Senator-Elect Daniel K. Inouye ,

Dear Dan:

Myself and many others here were very pleased that you and Sparky Matsunaga and Tom Gill thought that we were of sufficient impor tance to take time out from your busy schedule and many important activities to obtain an on-the-spot picture of Guam’s disaster. We are indeed grateful for this and wish to extend our sincere thanks.

Dan, a call was received by Speaker Won Pat yesterday from a friend in Washington, The rumor is very heavy that Manuel Guerrero will receive the appointment for Governor. This is, I feel, due to the return to Washington of several officials sent out here to report and establish aid for the disaster. Most of their dealings were with Manuel Guerrero and they doubtless reported favorably on his conduct with them.

I feel strongly, along with many others, that the appointment of Speaker Won Pat as Governor of Guam would be a great step forward toward the future development and re-building of Guam. Mr. Won Pat has served in the Legislature since 1936 and in addition to being well qualified in Governmental affairs, he has earned the gratitude of his constituents with his untiring efforts in Washington, pro moting legislation for the betterment of this Territory,

It is my understanding that Secretary Udall or Assistant Secretary John Carver will be coming to Guam within the next ten days. Possibly, you will meet them in Honolulu on their way through. I am asking your further help in promoting Mr. Won Pat’s cause, and requesting the elistment of aid from Congressmen Elect and ,

Dear Hr. Conway:

He want to thank you and your committee for your valuable contribution to our success in the recent elections in Hawaii.

He deliberately kept the news of our Guam organization out of the newspapers until the closing days of the campaign so that our opponent would not set up a similar groi^p to work in his behalf.

Be assured that your efforts will not be forgotten.

Hay we extend our sincerest appreciation on behalf of myself, my wife, Maggie, and the entire membership of the campaign committee in Hawaii.

PERSONAL

Mr. Earl C. Conway Agana, Guam

Dear Mr. Conway:

I am writing this letter to you in my capacity as chairman of Dan Inouye's campaign committee.

I was very interested and pleased this past week to receive a couple of photographs of the committee which you have organized for Dan on Guam.

At the proper time we would like to publicize the existence of your committee and for that purpose we need a better picture than the one which was delivered to us. The picture we have is a little faded and fuzzy and doesn’t have a clear contrast usually required for news purposes. If you could provide such a picture and also send us the negative, I think we could make good use of it sometime later in the campaign.

The main reason we are not publicizing the existence of your committee now is that we assume that our opposition has no such committee at work in your area. If we are Incorrect it would be helpful to know.

Obviously, we do not want to encourage the opposition to get busy in competition with you, if they are not already at work on Guam.

We do appreciate your interest, however, and will be pleasedto send you any supplies which you may need in addition to those you may already have. We now have brochures, busper stickers, posters, etc., in ample supply and I am sure we can take care of yourneeds by air mail as soon as we know what you may require.

Thanks again for your interest.

Sincerely, ElWClinEMH.HlllllttllU.ESBM

Dear B illt

Many thanks fo r your le tte r o f September 27th.

I am sorry that the picture you received was so poor. I am trying again and w ill know how they turn out on monday, October 8th, Those that do finishing work here do not turn out good.I work at a ll. I f the next ones developed are not good, I w ill send, you the negatives and I am sure that you can get a better job done in Honolulu,

We do not need, any additional supplies. We origi nally received a good supply o f Inouye buttons and other supplies including sufficient literature. I have had, addional registration applications mimeo- graped here, so this is no problem.

There is not much a ctivity here on the opposition. Annabelle Nobriga (Mrs. Albert) is working for Kealoha and, Dillingham but is having very l i t t l e success. We have created lots o f enthusiasm andare happy with our progress. We hope to be ab le to send you help in a monetary way within the next ten days.

Keep the faith
