed and accepted the position of Khenpo. Later, in 1974, on the occasion of the opening of Tulku Urgyen's new monastery in Kathmandu, when the Gyalwa Karmapa was invited to inaugurate and bestow the empowerments of the Kagyu Ngagdzö, a permission was, at the request of Tulku Urgyen, given for Thrangu Rinpoche to be – during one year alone – the instructor of the Karika etc.
