Moving Forward Moving Forward A Collection of Essays by Florida’s Adult Learners Copyright 2017 Florida Literacy Coalition, Inc. Established in 1985, the Florida Literacy Coalition (FLC) promotes, supports, and advocates for the effective delivery of quality adult and family literacy services in the state of Florida. As a statewide umbrella literacy organization and the host of Florida’s Adult and Family Literacy Resource Center, FLC provides a range of services to support more than 300 adult education, literacy, and family literacy providers throughout Florida. Special emphasis is placed on assisting community-based literacy organizations with their training and program development needs. Florida’s Adult and Family Literacy Resource Center 235 Maitland Ave. S, Suite 102 Maitland, FL 32751 Phone: (407) 246-7110 Fax: (407) 246-7104 Florida Literacy Hotline 1 (800) 237-5113 This book is dedicated to Florida’s adult learners and the teachers, tutors, managers, and programs that support them. Thanks to all of the adult learners who contributed to this book. Thanks to the following individuals for reviewing and editing the essays: Karina Jimenez (Editor) Nicole Caban Heather Hepler Surrency Wesley Pratt Greg Smith Ethan Smith Special thanks to Corey Alexander for designing the essay book cover. This book was made possible through a grant from the Florida Department of Education, Division of Career and Adult Education. Preface This book was designed to give adult learners the opportunity to build confidence while also improving their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Adult learners enrolled in adult education, ESOL, literacy, and family literacy programs throughout Florida were encouraged to submit essays. The imagination and creativity of these students shines through in their writing, reflecting a range of perspectives and life experiences that are as diverse as the authors themselves. As always, the editorial committee has chosen to minimize the editing of submissions, and therefore entries in the book appear largely as they were received. The views expressed in this publication do not necessarily reflect the views of the Florida Literacy Coalition or any other affiliated organization. We congratulate the authors who contributed to this year’s publication and hope you enjoy reading and learning about their journeys. • The Empath Archetypes Is Not About Labeling Or Separating
Introduction The light-bearing empath (AKA YOU) is waking up to your GREAT power on this planet at this time. There is a dictionary definition of an empath (usually related to science fiction): “A person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual.” Yet this is now becoming science fact, there is credible scientific evidence of empaths. The brain has created a neural physiology that is an evolved from intuition. This has created a range of biological and psychological differences between empaths and other individuals who are not as “sensitive.” Empaths are highly attuned to other people's moods, good and bad. They feel everything, sometimes to an extreme. They take on negativity such as anger or anxiety, which can be exhausting for them. They are often called “too sensitive” and “overly emotional.” Yet, we are moving into a time where the need to explain; “I’m overly sensitive,” is now over. Instead you get to stand in your sensitivity as a superpower, you get to claim your abilities as something that can change the world. To support those sensitives around the globe, Anita Moorjani has channeled through from the other side, different archetypes of empaths. And calling these empaths “light bearers” of the world. Anita has identified different archetypes of empaths; there are empaths who like the limelight and those who don't mind being in the limelight. There are empaths who shy away, who renounce the world and they're more hermit-like. There are empaths who have more masculine traits, and empaths who have more feminine traits.

  • The Walt Disney Company: a Corporate Strategy Analysis
Walt Disney Company: A Corporate Strategy Analysis Carlos Carillo Jeremy Crumley Kendree ftieringer Jeffrey S. Harrison . The Walt Disney Company: A Corporate Strategy Analysis November 2012 "Walt was never afraid to dream. That song from Pinocchio, 'When You Wish Upon a Star,' is the perfect summary of Walt's approach to life: dream big dreams, even hopelessly impossible dreams, because they really can come true. Sure, it takes work, focus and perseverance. But anything is possible. Walt proved it with the impossible things he accomplished."1 It is well documented that Walt Disney had big dreams and made several large gambles to propel his visions. From the creation of Steamboat Willie in 1928 to the first color feature film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” in 1937, and the creation of Disneyland in Anaheim, CA during the 1950’s, Disney risked his personal assets as well as his studio to build a reality from his dreams. While Walt Disney passed away in the mid 1960’s, his quote, “If you can dream it, you can do it,”2 still resonates in the corporate world and operations of The Walt Disney Company. COMPANY HISTORY The Walt Disney Company (“Disney”) originated with its animated characters and expanded into other adjacent businesses with the goal of bringing happiness to families via several different, but related avenues. In October 1923, Walter (“Walt”) and Roy Disney established the Disney Brothers Studio and began creating animated films that would eventually be the foundation of Disney3. In 1937, Disney created Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This film is the only animated film to rank in the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 greatest American Films of all time.4 In 1955, Disney opened its first theme park, Disneyland, in Anaheim, California, that spanned over 160 acres.
