I think if "iCarly" taught us anything, it's to "see the brighter side of any situation" and that's exactly what I plan to do with this reboot. While "iCarly" was funny then and still is now, it was also filled with important lessons. Maybe the show isn't meant to be that deep on the surface, but underneath the pranks and the laugh track are real lessons to be learned. But if your burger had no beef in the middle, you'd be left with two dry pieces of bread. Your thesis statement could read: "Information technology has revolutionized the way we work. The final sentences of your introduction, then, would be a mini-outline of what your essay will cover. Don't use an outline form, but explain briefly all the key points you intend to discuss in narrative form. These would include well-researched and logical points that support your thesis. Bellevue explains that your supporting paragraphs should provide rich, vivid imagery, or logical and specific supporting details, depending on your topic. A perfect supporting paragraph for the technology topic, discussed previously, could draw on current events. In its Jan. The younger, hipper, agency, by contrast, had worked with Facebook Inc. You could use this news story to illustrate how technology—and a need for workers who understand it and are able to use it—is taking over the world and is changing entire industries. Just as a hamburger needs a durable bottom bun to contain all the ingredients inside, your essay needs a strong conclusion to support and buttress your points. The closing arguments section of a trial takes place when the prosecution attempts to strengthen the evidence she presented to the jury. Even though the prosecutor likely provided solid and compelling arguments and evidence during the trial, it isn't until the closing arguments that she ties it all together. In the same way, you'll restate your main points in the conclusion in reverse order of how you listed them in your introduction. Some sources call this an upside-down triangle: The intro was a triangle that was right-side up, where you started with a short, razor sharp point—your hook—which then fanned out slightly to your topic sentence and broadened further with your mini-outline. The conclusion, by contrast, is an upside-down triangle that starts by broadly reviewing the evidence—the points you made in your supporting paragraphs—and then narrows to your topic sentence and a restatement of your hook. In this way, you've logically explained your points, restated your main idea, and left readers with a zinger that hopefully convinces them of your point of view. Bullock, Richard. This gives you a chance to spot problems in your ideas before you spend time writing out the paragraphs. Choose a Writing Method That Feels Comfortable You might have to type your essay before turning it in, but that doesn't mean you have to write it that way. Some people find it easy to write out their ideas by hand. Others prefer typing in a word processor where they can erase and rewrite as needed. Find the one that works best for you and stick with it. View It as a Conversation Writing is a form of communication, so think of your essay as a conversation between you and the reader. Think about your response to the source material and the topic. Decide what you want to tell the reader about the topic. Then, stay focused on your response as you write. Think of how you introduce two people to each other. You share the details you think they will find most interesting. Do this in your essay by stating what it's about and then telling readers what the issue is. Explain What Needs to be Explained Sometimes you have to explain concepts or define words to help the reader understand your viewpoint. You are commenting using your Facebook account. 15 Tips to Help You Write a Stellar Essay

It was my junior year of high school, on the day of prom. I went to the makeup studio in my ultra-suburban town, sat down, got my face beat for about 20 minutes, walked out, and promptly began to cry. Every time I tell people that I don't wear makeup, I'm met with raised brows, slight gasps, drawn-out exclamations of " Whaaat? My team here at R29 — and pretty much the entire editorial staff — knows not to come to me for foundation suggestions, mascara hacks, or eyeliner pointers. I've been dubbed the no-makeup, no- really- no-makeup beauty-team member. It's blasphemous, I'm aware. This is not to say there weren't snippets in my life when I experimented with the occasional product. I owned a lip gloss in every frosted pink shade in middle school. I dabbled with eyeliner in high school. When YouTube became popular, I even embarked on a mission to nail the ever-tricky smoky eye to no avail. But none of these phases really stuck. After a while, I came to the conclusion that buying cosmetics, looking up tutorials, and practicing and perfecting looks was more work than it was worth. For me, wearing makeup devolved from an empowering experience into an exhausting one. Makeup eventually took a backseat to styling my hair, taming my brows, and caring for my skin. But makeup doesn't make me feel as good as that extra 20 minutes of sleep does. Beyond that, I blame credit my upbringing — the family members and friends in my life — for my no-makeup approach. My mother has one distinct beauty marker: her red lips. Rain or shine, 11 a. Her best friend once said that if she didn't know better, it would seem like my mom woke up with red lipstick on. To that, my mother replied: "Well, I do, if I don't remove it. No foundation, blush, mascara, nada. Before sitting down to write this piece, I polled my bare-faced friends about their reasons for keeping things minimal. Their answers ranged from practical "because it's an expensive habit to keep up" , to relatable "because my mom never wore makeup, except on special occasions, and I always found her to be gorgeous" , to hopeful "because Black don't crack". It is a classic assignment because it presents an arena in which writers can demonstrate their command of language and punctuation, as well as their logic and rhetorical skills. These skills are useful not only for classroom assignments and college application essays, but even in the business world, as employees have to write memorandums and reports, which draw on the same skills. The five-paragraph essay lives up to its name, because is has five paragraphs, as follows: an introductory paragraph that includes a thesis, three body paragraphs, each which includes support and development, and one concluding paragraph. Its structure sometimes generates other names for the same essay, including three-tier essay, one-three-one, or a hamburger essay. Whether you are writing a cause-and-effect essay, a persuasive essay, an argumentative essay or a compare-and-contrast essay, you should use this same structure and the following specifics. Any introductory paragraph contains from three to five sentences and sets up the tone and structure for the whole essay. The first sentence should be a so-called hook sentence and grabs the reader. Examples of hook sentences include a quote, a joke, a rhetorical question or a shocking fact. This is the sentence that will keep your readers reading. Draw them in. The last sentence should be your thesis statement, which is the argument you are going to make in the essay. It is the sentence that contains the main point of the essay, or what you are trying to prove. It should be your strongest claim in the whole essay, telling the reader what the paper is about. You should be able to look back at it to keep your argument focused. The other sentences in this paragraph should be general information that links the first sentence and the thesis. Each of the next three paragraphs follows the same general structure of the introductory paragraph. That is, they have one introduction sentence, evidence and arguments in three to five sentences, and a conclusion. Each one of them should define and defend your thesis sentence in the introduction. The first body paragraph should be dedicated to proving your most powerful point. The second body paragraph can contain your weakest point, because the third body paragraph can, and should, support another strong argument. Your concluding paragraph is important, and can be difficult. Ideally, you can begin by restating your thesis. Then you can recall or restate all three to five of your supporting arguments. You should summarize each main point.
