His first activities with town government began in 1969 when he worked with volunteers to show the need for housing for the elderly. Barry soon after served on the Board of Health and as a coordinator for the Youth Center, at the same time serving as a member of the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical School Committee. In 1972 he became a member of the North Middlesex School Committee. In the 1990’s Barry served on the Board of Selectmen and was chairman in 1996 and 1999. He represented Pepperell on the Middlesex County Selectmen’s Association and as President of this association. In 2003, he became a member of the Council on Aging Board and Friends of the Seniors. Barry worked tirelessly as Chair of the Friends Fund Raising Committee to raise $ 150,000 for furnishing the Senior Center. Equally dedicated to scouting as he was to town government, Barry served Pack 41 and held numerous offices in the Nashua Valley Council Executive Board. He extended his fund raising efforts to the Friends of Scouting and helped to secure sustainability in the finances of the Council. Barry received a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1995 recognizing his successful effort to save the Pepperell Paper Mill and 104 jobs. The citizens of Pepperell recognize and thank Barry for the loyalty and support he has given to this community. George Ux moved to Pepperell with his wife, Joan, to whom he has been married since 1955, in 1958, and raised his three sons, Kenneth, Russell and Alan here. Involved in Scouts since 1960, he served as Cubmaster and Committee Chairman with Pack 41, Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman and Committee member with Troop 26 and Nashua Valley Rountable Commissioner. He received the Scout Training Award and District Award of Merit by the Nashua Valley Council. He received congratulations for 60 years of service from the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1970, George was nominated and received the Young Man of America Award, presented by the Pepperell Jaycees, for Community Service. He was honored by the Pepperell Grant in 1995 for Community service. He was one of nine recipients to receive the Extraordinary Service Award presented by Nashoba Publishing in 2007. He served as an Auxiliary Officer, Special Police Officer, Police Photographer and is presently the Town’s Emergency Management Director, serving since 1966. George spent 40 years as a pressman at Courier Corporation in Westford, and retired from the Town of Pepperell as Cemetery Superintendent in 2000. George epitomizes volunteerism, doing so much for the town will very little formal recognition, and is a credit to the community. The citizens of Pepperell recognize and thank George for the loyalty and support he has given to this community. 1 STATE AND NATIONAL OFFICIALS United States Senators John F.
