  • Charlie Bigham's Launches First Puddings Range
⏲ 03 February 2020, 12:42 (GMT) Charlie Bigham’s launches first puddings range Charlie Bigham’s, creator of over 50 delicious savoury dishes, is set to launch its first range of ready-to-bake puddings called Proper Puds. Available exclusively in selected Waitrose stores from 5 February, Charlie Bigham’s Sticky Toffee Pudding, Sticky Ginger Pudding, Chocolate Fondant, Bread & Butter Pudding and Cherry Bakewell Pudding will all appear in the brand’s iconic wooden trays (RRP £5.50 for a 2-4 person serving). These first five much-loved classics are made with the choice ingredients found in a discerning baker’s pantry – Belgian chocolate shards, sherry-soaked raisins, cinnamon sugar and sweet cherry compote. With Bigham’s taking care of the prep – measuring, mixing, whisking and melting – the result is a freshly-baked pudding in just 15-20 minutes. Proper Puds are a natural next step for Charlie Bigham’s, whose current range of over 50 dishes, inspired by UK classics and world flavours, are renowned for meticulous ingredient selection, home-style recipes and small-batch cooking. In 2019, Bigham’s revenue grew by 18% and with the opening of a purpose-built bakery at its London kitchen in October, Proper Puds will be the brand’s most significant launch of recent years. Proper Puds will be supported by in-store POS, PR and social activity from February onwards. A Proper Puds version of Charlie Bigham’s current advertising campaign, ‘Only Delicious Will Do’, has been developed by long-time creative partners, Creature. Charlie Bigham, company founder, says: “After receiving hundreds of customer requests for puddings, we realised the scale of consumer appetite for traditional sweet dishes, which not everyone has the time or skills to make just as they should be.

  • Bakewell History Walk
www.derbysheritagewalks.com [email protected] Twitter: @DerbysWalks Facebook: derbyshireheritagewalks Bakewell History Walk Distance: 1.5 miles. Time: 1 to 2 hours (not including museum visits). Difficulty: Easy urban – Some hills, including one steep descent. Some chance of mud. Maps: None, or Bakewell town plan. Toilets: On Granby Road, next to Boots. The town of Bakewell is notable for many reasons. It is the only town to be found within the boundaries of the Peak District National Park. It is home to the headquarters of the National Park and to the annual Bakewell Show. And, most famously, it is where the world-famous Bakewell Pudding was created. This short walk around town is designed to show you some of the best and most interesting of the many historic buildings to be found in the town of Bakewell. This walk should be suitable for all and, with a few slight changes as noted in italics below, is fully wheelchair-accessible. Begin outside the Bakewell Tourist Information Centre in the old 17 th -century Market Hall. After taking a few minutes to appreciate this fine building, turn right to head towards the bridge over the river, walking against the flow of the traffic on the one-way street. At the start of the bridge, take the path to the right down to the river. This gives you the ideal viewpoint to admire one of the most historic structures in the town. With its five pointed arches crossing the River Wye, Bakewell Bridge is a very ancient structure dating back to circa 1300.

  • A Brief History by WILL SWALES Welcome
a brief history BY WILL SWALES welcome Welcome to a brief history of The Rutland Arms Hotel, Bakewell. During the late spring and early summer of 2016 we had the good fortune to be able to revitalise and refurbish one of our fabulous sister inns, The King’s Head in Richmond, North Yorkshire. During the planning stage of this project we started to look hard at the building and its many historical attributes, at how some parts of the building had been added during its 300 years of existence. And whilst contemplating the small changes and additions we wanted to make, it dawned on me that we will only be its custodians for a generation or two at most. I can’t foretell who will follow but started thinking about who had been its keepers in the past. Therefore, we asked a good friend if he would research The King’s Head and try to separate the fact from the fable; what’s true and what has been elaborated during the storytelling process over the years. Will Swales made such a good job of The King’s Head that we then asked him to complete the same task for The Rutland Arms Hotel. What follows is that research. We think it’s as accurate as can be, but naturally there are many gaps and we would welcome any additional information. I hope you enjoy this small booklet and the hospitality and service we provide within The Rutland Arms Hotel. Please feel free to take this copy with you. Team regional foods and cheeses with local beers and ciders for a truly distinctive offering. And remember to consider regionalising your children’s menu too. Think beyond the chicken nugget! The following menus are intended to give you some ideas for making your menu regionally distinct. This may be by including traditional dishes on your menu (and some are mentioned to get you going) or by increasing the emphasis of provenance on your existing menu. Why not mention the breed of sheep used for your roast lamb or the farm on which it was raised? What about mentioning the variety of apple you use or the name of your cheese producer? Specifying provenance on your menu will help make it more distinctive. Did you know £34 billion each year is now being spent on eating out in the UK?
