It is very much in your own interests to do this and to understand everything that has been outlined. There are some significant changes to last year, in particular, the qualifying and race schedules. There will no longer be a qualifying session on the first Saturday evening, instead the first qualifying will now take place on Sunday afternoon for all classes for Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix Races. Moving to Qualifying Week, we will have qualifying sessions specifically for the faster bikes (ie CTT Superbike, CTT Lightweight, MGP Junior and MGP Senior machines) one evening, with qualifying sessions for the slower classes (ie CTT Senior, CTT Junior, MGP Lightweight and MGP Ultra Lightweight machines) the following evening. These sessions will alternate Monday to Thursday with Friday’s qualifying session set to include all Classes. The changes have been made to give all competitors more time on the TT Course, with less bikes on circuit at any one time, to complete some quality laps. The Manx Motor Cycle Club (MMCC) and Department for Enterprise (DfE) teams are on hand to help you right through the entry process, up to the event itself starting in August. Contact details for Ann Kinvig and Heather Fox at the Manx Motor Cycle Club and Bruce Baker at the Department for Enterprise are contained in the document and they should be your first port of call if you have any issues. That just leaves me to wish you the best of luck for your 2020 racing season and on behalf of everyone involved in the organisation of the Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix, we look forward to welcoming you to the Island in August. • Roads Long and Medium Term Plans
Highway Services - Roads Medium & Long Term priorities Updated : 19/03/21 (TC) Preface This document outlines the current road priorities across each type of road on the roads hierarchy. The roads hierarchy is available on the Department's website, and represents the relative importance of roads to the Island's network. More spend proportionally is expected on the more important routes which provide strategic routes for the Island. This is a working document that is subject to change. Any dates provided are only indicative, roads may be How do you identify future works? based on their condition and types of treatment available, and also other factors such as bus routes, racing courses and traffic volumes. Why are all the high priority works not undertaken first? Some roads may require more complex works than others. Major undertakings may require a capital bid where it is not possible to fund from the general maintenance fund. For example, roads with underlying concrete slabs that have failed require extensive reconstruction and may require a capital scheme. There may also be other considerations such as other works on the network or future schemes in the same area. Some works may require further investigation or other improvements (such as kerbing or drainage) before they can be Why is my road not on the list? We prioritise roads based on the factors identified above against the budget available. Residential roads are prioritised separately through the residential roads refurbishment programme. Why do you use other methods that do not last as long as full resurfacing? The most cost effective way to manage our road assets is through using the appropriate solution, which often includs preventative maintenance before full resurfacing is required.

  • Colin Seeley Colin Began His Career As an Apprentice with Harcourt
Speaker: Colin Seeley Colin began his career as an apprentice with Harcourt Motorcycles. By 1954 and aged just 18, Colin had branched out on his own and secured premises in Belvedere, Kent, which laid the foundations for his successful dealership and workshop. During that same year, Colin also entered his first race at Brands Hatch, riding a borrowed 500cc BSA Star Twin. 1960 saw Colin and his friend acquire a sidecar outfit based on a Manx Norton which they raced for the first time that year at Snetterton. Just one year later in 1961, Colin entered his first Grand Prix event, the Isle of Man TT this time using a Matchless G50 modified and fitted with a Canterbury racing sidecar and achieved 6th place. Colin raced in numerous competitions between 1961 and 1967 including the British and world championship sidecar competitions. Using his own design of machines achieved a first place in the 1964 Dutch TT and 2nd in the Isle of Man TT sidecar competition not to mention coming close to winning the world championships. Through the mid to late 60’s Colin concentrated more and more on the design and construction of Seeley framed racing motorcycles. By the late 60’s and into the early 70s (by which time nearly all the major motorcycle manufacturers had pulled out of Grand Prix racing) the Seeley designed frame became the first choice for the privateer racers of that era. In 1969 the Mark 3 version of the Seeley racing frame was adapted to house the Norton Commando 750 motor and by that time Colin’s designs had become so successful in competition that he deservedly earned a reputation as one of the best motorcycle frame designers in the industry.

  • Manx Place-Names: an Ulster View
37 Manx Place-Names: an Ulster View Kay Muhr In this chapter I will discuss place-name connections between Ulster and Man, beginning with the early appearances of Man in Irish tradition and its association with the mythological realm of Emain Ablach, from the 6th to the I 3th century. 1 A good introduction to the link between Ulster and Manx place-names is to look at Speed's map of Man published in 1605.2 Although the map is much later than the beginning of place-names in the Isle of Man, it does reflect those place-names already well-established 400 years before our time. Moreover the gloriously exaggerated Manx-centric view, showing the island almost filling the Irish sea between Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, also allows the map to illustrate place-names from the coasts of these lands around. As an island visible from these coasts Man has been influenced by all of them. In Ireland there are Gaelic, Norse and English names - the latter now the dominant language in new place-names, though it was not so in the past. The Gaelic names include the port towns of Knok (now Carrick-) fergus, "Fergus' hill" or "rock", the rock clearly referring to the site of the medieval castle. In 13th-century Scotland Fergus was understood as the king whose migration introduced the Gaelic language. Further south, Dundalk "fort of the small sword" includes the element dun "hill-fort", one of three fortification names common in early Irish place-names, the others being rath "ring fort" and lios "enclosure".
