Hair Styles The Basics !
Before we get started, let’s review a few basic principles. ! Get a Fresh Cut - Most guys wait for too long to get a haircut. I recommend to most men with short hair (under 2 inches) to get a new cut every 3 - 4 weeks — max! For longer hair, it’s every 4 - 6 weeks, and those bold enough to sport a Michael Bolton haircut (circa 1980) should visit their salon every 8 weeks. ! The style- We’ll talk about this in further details. You know your hair texture and length. Utilize Google (under “images”) to ind celebrities with similar hair and get ideas from the different haircut that they sport. ! The cut- Find a hairstylist that you love by asking for referrals. Make sure the stylist also teaches you how to style after the cut. ! The product - less is more! Also, use the right product by asking your stylist for recommendations of product(s) such as Pete and Pedro ! Practice and play- Practice and play in different conditions. ! Cleaning- don't over wash! Every other day or even every three days depending on how greasy your hair is. ! Conditioning- at least once a week, apply conditioner and let sit in order to close the cuticle for hair health, luster, and shine. ! Healthy diet- take care of yourself from the inside out to have healthy hair and nails ! Scalp- take care of the dandruff with Neutrogena T-Gel ! !
Don't be afraid of change- even slight variations in styling can breath new life into your look ! Choosing a Hair Style Based on Your Height
! ! Let’s start with a great before-and-after story. Mustafa, pictured above, wasn't digging his long luscious locks. ! He's 5' 6" and is concerned that his big hair wasn't working for his height. He was also looking for a professional look that is also fun and playful. So he purchased a Virtual Grooming consultation with me. Mustafa has amazing hair. I helped him combine two styles with a modi ied pompadour pulled to the side slightly. The result is a perfect new style for Mustafa. ! If you’re short, I would advise you, if you want to maximize the visual illusion of your presence, to steer away from wide hair styles. ! A hair style with a bit of lift or height is a great way to give you a visual inch or two as long as the sides and back are tighter. !
! If you are short with big hair, tighten it up on the sides and going with a little bit of a different style. ! If you are tall, pay attention face shape. For all heights, take into consideration of lifestyle.
! ! Hair Styles and! Face Shapes ! Finding your perfect hairstyle can be challenging. ! I wish it were as simple as buying a pair of shoes, but for most of us, inding a hairstyle that truly compliments our individuality is a matter of trial and error. There are so many considerations to factor into the compatibility of head and hair that the search is often a long and tedious one. ! !
Most of us realize the style limitations our hair’s quality and texture present; however, choosing an appropriate hairstyle that brings out our best goes beyond it being straight or curly, coarse or ine. Actually, the most lattering haircuts are contingent on face shape more than anything else. ! Knowing your face shape and how to accentuate your greatest features, while downplaying the rest, is the irst place to start when looking for your perfect style. ! Choosing a style that complements your face shape proves more successful than expecting your face to suit a hairstyle simply because you like it. Hair type is a huge consideration when selecting a suitable style, but facial shape is of greater importance because it is the foundation on which all else is built. And don’t worry about there being only one style per face shape – there are quite a few. ! Let’s take a look at the professional recommendations for each of the seven face shapes. !
Face Shapes & Complementary Hair Styles ! Round Face ! Go for a style that offers dimension and balance. ! Avoid any style that emphasizes the round, full shape for they make the face appear rounder. ! An example is an Afro or head of curls that frame the face. Instead, keep the sides tight and the top higher, which will offset the roundness and add balance. Square hairstyles are a great choice, as are off-center parts and longer side swept bangs that break the fullness. By the way, round does not mean fat – it’s just the shape. ! Go for hair styles that are angular and offer dimension (stay away from big, rounded hair styles) ! !
