Although the First World War was over, Germany began a new and violent chapter as an outbreak of civil war threatened to tear the country apart. The birth of the Weimar Republic, Germany’s first democratic government, did not begin smoothly as republican institutions failed to re-establish centralized political and military authority in the wake of the collapse of the imperial regime. Coupled with painful aftershocks from defeat in the Great War, the immediate postwar era had only one consistent force shaping and guiding political and cultural life: violence. -

Please provide details on what commitments the Governor has made to local governments regarding the non-federal match of local expenses. Has the Governor made any commitments to local governments to provide state funding for non-federal match local costs? If yes, provide detail on how the Governor is determining how much state funding to provide, when to provide the funding, and how the Governor is determining which counties to provide the funding to? How much is this additional state financial commitment going to cost the state over time? 2. Are counties going to be able to accept state funding in light of their TABOR limits? 3. Do counties have TABOR emergency reserves by individual county? Are counties in compliance with TABOR requirements for a reserve and can they draw down on their TABOR reserves to resolve some of their disaster emergency costs? 4. How does the FEMA process work with regard to claims being processed? Do all claims have to go through the state or are locals able to make claims directly to FEMA? How long do agencies have to submit claims after a disaster? How long does it take FEMA to respond to claims and reimburse the state or the local agency for the claims? 5. The Disaster Emergency Fund table on page 19 of the JBC staff briefing document shows $3.1 million of reimbursements for the High Park disaster event. -

PANZER LEADER by Heinz Guderian First published in 1952 FOREWORD by CAPTAIN B. H. LIDDELL HART In this book a man who has made history—on a great scale—gives us his own story of how he shaped it by means of a new idea, and how it led to an end he had not foreseen. Guderian had a tremendous impact on the course of events in our time. Without him, it is probable that Hitler would have met early frustration in his offensive efforts when he embarked on war. For in 1939-40 Germany's forces in general were not sufficient to overcome any major Power. Her opening run of victory in the Second World War was only made possible by the panzer forces that Guderian had created and trained, and by his auda¬cious leading of those forces in disregard of his superiors' caution as well as Hitler's fears. Guderian's break-through at Sedan and lightning drive to the Channel coast virtually decided the issue of the Battle of France. A year later, the drive he led into the East came close to producing the complete collapse of Russia's armies, but this time renewed hesitancy on top imposed a delay that spun out the campaign until winter intervened, and gave the Russians a breathing-space for recovery. Stalin was able to raise fresh armies and develop new arms factories to replace those that had been captured. Russia's strength went on increasing, while Germany was never again as strong as in that first campaign. Hitler's 1942 effort, though dangerous, was a more limited one than in the previous year. -

They had the military rank, uniform and insignia of a fifer, a drummer, a d trumpeteer or a bugler. d Collectively, they could be called the fifes l l & drums, the trumpets & drums, the drum & bugle corps, the corps of drums, the drum e e corps, or they could be referred to simply as i the drums in regiments of foot or the i trumpets in mounted units. f f Since the 19th century, the United States military has termed these soldier musicians e the “Field Music.” This was to distinguish e them from the non-combatant professional l l musicians of the Band of Music. The Field Music’s primary purpose was t t one of communication and command, t whether on the battlefield, in camp, in t garrison or on the march. To honor the combat importance of the Field Music, or a a drum corps, many armies would place their regimental insignia and battle honors on the b drums, drum banners and sashes of their b drum majors. The roots of martial field music go back to ancient times.
