  • Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry of Mafic Dikes in the Southeast Jebal-E-Barez Granitoids

The dikes clearly follow faults which trend mainly N50-70W and N20-40W. Their thicknesses vary from 1 cm to 3 m and their contacts with the host granitic rocks are sharp without any extensive contact metamorphism which may be due to the lack of magmatic fluids. The Jebal-E-Barez mafic dikes contain plagioclase, clinopyroxene and amphibole as major minerals and overall show porphyritic texture, but intergranular, ophitic and subophitic textures are also visible. The amphiboles are classified mainly as paragasite and tschermakite. These are magmatic, as indicated by Si content of the studied mafic dikes. Based on Al-in-hornblende geothermobarometry, average crystallization pressures are estimated from 5.25 to 7.07 kbar and temperatures from 867 to 872 °C.

Methods: This study was conducted on neonates who were born from March 21, 2006 to March 20, 2011 and had undergone the congenital hypothyroidism (CH) screening program in counties affiliated to the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. CH was diagnosed in 958 patients who treated with levothyroxine. The incidence rates of permanent and temporary congenital hypothyroidism in Isfahan province were calculated and their distribution was shown on the map. The space maps were drawn using the ArcGIS software version 9.3. Results: Based on the data obtained from the screening program, the average incidence of congenital hypothyroidism in the province during the period of 2006–2011 was 2.40 infants per 1000 live births (including both PCH and TCH). The most common occurrence was in Ardestan County (10:1000) and the lowest overall incidence was observed in the Fereydounshahr county (1.39:1000). The incidence of PCH in the counties of Ardestan and Golpayegan had the highest rate in all years of study; and the greatest number of TCH cases in the five years were observed in Nain, Natanz, Khansar and Chadegan counties.

  • Petrology of Eocene Volcanic Rocks in NE of Ordib (NE of Isfahan Province)
Archive of SID Vol. 17, No. 4, Winter 1388/2010 Petrology of Eocene volcanic rocks in NE of Ordib (NE of Isfahan Province) Gh. Torabi*, N. Shirdashtzadeh Department of Geology, Faculty of Scinces University of Isfahan (Received: 20/2/2009, in revised form: 9/6/2009) Abstract: Eocene volcanic rocks in NE of Ordib, have a very good exposures near and along the Turkmeni-Ordib fault. These rocks, that are situated in the inner part of the Central Iran and margin of the Yazd block, comprise trachyte, trachy-andesite and basaltic trachy-andesite. Trachy-andesite is the pervasive rock unit. Rock forming minerals of these rocks are chloritized olivine, plagioclase, pyroxene, mica, amphibole, K-feldspar, quartz, ilmenite, magnetite and calcite. The most important mineralogical characteristics of the studied trachy-andesites are wide range of minerals in one rock sample, including two types of clinopyroxene, mica, plagioclase, sanidine, formation of reactionic clinopyroxene and calcite around the quartz, and oscillatory zoning of feldspars and amphiboles. Chemistry of clinopyroxenes and biotites with whole rock geochemical analyses, reveal that these rocks are similar to the continental volcanic arc rocks. Petrography and mineral chemistry demonstrate the magma mixing occurrence in formation of these rocks. Odontobuthus doriae Thorell 1876 (Arachnida: Scorpi- onida: Buthidae) is a scorpion of medical importance and therefore its geographical distribution in Isfahan Province has been studied. Methods: This descriptive cross–sectional study was designed between Mar and Jun in 2012 and 2013 in Province of Isfahan, central Iran. Overall, 164 O. doriae scorpions were collected from their natural habitat by identifying the dug burrows. This arthropod’s burrows were identified based on the presence of tumuli, particularly between May and Jun at the sloping foothills of pristine embankments. The sampling data was categorized and compared. Results: The relative frequency of collected O. doriae for the counties was Mobarakeh (13.5%), Shahinshahre (11.5%), Borkhar (9%), Shahreza (7.5%), Kashan (7.5%), Naeen (6%), Natanz (5.5%), Isfahan (4.8%), Najafabad (4.8%), Aran and Bidgol (4.8%), Dehaghan (4.8%), Flavarjan (3.7%), Khomeinishahr (3.7%), Tiran (3.7%), Gol- payegan (3.7%), Ardestan (3.7%) and Lenjan (2.5%). No O. doriae was collected from other counties of the province.

This research describes the challenges of Isfahan ecotourism and explores the opportunities in this city. The research is a developing research. Data gathered through interviews, field work, using of different web sites, magazines, e-books, theses and scientific reports. This research is worked on the basis of a model and described that there must be a governmental strategic plan and framework on the basis of this model. The research is a qualitative and descriptive. Data gathered through archival records and interviews and direct observation. From conducting this research some important findings explored. It seems that as a result of findings, Isfahan province enjoys appropriate situations and advantages for developing ecotourism but they have not been introduced in previous years in a proper manner and there is not desired spatial arrangement and planning and linkage between them. Performed actions are limited to preservation and maintenance and restoration of a few historical constructions in Isfahan.
