LONGY’S EDWARD M. PICKMAN CONCERT HALL Wayman Chin celebrates 25 years on the Longy faculty—years of joy and deep inspiration that he likens to Emerson’s call to “live in the sunshine, swim the sea, and drink the wild air’s salubrity.” The program includes Mozart’s Sonata for Piano and Violin in C Major, K. 296 (the first piece Chin performed as a Longy faculty member); a new work for solo piano by faculty composer Paul Brust; and Schumann’s Piano Quintet, Op. 44. On this evening, Dean Chin will be joined by faculty colleagues: violinists Jesse Mills and Solomiya Ivakhiv, violist Sean Wang, and cellist Ole Akahoshi.

Longy’s cabaret-style OktoberFest reveals both the beauty and the heartbreak of things that tumble and fall. We might be falling from or falling to pieces, but you'll want to join us for an evening of sass, wit, and satire that will have you falling out of your chair (with delight).

Please note that the same program will be presented both evenings.

4 | FRIDAY • 10.18.2019 • 8:00PM FLOW No one ever steps in the same river twice, but you'll be swept away by both Smetana’s Czech Moldau—his own arrangement for four hands—and Mason Bates’ evocation of Colorado's Red River—for piano trio plus clarinet and tape. These river-themed works are paired with a work of Lutosławski, Wasserklavier by Berio, and a much-loved trio by Smetana. | Guest Artists: IGOR BEGELMAN, clarinet; WAYMAN CHIN, piano

One can hear in this music Daniel's struggle for breath, as well as the composer's anguish as she remembers and honors his life. | Guest Artist: MASUMI ROSTAD, viola

LONGY’S EDWARD M. PICKMAN CONCERT HALL Nathan Meltzer, violin; Jessica Xylina Osborne, piano Longy welcomes home the long-lost Ames-Totenberg Stradivarius forty years after its shocking theft from Roman Totenberg’s office in Zabriskie House.
