A vision in white marble, emerging from the centre of Lake Pichola on its own 4 acre island in Udaipur, the 5 star Taj Lake Palace was originally built under the direc on of a former Maharaja. Constructed to face east to allow inhabitants to pray to the Hindu sun god at the crack of dawn, the palace became a summer resort for rulers over the following years. Today, the hotel is considered to be one of the most roman c hotels in the world and has featured in many fi lms and television programmes, including James Bond’s Octopussy where it was the secluded lair of the eponymous Bond Girl.
