LEST WE FORGET WESTERN AUSTRALIAN MILITARY ROLLS OF HONOUR WA STATE MEMORIAL, KINGS PARK WORLD WAR I ARMY ROLL OF HONOUR The names shown on this list are Soldiers of the Australian Army recorded in the Undercroft of the Western Australian State War Memorial located in King’s Park, Perth. It is the list of Soldiers who joined the Army from Western Australia and was compiled in the late 1920s to mark the opening of the Memorial in 1929. The names are inscribed on marble tablets and the order shown beginning at and then to the left of the entrance to the Undercroft. Details on the Memorial show Unit lists and, usually in alphabetic order, family names and initials. Aggregated information from the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the National Archives of Australia records have been used to further identify Soldiers by full first names and service numbers (where applicable). While the list shows Soldiers mainly who enlisted in Western Australia, some Soldiers who enlisted outside the State have been included as their families resided in WA. The place of birth of all Soldiers is shown in brackets. Well less than half of the Soldiers were born in Western Australia and this reflects the high level of inwards migration known as the Gold Rush that occurred following the discovery of that mineral in the mid-1890s at Coolgardie and then Kalgoorlie. This index of places of birth is shown at the end of the document. Member’s names shown in blue are not listed on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour or Commemorative Roll. A list of abbreviations is given at the end of the document.
