TIGER ARMY 21. März 2017 Stuttgart Im Wizemann Nach neun Jahren Album-Abstinenz meldete sich Nick 13 mit seiner TIGER ARMY vor wenigen Wochen - pünktlich zum 20jährigen Bandbestehen - zurück und erntete neben einer begeisterten Fanbasis auch Kritikerlob aus unterschiedlichsten Ecken. Auf ihrem fünften Longplayer "V •••–" baut die Band aus L.A. wieder einmalige Brücken zwischen Roy Orbison und frühen Misfits und verneigt sich eindrucksvoll vor dem Rock und Pop der frühen 60er Jahre. Wieder gelingt es dem charismatischen Bandkopf, vollkommen staubfreie Melodien zu entfalten und die Songs mit seiner charakteristischen Ausnahme-Stimme zu veredeln. Die letzte große Headliner-Tournee der Band datiert (wie das Vorgängeralbum) aus dem Jahr 2007 - eine lange Zeit, aber das Echo ihrer Shows hallt noch immer nach: Die loyalen Fans der Band stellen aktuell in den USA unter Beweis, dass eigenständige Bands wie TIGER ARMY nicht an Reiz verlieren. Dies ist angesichts absoluter Genre-Klassiker wie "II: The Power Of Moonlite" und ganzen Särgen voller Hits (man denke an "Outlaw Heart", "Incorporeal", "Cupid's Victim", "Rose Of The Devil's Garden", oder "Forever Fades Away") auch wenig verwunderlich. Nicht umsonst spülten Songs wie diese die Band auf gemeinsame Touren mit u.a. Social Distortion und Morrissey. Die gute Nachricht: Endlich darf man sich auch hierzulande wieder auf altbewährte Rocker und neue Singles wie "Prisoner Of The Night" freuen, denn das kalifornische Trio besteigt im Herbst auch unsere Bühnen. IAFOR Journal of Cultural Studies Volume 5 – Issue 1 – Spring 2020 Psychobilly Psychosis and the Garage Disease in Athens Michael Tsangaris, University of Piraeus, Greece Konstantina Agrafioti, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece Abstract The complexity and the bizarre nature of Psychobilly as a music genre and as a music collectivity make it very convenient for reconsidering several views in relation to subcultures, neo-tribes and scenes. More specifically, the case of Greek Psychobilly can categorically present how subcultural trends can be disseminated across gender, social classes and national borders. This study aims to trace historically the scene of Psychobilly in Athens based on typical ethnographic research and analytic autoethnography. The research question is: Which are the necessary elements that can determine the existence of a local music scene? Supported by semi-structured interviews, the study examines how individuals related to the Psychobilly subculture comprehend what constitutes the Greek Psychobilly scene. Although it can be questionable whether there ever was a Psychobilly scene in Athens, there were always small circles in existence into which people drifted and stayed for quite a while, constituting the pure core of the Greek Psychobilly subculture. Previous research by academics on the effect of the Internet on popular music has centered on the impact of Napster and peer-to-peer networks on the distribution of recordings (Alexander, 2002; Ayres & Williams, 2004; Bishop, 2004; Daniel & Klimis, 1999; Fox, 2004; Mardesich, 1999; & Oberholzer & Strumpf, 2004). However, unexamined is the influence of the Internet on a specific music subculture, punk.
